Platformers are few and far between on the PC, good ones even more so. Rayman 3 is a fantastic addition to the catalog and one that's sure to please most fans of the series. The slight emphasis on action and the tighter design may tend to dissuade a few die-hards from trying this one out, but they're only going to be hurting themselves if they discount the title because it doesn't follow the same pattern as Rayman 2. The deviations here are small but significant and nudge the series in a slightly new direction. Overall, it works. I still have a small bitterness in my soul for the new "understandable" voices but the rest of the changes are a good fit for the series. At turns dark, sarcastic and ethereal, Rayman 3 seems a bit more mature now than in previous versions. But these changes are incorporated so well that there's still a tremendous continuity with the rest of the series. I've never been one to compulsively seek out every reward or experience in a game of this type. While other editors are busily slaving away looking for the errant rail grind or hidden package, I'm usually moving on to something new. Luckily Rayman rewards thorough exploration without necessarily requiring it. As such, I've had a good few days with the title but I'll have to wait until nostalgia (and the dearth of good PC platformers) calls me back for more.

Misant avant tout sur un univers complexe et envoûtant que l'on a grand plaisir à découvrir, Primal montre par moment quelques défauts (combats, caméra, rythme). Cela ne l'empêche pas d'être un bon titre qui comblera les amateurs d'ambiance gothique. En plus du jeu, le DVD de Primal renferme plusieurs bonus à débloquer comme des vidéos de making of ou des artworks. De quoi prolonger un peu son plaisir.

NWO ha vari difetti e vari pregi, del resto come tutti i giochi di questo mondo. Il problema è che questa volta i difetti sono molto ben visibili, e uno in particolare restringe il campo di clientela e di apprezzamento prima ancora di averlo provato: i requisiti di sistema. Probabilmente tra pochi mesi, grazie all'alto tasso di innovazione, parlare di 512mb di ram e di 128mb di scheda video non sarà più un problema, ma attualmente questi parametri risultano decisamente alti, restringendo notevolmente il campo della clientela, soprattutto per coloro che si aspettano una grafica da urlo, e vogliono sfruttare le potenzialità del gioco, sognando forse doom3.

Call me an old-school gamer, a shooter freak, or what have you, but I will buy Ikaruga. It's just that good. Sure, it's a bit on the short side, but Ikaruga is a fantastic example of clever game design. Slap on some beautifully modeled visuals, a fitting soundtrack, and fantastic effects, and we have a winner. Without a doubt, this is a better game than Radiant Silvergun. For one, Ikaruga takes itself far more seriously with no "The Price is Right" music or campy anime characters spoiling the otherwise fast-paced action. I feel more like the Last Starfighter when I play Ikaruga. I do have to mention that Ikaruga is a shooter and it's a shooter-fan's shooter. If you don't like intense, mind-numbing shooting action, then you're going to hate Ikaruga. However, if you grew up on heavy doses of Ikari Warriors and Gradius, then you'll probably feel right at home with this one-of-a-kind blast-a-thon. Five more stages would have been nice, but that's nothing a sequel can't cure.

So much potential and such a standard, to the point, no frills delivery is saddening. Enclave is a technical demonstration gone horribly awry when it came time to lay in the gameplay that would make it all truly epic. In some way Enclave remains enjoyable by being a straight action title with a brilliant, but imperfect delivery and a premise and allure that we rarely see done so incredibly beautifully. But, in another way, the entire time you play you're painfully reminded of the wasted potential that's sprawling out before you. Each jerky animation, tired and repetitious swing of the axe, uninspired mission, and yawn inducing spell only compound the problem. It's this odd amalgamation of coolness and brilliance coupled with sheer mediocrity, like that Starship Troopers CG cartoon. It should be good in theory, right? As it turns out, it's a toned down, incomplete and often lacking rendition of a concept someone once had that could have been amazing had it been done right. Each area of play has so many faults, it's undeniable. Still, there is a hack and slash dumb kind of grace that keeps you playing, especially since the story is solid enough to warrant it and the atmosphere rich enough to justify it. For that, the game deserves mention and note, and at least a gander. In-depth and amazing this is not so go in only if you're starved or are willing to play an acceptably average game that could have been so much more had someone just stopped and thought for a week or two about what needed to go in.
