Is Carmen Sandiego: the Secret of the Stolen Drums worth your hard earned cash? Well, if you’re a major fan of the television show and PC games, then no. If you’re a gamer looking for sweet platforming action, then no. Thing is, there are other platform action-adventure games out there. If you’re out for an engaging adventure chock full of personality, action and light stealth elements, then head toward Beyond Good & Evil. If you want a history lesson, then crack open a book. The Secret of the Stolen Drums warrants a rental if you’ve played and finished Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Super Mario Sunshine, Beyond Good & Evil, Jak II and other such platformers. It may also entertain the kiddies for awhile. Otherwise, simply rent it if you’re curious.

It's great that turn-based strategy games are starting to come back. Sure, it's not a huge renaissance but it's something at least. Given that most of us got into PC gaming based on our love of X-COM, Civilization, Master of Magic, et. al. I think we're all happy to see some quality titles in this vein. That's particularly true on the tactical side of things where the roster of good games is limited to old standards like X-COM, Jagged Alliance and, to a lesser extent, Fallout. I'd put Silent Storm just a step behind those other titles purely in terms of its overall ease of use and the fact that the World War II setting is getting kind of tired. The destructible environments and nice 3D graphics go a long way towards bringing this genre up to speed in terms of technology, of course, and that definitely works in its favor. Since most turn-based gamers aren't as concerned with particle effects and such, the real selling point is the strong and sophisticated tactical system.

Since I can remember I've been a Capcom whore. And I wanted to like AM badly, but in the end I'm left with a sour taste. It looks okay, has some nice cars and visual effects, but the most important aspect of this game is missing -- the control mechanics are seriously unrefined. Sure, try to convince me that this is a "drifting" game. Maybe that will convince me that the control isn't beyond help. Honestly, control is always what makes or breaks a game; in this case it's done the latter. I'm really sad, too, because this could be a nice sideways, sliding romp with some cool cars. A bit of advice Capcom, kill the announcer--he should have been shot after MVC2 and fire the tuning designer, too. Get someone in there who can fix the damn control.

Basically what you're getting here is some fun, diverting online and LAN multiplayer for $19.99 (for the expansion pack alone, not the full package including Black Hawk Down). The lack of controllable vehicles is a downside, but you also get dozens of maps that can be tons o' fun with enough people. The longer sight lines make for more challenging gameplay, and the large servers allow a dynamic that makes every round a different experience. The single player game, however...it needs work.

You get that I really don't like this game, right? Having already waxed critical regarding the game's worst features, I feel the need to add this final thought: Though games are a separate medium than television, the key to successful licensing lies in adapting what makes a property cool as you move from one medium to another. In the case of Monster Garage, the developers have eliminated the personalities and blank-slate design decisions that make the show worth watching. Worse still, the designers have simply reproduced challenges from the show virtually ensuring that anyone who might have the least interest in this game won't be surprised by any part of it. The only monster is this garage is a flagrant disregard for fun.

F:BOS is a fun, if flawed, hack'n'slash game that provides a good 10 hours or so of shooting, explosives, and plenty of mutants to dig into. The lock-on system enhances the action and makes things more exciting even if the poor camera work tries to work against you. For a change of pace, all of this action takes place in a toxic Mad Max environment rather than the usual AD&D world with mythical creatures and fanciful spells. If you want a good adventure to have with a buddy, F:BOS is a good choice even if it does feel a bit rushed. The music was barely worked on and the camera could have used a lot of fine-tuning, but there's still a lot of beasts to button mash your way through. If this type of action appeals to you, this is far from the be-all-end-all, but a worthy entry in the genre of action games with a bit of an RPG flavor.

Though not nearly as groundbreaking as the previous titles Afrika Korps definitely adds another layer of refinement to the series and offers up some intriguing battles in some new areas. At this point the game is in dire need of better graphics but, beyond that, it's still the best PC wargame on the market. I find it hard to resist the urge to keep playing even as other games find their way onto my desktop. The few tiny discrepancies that have found their way in won't bother anyone except hardcore purists (who make up an astonishingly large percentage of the game's audience). Whatever inconsistencies they are in the Orders of Battles are easily forgivable given the scope of the project

Rayman 3 is one of the most enjoyable games currently available for the N-Gage, not to mention one of the most polished 2D platforming experiences we've seen in quite a while. As long as you're not afraid of a little challenge, Rayman 3 should not be missed.

Road Rash: Jailbreak is an impressive production on the Game Boy Advance that's made a hater of the series (that would be me) into a believer that someone can make the idea work as a fun videogame. Even though the game needs more stuff across the board (tracks, opponents, gameplay options), it's impressive and definitely enjoyable enough to warrant a purchase...especially if you've had a blast with past games in the Road Rash series.

The long-standing Legacy of Kain series finally hits paydirt with one of the best stories in the series and without a doubt, one of the best combat systems in an action-adventure series. But does anyone care anymore? Did Blood Omen 2 and Soul Reaver 2 push everyone away for good? I don't know, but despite its problems and the still difficult-to-relate-to stylized universe, this is a must-have in the series. And I was ready to just give up on old Kain too. But like I said earlier, Crystal Dynamics gets right to the heart of all matters in this episode. When you're not gawking at the superb visuals or learning how Kain and Raziel will settle their scores, you'll be deeply involved in combat or solving some ridiculously elaborate physical puzzle in the spectral world. In many ways, this is the same basic game that Crystal D showed us in Soul Reaver, just highly evolved. And believe it or not, an enormous amount of stuff happens. The story is outrageously good. You won't believe what happens. So, is it the last game in the series? It very well could be. But I'm not telling. Go play it yourself. It's finally worth it. One last note: Looking back on the scoring of Soul Reaver 2 (which at 9.0, was way too high), all I can say is that hindsight proves to be 20-20. That game told a great story, but just didn't deserve that score. With LOK: Defiance I scored it just as I would if no other scores had been given to the series.

Red Faction delivers one of the most satisfying single and multiplayer gaming experiences on the N-Gage to date in addition to being one of the most impressive first-person-shooters made portable. The only thing holding it back from being a must-buy is its touchy controls, and slightly steep learning curve. Those looking for some intense action, and are not afraid of a little challenge owe it to themselves to check out this memorable game.

I fully expect Paradox Entertainment to address many of these issues of population growth, AI treaties, prestige, etc, over the next couple of months. They did it with EU2; they'll do it with Victoria. Unlike some developers, I don't expect them to leave us players high and dry as they move on to their next major title. If I were to assign an overall rating to a fully functional, well-patched, excellent-manual-enclosed Victoria, it might be an 8.5. But I can hardly give a rating to that final product when we weren't sent it for review. Like every critic at IGN, I've been caught out before by magnificent gaming concepts that failed to fully translate theory into practice. So while my ratings here are relatively low, they reflect the current state-of-game as I see it. Not good, no; but hardly irreparable. There's an excellent game struggling to surface in Victoria, and I look forward to playing it just as soon as the requisite patches appear. Now would some kindly soul please create an accurate, intelligent manual for the game?

Pokemon Channel makes watching TV boring. I can hardly find enough compelling gameplay to call this a game. It's far too passive an experience to keep my interest for more than a few minutes -- especially since I'm forced to watch an episode of the PichuBros. and sit through other boring commentary to access other parts of the game. It's not a very fun experience, at least for people over 12. It's truly mindless. Even the more meaty segments of the game, like the quiz show, is way too easy -- I was able to answer nine of ten questions correctly with a very rudimentary knowledge of Pokemon. However, I do realize that this is a kids' title. From that perspective I think Pokemon Channel gets the job done, especially if the child is an avid fan or too young to grasp more complex games. There are some interesting aspects, like the paint program, but even the taking care of Pikachu bit is pretty simple. If parents are looking for a kid friendly title, this is it. However, teenager and adults (whether or not a Pokemon fan) will find far too mind numbing to tolerate. Please rent it first, if you're still curious.

Battlegrounds is a nice change of pace for hardcore gamers because it combines elements from fighters and RTS games but I'm not sure if your average gaming schmo will be able to get into it. The interface and control is simple enough but the depth of this sucker will likely be lost on most. I can't help but thinking the best of what this game had to offer was left in the development studio somewhere for fear of overwhelming gamers who might not be ready for all it had to offer. It seems to me that it barely offers enough to get the attention of serious gamers but hardcore Magic The Gathering fans will likely want to stick to the card game that already know and love. We give Secret Level a ton of credit, however, for doing the obvious and including Xbox Live play in a game that demands it. Most developers would've just skipped it altogether and offered some lame excuse about user base or something.
