A quasi un decennio dall'annuncio ufficiale del gioco, Dead Island 2 riemerge dal limbo con una proposta che recupera ed evolve l'assetto ludico del capitolo d'esordio, con l'obiettivo di offrire al pubblico un'esperienza carica di sanguinario appagamento. Questo col contributo di un sistema di smembramento procedurale che segna nuovi standard sul versante della brutalità poligonale, alimentando il senso di appagamento trasmesso dal combat system. Pur manifestando qualche oscillazione qualitativa più o meno significativa, le colonne portanti del gameplay (combattimento, progressione e gestione dell'equipaggiamento) si dimostrano tutto sommato solide, ma purtroppo questa saldezza finisce per scricchiolare sotto il peso di una ripetitività fin troppo marcata. La stragrande maggioranza delle attività ricalca il medesimo modello, con giusto una manciata di variazioni che, nel quadro generale, non smuovono più di tanto il bilancio di un'esperienza sì piacevole, ma fin troppo piatta. Un discorso che coinvolge anche il percorso principale di una campagna che nella seconda parte perde mordente, e si chiude con un cliffhanger piuttosto sfacciato, che in tutta onestà lascia un po' interdetti. Malgrado le qualità dei suoi migliori ingredienti, compreso un comparto tecnico pregevole, Dead Island 2 si presenta all'appuntamento col lancio con qualche cedimento di troppo, sebbene l'esperienza sia comunque in grado di offrire ai giocatori una ventina d'ore di brutale diletto, specialmente in co-op.

Il aura fallu attendre de nombreuses années avant de pouvoir découvrir Dead Island 2. Un temps considérable qui se matérialise enfin sous la forme d’un jeu abouti et presque parfait. Il lui manque, par moment, un grain de folie (dans ses armes ou son histoire, par exemple) qui aurait pu faire la différence et rendre le jeu culte. Cela étant, il serait injuste de ne pas saluer les qualités du jeu, et notamment sa générosité, ses délires ou encore les démembrements de zombies. On attend désormais avec impatience les éventuels DLC et on espère aussi (et surtout) que les développeurs pourront aborder leurs prochains projets avec plus de quiétude pour que l’on puisse rapidement remettre les pieds dans ce Los Angeles aussi ensoleillé que mortel.

I am impressed with Dead Island 2. The first Dead Island didn’t grab me as much and it was only when I tried the demo at the recent WASD event that it piqued my interest. There is a lot to enjoy about Dead Island 2. It looks stunning graphically, the story – although surreal – is gripping enough and the skill card level progression is refreshing. The combat is the feature that feels familiar and could have been quite dull over time, but Dambuster have introduced many things (such as curveballs) to keep things interesting. Fun solo, but even more enjoyable with a few friends, this long awaited zombie slasher comes recommended.

Dredge erupted out of the left field as 2023’s most unforgettably creepy fishing simulator. Without spoiling anything, its slow dive into Lovecraftian horror intermingles with subtle elements of seabound thrillers like Jaws and Moby Dick, and yet despite its twists, its fishing and sailing mechanics are simple enough to be relaxing – just as long as you don’t stay out past dark. Its colorful graphics, intelligent story, and seafaring sound design are alluring, but calling it a management sim betrays how simple and approachable it is. Though it still may not excite anyone in search of abyssal depths, its world map, upgrade tree, and story offer more than enough interesting decisions of their own to make a 12-hour fishing expedition feel concise. At the same time, a lack of combat and meaningful customization give little weight to its excessive grinding, and these are clear opportunities for improvement on the next voyage.

Warm, inviting and pleasant, Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus And Butterfly is a wonderfully accessible and gentle graphic novel game with a beautifully well-meaning heart. Changes from its predecessor are minimal, but Hibiscus And Butterfly encourages you to discover an array of comforting drinks, while the cast of fantastical and not-so fantastical characters tell you about their life predicaments, their perils and their successes. Much like a good pick-me-up, Coffee Talk Episode 2 is as easy as you’d like but has space for you to master the fine art of being a top-tier barista in a busy bustling café. The addition of Hibiscus And Butterfly Pea brings a classiness and a radiance that will lighten your day, and there are reasons to replay the story several times through to see everything it has to show for itself. There’s still plenty of room for Coffee Talk to grow and flourish, but this sequel is well-worth diving into if you just want to take a pew, grab an eye-opener and relish in a bevvy of stories.

An exceptionally pretty slice of DLC that does nothing to address the faults of the main game but does manage to emphasise its many successes, especially the graphics.

Stray Blade è la storia di Farren, che da antropologo si dirige nelle terre perdute di Acrea e rimane intrappolato in quel continente dimenticato. Con l'aiuto di Boji un mezzo lupetto dall'aspetto coccoloso, dovrà sconfiggere i nemici che si trovano su Acrea e trovare il creatore di Boji, che pare possa liberare i due dalla maledizione del luogo. Sebbene visivamente il gioco sia ottimo, mostra il fianco nel sistema di combattimento che, con qualche accortezza in più, sarebbe potuto risultare più soddisfacente e ottimale.

Disney Speedstorm viene a plantar cara a Mario Kart y Sonic Racing con un juego de carreras tremendamente adictivo, divertido de conducir y muy carismático.

Même si Mario Kart semble indétrônable dans son genre, la lutte fait rage pour tenter de suivre le chemin tracé par le maître étalon de Nintendo. Avec un joli casting, des circuits intéressants et un gameplay proche de la perfection, Disney Speedstorm est une belle réussite capable d'offrir une expérience de jeu complète malgré un business-model qui penche logiquement vers les loot boxes. On y revient avec plaisir, notamment grâce au roulement des événements saisonniers qui permettent d'apporter du contenu différent régulièrement.
