With its Three Kingdoms setting, fast-paced combat centered on the Deflection mechanics, improved level design, and renewed focus on action gameplay mechanics, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is another solid action role-playing game by Team NINJA that all fans of the genre will enjoy. While the complex RPG mechanics and loot system of the Nioh games have been toned down for a much more accessible experience for newcomers, they also make the game easier than most of the studio's previous games, something that will undoubtedly disappoint those looking for a real challenge on their first playthrough.

Più che parlare di occasione sprecata o di aspettative disattese, Scars Above è un gioco che rispecchia in pieno i valori produttivi che attualmente Mad Head Games è in grado di offrire. Lo sparatutto in terza persona ad ambientazione Sci-Fi lascia a desiderare nella forma ma non troppo nel contenuto, proponendo un gameplay che va oltre la sufficienza e che ruota interamente attorno ad armi elementali ed effetti di stato da applicare ai nemici, a cui va aggiunto un buon sistema di progressione e alcune dinamiche di gameplay funzionali ma non così originali. Tutto il resto, dall’impianto narrativo al comparto grafico, mostra diverse lacune che nemmeno l’impegno profuso dallo studio di sviluppo serbo è riuscito a colmare.

Scars Above è un titolo che ha tanti difetti e pochi pregi. Sicuramente le meccaniche da third-person-shooter sono azzeccate ma, ad esempio, i combattimenti all’arma bianca sono letteralmente inguardabili. La storia che gira intorno al titolo non colpisce particolarmente e presenta qualche problematica, con il villain principale scritto in maniera non ottimale. Per non parlare dell’Art Direction che, nonostante sia gradevole da vedere, risulta poco ispirata e non dà la percezione di esplorare un pianeta sconosciuto. Insomma, Scars Above è un progetto che avrebbe potuto dare molto, ma molto di più, ma purtroppo le scelte apportate al gioco sono risultate veramente poco azzeccate ed entusiasmanti, almeno la maggior parte.

Le ambientazioni ispirate e l’elemento tattico alla base del gunplay sono certamente apprezzabili ma non riescono a far superare i confini della sufficienza a Scars Above. Molti degli errori e delle leggerezze si devono alla gioventù dello studio di sviluppo, che è stato comunque in grado di definire una lore credibile e approfondita e un intreccio completo ma non pienamente soddisfacente. Se avete una passione smodata per lo spazio e il cinema di fantascienza, potreste prendere in considerazione l’idea di accompagnare Kate nel suo viaggio ma, in caso contrario, i motivi che dovrebbero spingervi a provarlo si riducono notevolmente.

Tentacular is a fun little sandbox game that manages to be as genuinely fun as it is funny. Filled to the brim with moments, it’s great for VR newcomers, or those who just want a break from all the super-serious shooters and world-saving simulations.

Scars Above offers a great shooter experience that's a bit rough around the edges in some areas when it comes to realizing its vision and potential. While these problems are noticeable, I don't feel like it takes too much from the full product while offering a haunting survival horror experience with a unique gimmick that makes players think about the best approach to the way they face the environment around the enemies.

Scars Above è un action in terza persona che fi farà vivere l'avventura di Kate Ward, una scienziata che suo malgrado si ritrova su un pianeta alieno dove ogni cosa tenta di ucciderla. Compito della nostra eroina sarà quello di raggiungere un faro luminoso proiettato dal Metaedro, una piramide capovolta, che l'ha relegata su questo mondo. Il sistema di gioco ricorda molto un Souls game unito alle meccaniche di Dead Space, compreso lo spirito un po' horror che a tratti prende il titolo. Esteticamente datato, va giocato se siete appassionati del genere, altrimenti dirigete pure il vostro sguardo altrove.

Scars Above rate malheureusement l'occasion de sortir du lot, et vient se caser dans la catégorie des nombreux jeux d'aventures qui ont décidé de reprendre les mécaniques initiées par la série des Souls. La linéarité met rapidement un coup d'arrêt à l'idée qu'on se fait de l'exploration d'une planète inconnue, tandis que les cinématiques laissent s'évaporer ce qui restait d'immersion. Reste un gameplay intéressant et la possibilité d'interagir de nombreuses manières avec les ennemis qui procurent tout de même un sentiment de satisfaction encourageant.

Scars Above shows a lot of potential in its third-person shooting, fun elemental reactions, and a good number of creatures to experiment with. The thrill of setting out to discover a new alien world is short-lived, however, due to the weapons and gadgets in your arsenal quickly growing so powerful that nothing poses a threat. And while there are a few excellent environments to explore, everything within them – the characters, story, and universe – feel weak and underdeveloped, giving you few reasons to stop and smell the alien roses once you’ve blasted your way through.

Destiny 2: Lightfall is a disappointing expansion with a campaign that falls flat on its face, an underwhelming new destination, and only a few new standout activities to take on. That said, Strand and the new Tormentor enemy are fantastic new additions to the sandbox, some of the endgame activities and added difficulty make for a sweaty, memorable time, and per usual, the raid is a complete blast (even if it isn’t their best). No doubt Lightfall’s shortcomings are made more painful by immediately following The Witch Queen and its strong post-launch updates, which felt like Destiny 2 had finally overcome its storytelling woes and charted out a promising future for itself. After playing Lightfall, perhaps too fittingly given its name, that future doesn’t look quite as bright.

Cas complexe que celui d’Octopath Traveler II. Production soignée et donnant une bonne dose qualitative d’aventures J-RPGesque, toujours aussi performante au niveau de la réalisation et de son enrobage (doublage et bande-son inattaquables), elle trébuche encore sur des problèmes déjà là il y a quasiment cinq ans. Mieux pensé, plus riche narrativement, le jeu reste néanmoins en pilote automatique et trahit une certaine paresse qui, couplée à l’effet de surprise passé, l’empêche de briller totalement.
