Lamentarsi per ciò che non è come si vorrebbe e non apprezzare ciò che ci si trova dinanzi, è solo il primo passo verso un futuro dove la creatività e il coraggio saranno sempre più rare. Scars Above è un progetto AA (non AAA) che merita indubbiamente una possibilità. Quello di Mad Head Games costituisce infatti un “esperimento” dall’esito complessivamente positivo, nato dall’ibridazione tra passioni, idee, elementi e meccaniche di varia provenienza. Il risultato è una sequela di aspetti ben riusciti che però vengono penalizzati da una realizzazione forse troppo sbrigativa. L’aggiunta del new game+ e una boss fight maggiormente all’altezza di quelle precedenti avrebbero giovato non poco a una produzione che, sia pure oscillando tra alti e bassi (specie dal lato tecnico), può essere considerata molto più che dignitosa.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak sustains one of Nihon Falcom’s more underappreciated strengths: the scalability of its storytelling. Yes, the banter between members of a varied cast is expectedly lively and the inclusion of a morally ambiguous protagonist provides customary charms. But the game sinuously shifts to the scheming of the political elite and reveals a sordid underbelly that sharply contrasts with the technological distractions. Whether it’s the romantic ambitions of an NPC or biting societal critique, The Legend of Heroes franchise still has plenty to say, 35 years on.

Après Nioh, la Team Ninja prouve une nouvelle fois sa très grande maîtrise de l’action-RPG avec Wo Long Fallen Dynasty. Certes, la copie n’est pas parfaite (bestiaire pas assez fourni, endgame plutôt décevant, missions annexes qui reprennent des zones déjà visitées) mais le gameplay est tellement solide qu’on est prêt à presque tout excuser ! Ici, tout est affaire de parade, d’arts martiaux et de sorts, dans une approche mine de rien novatrice pour le genre. La plupart des ambiances sont réussies, il y a largement de quoi choisir sa voie en tant que guerrier et le tout se révèle même plus accessible que les Souls-like japonais du studio. Une excellente pioche, qui plus est disponible "day one" dans le Xbox Game Pass.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty es un juego con grandes ambiciones. Este proyecto de Team Ninja buscaba emular a uno de los grandes éxitos técnicos, mecánicos e innovadores de la época y ha conseguido acercarse en algunos aspectos. Ahora bien, lo bueno no quita lo malo, y lamentablemente hay puntos negativos de peso que no nos dejan tranquilos durante la experiencia, por lo que se mancha el producto y sus ambiciones. Wo Long es un muy buen videojuego con ideas innovadoras y un gameplay adictivo. Probablemente, es de los juegos que mejor han captado esa idea de combate intenso y exigente que buscan los usuarios, dejando un muy buen sabor de boca con estas características. Además, el juego tiene personalidad, si bien imita bastante a otros títulos famosos, este rompe el paradigma y presenta ideas innovadoras que dan un giro a las situaciones de combate, ayudando a su disfrute y diferenciación.wo long fallen dynasty. Pero como hemos dicho, hay errores garrafales que son imperdonables. Por suerte, la dificultad es un tema que se puede solucionar, necesitará de tiempo y estudio, pero será un cambio obligado en el futuro. Aun con todo lo anterior, consideramos que Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty es un gran videojuego que merece la pena y debe ser probado por todos los amantes de FromSoftware y Sekiro, a los que aseguramos, no va a decepcionar.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty’s combat plays very differently from Team Ninja’s own Nioh games – more in the mold of Sekiro than Dark Souls – and yet it manages to excel and falter in just about the same areas. When it comes to the clashing of melee weapons, Wo Long is among the best in the genre, full stop. Its action is fast and thrilling, the options for taking down its ferocious enemies are many and immensely rewarding to master, and its deflection-heavy combat is one of the most satisfying since Sekiro. All of those strengths outweigh an overbearing loot system, poor storytelling, and even a disappointing lack of variety in enemies. If not for that, Wo Long might’ve been one of Team Ninja’s greatest achievements – as it is, it’s simply a great one.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty è un esperimento riuscito solamente in parte. Team Ninja fatica a trovare il giusto bilanciamento e, nel tentativo di renderlo più accessibile di un fin troppo punitivo Nioh, ottiene l'effetto opposto e dà al giocatore un senso d'invincibilità già dalle prime battute. Il sistema di combattimento dinamico e personalizzabile è senza alcun dubbio un, se non il, punto forte del gioco ma l'utilizzo dello spirito in sostituzione del mana fa sì che questi si possa rompere facilmente impostando le giuste stregonerie (o anche senza, se si è pronti di riflessi). La verticalità del level design risulta a volte un ostacolo e dà vita ad ambientazioni difficili da leggere o navigare, pur nella loro generale ristrettezza. La trama è accessoria, né sorprende che lo sia dati i precedenti con Nioh 2, ma c'è un filo meno di continuità rispetto a quest'ultimo, lasciando la sensazione di livelli e situazioni piuttosto disuniti tra loro. Ciò non toglie che Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty sia un gioco assuefacente, se volete cimentarvi in un'avventura che per una volta insegna al nemico cosa significa subire e basta.
