The fact of the matter is that BlackSite: Area 51 is just like every other run-of-the-mill FPS out there. You can find better multiplayer in Crysis, you can find a better storyline in Bioshock, and you can find a livelier environment in just about anything. The game underperforms in every aspect, and although that doesn't make it bad, it certainly makes it a major disappointment for everyone who was anxiously awaiting this game's debut.

While it's a more arcade-like take on the Nazi conflict, Blazing Angels 2: Secret Missions of WWII is enjoyable, albeit easy. The game is somewhat unbalanced thanks to the numerous weapon pickups, wingmen that aren't particularly useful, and large numbers of ineffectual opponents. However, there is some fun to be had, even if you find yourself blowing through the single player missions and taking out the limited number of pilots online via multiplayer.

With Asteroids Deluxe you’re getting a 20 year old game that can be found around the Internet for free. The feeling of playing Asteroids again will be fun for some, but it sure doesn’t last long. The “Evolved” visuals are extremely cumbersome, even if they do brighten the screen and increase the presentation values and it’s disappointing to see that they limited the gameplay area to a 4:3 ratio rather than widening it out and delivering the full widescreen environment to roam around in. The Asteroids Deluxe package is another classic game that feels like its achievement points are worth more than the purchase itself.

You should probably avoid Swashbucklers: Blue vs. Grey even if you're obsessed with pirates -- it's just not a well-made game. The soundtrack will often delight and the shadows of potential pulse faintly under layers of mud, but those statements clearly don't warrant a playthrough. This cowboy pirate should just hang up his revolver and call it a day.

If I had a hit single on the Billboard Top 20, I'd be pretty pissed if my video game tie in turned out like The Aly & AJ Adventure. It's clearly a budget made cash in that's trying to sucker some parents into buying it for their kids this Christmas. The game is not rewarding in the least, and offers no motivation to play the uninspired minigames. Plus it's over in a few hours. I never thought that a game about me traveling across the world, alone with two hot singers, could suck, but Aly & AJ proved to be about as engaging as listening to them talk about evolution.

Puzzle fans should take new notice of Wrecking Crew now, even if they've avoided it before by thinking it's more of an action title. And if they did, it's not surprising – this game hasn't been properly presented in the past. But if gamers who loved Tetris, Bejeweled, Dr. Mario and Puzzle Quest jump on board and give this one a fair amount of downloads, we might also be blessed with its sequel. Wrecking Crew '98 was its name, and it was a late-generation 16-bit effort that never made it out of Japan. It was a more traditional puzzle game, and featured head-to-head two-player action not unlike the Tetrises and Puyo Puyos of the world. And with the Import category now active and previously Japan-only titles like The Lost Levels and Sin & Punishment already available on the service, its arrival is certainly an excellent possibility – so cash in those 500 Wii Points and support the cause.

As scathing as it may sound, there's really no reason for a racing fan to play Hot Wheels: Beat That! unless that fan is a little kid. Although the gameplay isn't quite broken since it's still physically possible to participate in races, it just isn't fun. Even more unfortunate is the fact that the game's few positive elements, like awarding flame points (use for unlocking content) for achieving secondary goals, are completely lost in a much greater number of negative traits. The Wii version runs slightly better than the PS2 version, but the difference is very slight and doesn't redeem the game's poor mechanics. Ultimately, there's a great deal of irony in Beat That!'s title, since it's beaten very easily by the majority of racing titles on the market today. Save your money and buy some chocolate or something instead.

Monster Bass is a budget title -- it'll only set you back about $30 -- and it shows. The graphics are lackluster, the game offers no incentive to keep playing, the replay value is practically nonexistent, and the broken controls are unforgivable. Yes, wrangling a fish onboard works and is fun enough thanks to heavy use of rumble and trying to pull off some combos, but the rest of the package is a letdown. If you or your child is aching for a simple fishing title, this one might fit the bill … once it goes on clearance.

Soldier of Fortune: Payback has one thing going for it: excessive dismemberment. Everything else is standard stuff for a shooter. Yet, I must admit, that I get a guilty pleasure playing Payback. Though it's not a good game, it's still fun to see body parts fly. If that doesn't interest you, there is an option to turn down the gore. That, however, takes away the only interesting thing Solider of Fortune: Payback has to offer. Still, Payback isn't a good game. If you are hoping for a return to the glory days of the older PC versions, you are in for a rude awakening.

Alien Soldier is a long-lost piece of Treasure's action gaming legacy. It's got the fast-firing, high-energy, overly-explosive intensity that fans of the company have come to expect after years of playing its shooter and action titles, and it will immediately appeal to anyone who's ever enjoyed a round or two of games like Gradius V, Ikaruga or, of course, Gunstar Heroes. Compared to the latter, Alien Soldier is an excellent follow-up and immediately recommendable as a spiritual sequel to that experience. But this particular title's lack of a two-player co-op mode and slightly elevated pricetag (it's 900 Points, instead of the traditional 800) keep it from eclipsing the value of the one that came before. If you've already downloaded Gunstar and played it to death, put down the nine bucks to keep the action going with Alien Soldier. But if you still haven't commanded the Heroes in battle, put Solider on hold, try Gunstar first, and then come back here afterward to see if your brain is still intact enough to be able to handle yet more Treasure-brand madness.

A great deal of work was done to bring the look and feel of TimeShift up to date, though an equal amount of time should have been spent on the design and presentation. With games like Halo 3 and The Orange Box out and Call of Duty 4 and Unreal Tournament 3 on the way, those design shortcomings feel ever magnified in the face of such giants. That doesn't mean there isn't any fun to be had here and if you have a spare weekend in the midst of the intense gaming schedule this fall demands of hardcore gamers, then Timeshift wouldn't be a bad way to spend it.
