There's no denying that Angry Birds is fun, but it could use polish -- such as sharper visuals, a better price and smoother action. It's one of those games I could play for a few hours on a plane or obsess over on my couch.

Capcom's currently in the process of re-releasing a fair amount of its old coin-op titles to the Wii under the Virtual Console Arcade banner, and the company seems to have decided on a standardized price of 800 Wii Points for each game. For some, that amount will make sense. For SonSon, it's too much. Eight bucks will buy you much more game than this elsewhere in the Wii Shop, so while this monkey boy's journey is admittedly cute and kind of fun, its value for the cash is just too far off for it to earn a firm recommendation.

ilomilo is a challenging game disguised in an adorably harmless costume. If you’re a fan of visual logic puzzles, definitely check it out. Not only will your brain get a workout, but the slightly-out-of-tune-elementary-school-band soundtrack is a delight and the whole package has a sense of humor that will have you grinning. The lazy cooperative mode is a disappointment but there is still plenty of content to get lost in here for a few days. It’s nice to take a break from shooting people in games and instead help two friends get together.

So Bejeweled 2 on WiiWare offers only small surprises while keeping things centered on the same core gameplay that's made its name so successful for nearly a decade now. If you (or your mother) have played it to death on other platforms, you'd be fine to pass by it here. But this is a fine version, and well worth the Wii Points for those who know exactly what they'll be getting.

Dead Rising 2: Case West is great. It runs well, bends what you'd expect from a Dead Rising game, and offers a fun co-op experience for you and a pal. Sure, there are slow spots and if you had a problem with Dead Rising's time-based quests or general mechanics those issues are still here, but the pros outweigh the cons here. The story's interesting, the combo weapons are bloody, and Frank West is finally back. You don't need Dead Rising 2 or a save to play this, so go see the endings, play with a friend, and kick some undead ass.

Asphalt 6: Adrenaline is a fun arcade racer with a bunch of cars and tracks. If all you want is speed and exotic locations, this is the game for you. But let’s be honest, the Asphalt series is starting to get really familiar. Though it’s still reliable fun, the series needs to do something next time other than just offer more and more.

Look, the bottom line is that Quake Arcade Arena is $15, and how much enjoyment you’re going to get out of that boils down to how many of your friends you can get to play with you and how much nostalgia you have for the original Quake 3 Arena. If a huge population sprouts up around it then it’ll have some serious legs and be worth any shooter fan’s attention, but for now it’s kind of a ghost town. Quake Arcade Arena is fun and fast, just like fans will want, but I’m not sure they got the message about its release. Or maybe they’re playing Quake Live on their PCs, a game that’s similar and has the more compelling price tag of free.

Echochrome II is a cool use of PlayStation Move. I wasn't that engaged thanks to my "just screw around until I get it" strategy and the game's lack of penalty for such a scheme. There are lots of puzzles to tackle and there should be plenty to download once folks get their hands on the game, but that doesn't offset the stuff that turned me off.

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is a great adventure on consoles and PC but it just doesn't translate to the iPad well. It's got a great new look, clever puzzles, and loads of fun stuff to collect, but the onscreen controls are clumsy and the game doesn't run smoothly when playing cooperatively. Instead of trying to shoehorn console games onto the iPad developers should be taking advantage of its particular touch screen possibilities.

TRON: Evolution is barely a TRON game. It's a repetitive cyberpunk Prince of Persia. The platforming and combat are flashy, but both feel awkward to control and get really competitive. All the cool things you'd expect in a TRON game are restricted to the limited multiplayer modes. If you've got 10 people you can play some fun multiplayer games, but there are only a half dozen maps including the day one DLC. If you want to find out what happens between the two films, then you at least get a bit of a story here. And if the developers keep expanding the multiplayer with DLC like they're already doing then this game could be worth a purchase eventually. But right now TRON feels like a movie cash in game more than the next step in a classic gaming franchise.

N.O.V.A. 2 is a stunning shooter that should not be missed, especially if you were a fan of the original. Everything has been improved, from the inclusion of the monster mechs to the 10-player online matches that work without hiccups. While it works on older devices, playing N.O.V.A. 2 with a Retina display and gyro is the way to go. The controls are smooth, which helps so much when the action gets furious. While there can be no doubt that N.O.V.A. 2 takes a lot of cues from Halo, there are far worse games to lean on for inspiration. Grab it.

Whether you're new to Bad Company 2 or have been repairing, healing, and blowing up other players since March of this year, Bad Company 2 -Vietnam is among the best multiplayer experiences this year. The ability to contribute and succeed and unlock additional levels in ways that don't have to include shooting other players and the reliance on strategy over twitch gameplay clicks just as well in Bad Company 2 - Vietnam. Meanwhile, the re-balancing of character classes and level variety might actually trump Bad Company 2 proper. Battlefield fans will probably argue over whether to play Bad Company 2 or its expansion in the months to come. But when it comes to choosing between arguably the best multiplayer game of the year and its excellent expansion, that seems like a good problem to have.

I’m sure I’ll eventually get tired of purchasing Bomberman games every couple of years, but for now, playing some new modes and actually being able to find online matches is worth $10. If you go into Battlefest with the right expectations, you won’t be disappointed; it’s nothing game-changing, but it’s a good way to get together with friends for a night of downright charming competitive multiplayer.

Intellivision Lives is strictly for the fans, but even then, there have been so many previous Intellivision packages that the value of this collection is brought into question. It is a budget release, which helps smooth over some rough edges like missing games (due to licensing) and the obtuse menus. But even then, I can’t get too enthusiastic about it because even though I am a big fan of this era of gaming, there is a key reason that Atari 2600 overshadowed the Intellivision: it simply had more good games.

I appreciate the ideas that went into Kung-Fu Live, but the execution is seriously lacking. Setting up an ideal play space will be difficult for most, and the game has trouble tracking quick jabs and combos. When moves are properly registered by the PlayStation Eye, enemies will abuse their ability to block. Kung-Fu Live has an appealing premise and fun visuals, but I can't recommend a game that left me feeling so defeated.

Active 2 on Wii and PS3 functions well and will give anyone who’s willing to put the time in one hell of a workout. It has activities that can make exercising a little more fun, and the way it tracks your diet and general health both locally, and online if you choose to upload your stats to EA’s servers, makes it a unique tool that can help you reshape your life and your body. Occasional sensor issues will frustrate people, but either of these versions are a better pick over the Kinect version.

Successful iPhone games must offer quick, satisfying gameplay and an addictive quality to keep you coming back. Infinity Blade masters both, with short combat segments and a satisfying loop of self-improvement and challenge. Some might find the grind uninteresting, but as a tried-and-true gamer, I loved every second of Infinity Blade. Though the combat is interesting, leveling up my character is what ended up hooking me. Infinity Blade delivers one of the coolest experiences on iPhone and is a sure contender as one of the best mobile games ever made.
