Don’t be fooled by Final Fantasy Dimensions’ status as an iOS release - this is a full-length, full-fledged oldschool Final Fantasy through and through. The simplistic episodic storyline is disappointing, but the very fun and very deep job system, lengthy quest and rewarding boss fights still make Dimensions an excellent throwback RPG.

While Formula One is a racing sport, F1 2012 is far more than just a racing game. Equal parts simulation and re-creation of the real world events, Codemasters Birmingham has done a magnificent job of capturing the precision of the vehicles and the excitement of individual events. It's a title that demands skill and tactics over thoughtless speeding, and as such will likely lose the interest of less committed players. For those willing to play by the rules, there’s an amazing wealth of content to be found here – easily Codemasters’ finest Formula One outing.

Borderlands 2 preserves the best parts of the franchise while also making numerous, much needed improvements to areas like narrative and class skill design. Additional visual customization options would make it better, and the occasional technical issue takes away from the experience, but overall this is an excellent shooter no one even remotely curious should overlook. Prepare to level. Prepare to loot. Prepare to get lost in the hilarious, bizarre and wonderful world of Pandora.

Faster Than Light is an immensely rewarding experience for a mere $10.00, and while the playthroughs theoretically clock in at two hours or so, the difficulty is such that you might spend five or more hours with it before you finally beat it. It may look and sound like a game from years past, but it demonstrates that the Roguelike genre still has plenty to offer almost 30 years after its first appearance. FTL’s situations lack some variety and the randomness of the game as a whole can be frustrating, but it largely makes up for these flaws through its intense combat and intuitive and deep micromanagement options.

My expectations for Tokyo Jungle weren’t high, but when I started playing, I quickly realized a marked error in my preliminary judgment. Tokyo Jungle might be bizarre, different and even a little bit whacky, but it’s also a lot of fun. It’s a truly different game; you’ve never played anything like it. And in a gaming industry full of the same old thing, this very fact should intrigue you. The icing on the cake? The fact that it’s a damn good experience with incredible depth and replay value.

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita is the definitive LittleBigPlanet game. It's everything you loved (or possibly didn't) from the past games boiled down into a package you can play anywhere at any time. You can collect prize bubbles while watching TV, download user-created levels at home and then play them on a plane, and sink the hours into learning create mode via 10-minute chunks at the Laundromat. Then, there's all the new stuff like touch controls, games that don't involve Sackboy, and the creation potential that could give you an endless supply of free games. Yes, the jumping is still floaty, the creation complicated and the load times a bit too long, but that doesn't stop LittleBigPlanet PS Vita from being an amazing experience.

With its gigantic roster, in-depth character customization options, and breadth of modes, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is definitely a worthy addition to the franchise. That is, if you make it past some of the more frustrating and impenetrable aspects of the Tekken universe. As a way into the genre, it could certainly do a heck of a lot better. But once you’re in, it’s a perfectly solid experience in which brawling fans will find a lot to love.

I really enjoyed my time with NHL 13. And if you’re a hockey junky like me, chances are you will, too. For a full-price title, gamers get so much more than mere roster and tuner updates (which come for free and with regularity, by the way). You also get robust online and offline modes that could potentially keep you busy for hundreds of hours. NHL 13 may have some problems and inconsistencies, but they barely detract from the quality product EA Canada has put out this year, one that may just keep you warm on those cold, dark nights when you should be watching the real thing but are forced to play it on your console of choice instead.

Mark of the Ninja illustrates how digitally downloaded games continue to be a breeding ground for some of today's most creative content. This is stealth done right, with the presentation prowess to match. It's easily a contender for Downloadable Game of the Year and it absolutely deserves a place in your digital game collection.

With the freedom of an open world combined with inconsistent tone, it’s very hard to tell just what the development team at ACQUIRE Corp was aiming for. While the story has branching paths, none were especially engrossing or entertaining, and the repetitive combat quickly took its toll. After fighting for honor, for myself and just for the sake of causing chaos in a tiny Japanese village, Way of the Samurai 4 did show me that I would not have been a very well liked person in Japan in the 1850s. But if the real world back then was anything like this game world, I wouldn't have wanted to spend much time there anyway.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure HD is a tough game to attach a number to. I undoubtedly had a good time playing it with my friends, but then again, we're all huge fighting game nerds. While there's no denying that it's a fun, memorable game, it's impossible to ignore how dated and esoteric it is. Casual fight fans will simply have no idea what's going on, while more seasoned vets will quickly be able to spot and abuse the myriad of grimy, oddball tactics. Old school JoJo fans can pick it up without hesitation but for everyone else, $20 bucks might be a little steep for a port of a little know fighter with threadbare options. However, despite it being a game out of time, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure HD is still worth playing, provided you're the right type of player.

Madden NFL 13 does something the Madden franchise hasn't done in years: it makes me want to keep playing. Yes, the commentators will repeat themselves and funky animations are going to pop up, but the game as a whole is so good. The TV presentation, the refined gameplay, the more lifelike physics -- it all adds up to Madden NFL 13 being something truly special.

Global Offensive is definitely a Counter-Strike sequel -- it looks and feels familiar, with minor tweaks here and there to help balance old issues and surprise longtime players. This is a demanding, skill-based multiplayer game that's as satisfying now as it ever was, but it's for a specific kind of player. If you're not willing to learn to play different than you're used to, look elsewhere. Otherwise, this is a top-tier tactics game that will probably share the long-tailed legacy of its predecessors.
