It’s devastating to see all the goodwill and hope drain from The Tale of Bistun as time goes on. While it’s paced appropriately, with enough story laid out for the player to feel like the 5-6 hour campaign is worth it, there’s not a lot to glean from the experience. It’s not enough of an educational resource about Persian culture, it’s not a decent retelling of the original poem, and there’s not enough of a polished core in the combat mechanics. As it stands, there’s a page missing.

Super UFO Fighter is a party action game from developer VV-LABO and publisher Phoenixx that lets players duke it out by hoarding gachapons. The mechanics are simple and it can be pretty fun for a while, but it can lose its spark much too quickly after a few rounds.

Rune Factory 5's combination of features from simulation games and action role-playing games works as well as it did in previous entries in the series, but the lack of innovation, underwhelming exploration mechanics and a certain disconnect between the urgency of the main quest and living a calm farm life do damage the experience a little. The endearing cast and improved action combat, however, make for an enjoyable experience, so those who venture into Rigbarth without expecting to find a revolutionary title will find plenty to like in the game.

Pas de prise de risque pour ce troisième et dernier volet. Si la mise en place de quelques puzzles est parfois brouillonne, on apprécie toujours autant ces ingénieuses mécaniques. Le jeu arrive sur PC cet automne.

Escape Academy is an exceptionally well designed puzzle game, if not a flawlessly executed one. Developer Coin Crew Games has replicated the creativity and fine-tuned challenge of the best real-world escape rooms while amping up the fantasy and stakes in a way only video games can. But the studio’s inexperience rears its head when it comes to polish, with stiff console controls being the most obvious knock on an otherwise great experience.

Arcadegeddon non aspira alla rigiocabilità di The Binding of Isaac e non sfoggia i valori produttivi di Returnal, ma nel suo piccolo riesce benissimo nel suo intento: creare un roguelite caratterizzato da un'importante componente arcade, una modalità cooperativa divertente ed una struttura differente da tutti i suoi colleghi più illustri. Certo, dopo tutto questo tempo in Early Access avremmo gradito una maggiore rifinitura, ma anche con i suoi piccoli difetti Arcadegeddon riesce ad intrattenere ore ed ore. Insomma, chiunque ami il genere dovrebbe dargli una possibilità, anche per via della sua inclusione nella libreria di PlayStation Plus Essential e del suo prezzo budget.

La llegada de F.I.S.T. Forged in Shadow Torch en formato físico es una gran noticia para los coleccionistas y fans de los metroidvania: sigue siendo una gran aventura, con ideas interesantes, un sólido sistema de combate y una atractiva puesta en escena... aunque en Nintendo Switch resulta algo menos nítida y espectacular.

Time on Frog Island has some charm due to its appealing art style and frog NPCs, but Frog Island is not a locale that you want to book a trip to, let alone get shipwrecked at. Most of my time was spent wondering what the characters wanted me to do, and wandering around fetching items for them. There are some interesting mechanics in the game, but none of them are used anywhere close to their fullest extent in the game’s design. Unfortunately, I can’t get any of the time back that I spent on the game, but at least I can warn you to steer clear of this lackluster experience.

Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series non è una remaster perfetta, ma quella di cui avevamo bisogno, che da anni chiedevamo a gran voce. Non arriva accompagnata da fuochi di artificio, ma con la cura con cui confezionereste il regalo di compleanno per il vostro migliore amico. Contiene i due, noti capitoli del franchise, Klonoa: Door to Phantomile e Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil. Il gameplay è rimasto quello di una volta, non è cambiato quasi nulla, a parte una gestione diversa dell'interfaccia principale (con gli indicatori in alto, e non in basso), i livelli di difficoltà e la possibilità di giocare in due, in una sorta di supporto costante, interessante ma non invasivo. Praticamente quasi nulla, considerando la distanza abissale (25 anni!) tra noi e il primo Klonoa del 1997. Ma tutto è al proprio posto, la magia di due videogiochi indimenticabili è intuibile in ogni dove. La grafica, il comparto tecnico, l'adattamento sonoro sono tutti pretesti, mere necessità contingenti per portare qui, oggi, due videogiochi che appartengono al passato. L'operazione è riuscita, perché voleva ottenere soltanto questo: farci rincontrare Klonoa, dopo tanto tempo; farlo conoscere a chi non l'aveva mai visto prima. L'una e l'altra cosa sono possibili, a un prezzo forse al momento un tantino elevato, in una nuova veste dignitosa. Torniamo nel regno dei sogni allora. Ne abbiamo tanto bisogno, tutti.
