Hysteria Project 2 has all of the elements needed for a great horror game: excellent sense of dread and panic, great atmospherics, and a good story. But it just bludgeons you with death scenes that constantly rip you out of the experience. When constructing a world this interesting, Bulkypix should be trying to keep the player fully engaged in it. That’s how fear is made. I’m not scared by getting killed every 30 seconds. I’m frustrated.

If money's no object to you, you're a big Capcom fan and you want to revisit one of the company's biggest arcade hits of the pre-Street Fighter II era, then by all means click into the Wii Shop and give 1942's new Virtual Console re-release a look. If what you're really wanting is a deep and satisfying shooter experience, though, there are plenty of other, better options available elsewhere in the Shop. For the same price, or cheaper.

If you don’t expect much from it, you’ll have a pretty good time with Venetica. However, without the patience to figure out quests and gameplay elements on your own, you’ll end up incredibly frustrated. If you don’t need a game to hold your hand, or mind that it’s not up to snuff in the graphics or combat departments, you’ll find that questing around Venice is a good time.

Dead Space Extraction is fun and the best reason so far to own the PlayStation Move. It packs an interesting story, tight controls and a ton to do for its nominal price. I wish it had a few more PS3 bells and whistles and didn't lose steam at times, but I enjoyed the ride.

Spare Parts is a game with a fun premise and solid ideas, but the execution of that premise and those ideas are, at best, entirely muddled. If you were planning on playing this with a friend or loved one, don’t – unless you secretly hate them or want them to end up hating games. The fixed camera, sloppy platforming, poor controls, and boring combat make for an adventure most sentient life forms won’t enjoy.

Dead Space is not a cop-out, shoehorned experience – it’s a real-deal chapter in the Dead Space franchise that fits right in with the console games even though it takes a slightly different tack by de-emphasizing shock-jumps and laying on action scene after action scene. But that just means EA understands the differences (and, yes, limitations) of the iDevices. Dead Space has good controls, great visuals, and a fun story. It may repeat itself a little too much, but the blood-soaked ride never feels bloated. I preferred it on iPad for the bigger screen, but iPhone version is just as fun. Dead Space fans are well-served by this download.

Dead Space 2 is more than just an action game and it's more than a survival horror game -- it's a game that tells a really personal story about a guy who has been seriously scarred by the events around him. That premise alone makes it interesting, but Visceral Games melds it with rewarding combat, shocking enemies, and huge set pieces before tossing it into a world that's truly creepy and scary. I didn't find multiplayer that interesting and would've liked to have seen Isaac stop being an errand boy, but none of that spoils what you're getting here. The shocking moments, the gruesome deaths, and the fun of playing through this experience again and again are what I took away from this one. Dead Space 2 is an excellent game, and it's well worth your time and money.

The idea of allowing other gamers to jump into your campaign and control either friends or foes is a good one, and we’d definitely like to see it used in other, better games. But despite its enormous potential, Mindjack is ultimately a frustrating and forgettable shooter with horrible presentation, clumsy controls and a plodding campaign. It serves up a next-gen idea with its unique multiplayer design yet delivers it in a horribly last-gen package. If you really want to be Mindjacked, make sure you bring some aspirin.

Prinny 2 is designed for gamers that want to get their asses kicked. It's the platforming equivalent to the hardcore strategy found in Disgaea, and it will keep all the brave souls out there very busy. I enjoyed my time with it… when I wasn't dying. Constant deaths make the experience less about fun and more about punishing the player for microscopic errors. That's fine for those of you that need an extreme challenge, but for the rest of us it’s a dangerous affair that might require a brief stint in baby mode.

I don't know what it is about games in this series in particular, but every time I play them I somehow feel much more willing to deal with the incredible frustration of their excessive difficulty. Maybe it's because that's what Ghosts 'N Goblins is -- challenge incarnate. Maybe it's a nostalgia thing. Maybe it's because there really is something clinically wrong with me, and I really am overdue for a visit with a licensed professional. Whatever the case, my madness may not be entirely my own. If you share in it and in an appreciation for this franchise's unique ability to make you want to punch a hole in a wall, download quickly.

MicroBot is an average twin-stick shooter complete with a mixed bag of problems and enjoyable features. The controls are designed to be unresponsive, which can be cool and irritating at the same time. The sudden waves of enemies and most of the bosses will require some patience to get through, but if you can look past the game’s problems you’ll enjoy upgrading and assembling your perfect MicroBot combination and exploring every nook and cranny around the level.

Fans of games like Phoenix Wright and The Secret of Monkey Island are going to love Ghost Trick. It's a spirited point-and-click adventure that manages to innovate in an aging genre and the animation has to be seen to be believed. Provided you're not averse to reading, you'll find this Trick to be a treat.

There's no denying that Angry Birds is fun, but it could use polish -- such as sharper visuals, a better price and smoother action. It's one of those games I could play for a few hours on a plane or obsess over on my couch.

Capcom's currently in the process of re-releasing a fair amount of its old coin-op titles to the Wii under the Virtual Console Arcade banner, and the company seems to have decided on a standardized price of 800 Wii Points for each game. For some, that amount will make sense. For SonSon, it's too much. Eight bucks will buy you much more game than this elsewhere in the Wii Shop, so while this monkey boy's journey is admittedly cute and kind of fun, its value for the cash is just too far off for it to earn a firm recommendation.

ilomilo is a challenging game disguised in an adorably harmless costume. If you’re a fan of visual logic puzzles, definitely check it out. Not only will your brain get a workout, but the slightly-out-of-tune-elementary-school-band soundtrack is a delight and the whole package has a sense of humor that will have you grinning. The lazy cooperative mode is a disappointment but there is still plenty of content to get lost in here for a few days. It’s nice to take a break from shooting people in games and instead help two friends get together.

So Bejeweled 2 on WiiWare offers only small surprises while keeping things centered on the same core gameplay that's made its name so successful for nearly a decade now. If you (or your mother) have played it to death on other platforms, you'd be fine to pass by it here. But this is a fine version, and well worth the Wii Points for those who know exactly what they'll be getting.
