Overall Shadowbane is a decent game. It¿s not great by any means, but it does provide one of the most satisfactory Player vs. Player experiences of any current online world. The fast leveling is great to get right to the action, but without skill respecs it means you will be erasing and remaking the same character multiple times if you want to be at peak efficiency. Most casual players will never experience how in-depth the city creation and guild system is, so it removes a large part of the game for them. Shadowbane is a good game for ¿hardcore¿ MMORPG fans. Unfortunately, this is not the game for someone who is new to online worlds or for anyone who detests Player vs. Player combat.

NBA Street Vol. 2 has quickly become one of my favorite games of 2003. The tons of single player game modes along with the automatic fun of head-to-head matches with your buddies make Street 2 one of the best values on any system. EA usually has top notch production elements regardless of genre, but the development team in Canada has set a new standard for keeping a consistent theme running through every element of a game. This is one of the main reasons why Street 2 will appeal to casual hoop fans who don't know their triple threat positions from their baselines. Even fans of basketball sims won't be able to resist the flat-out fun with NBA trappings that Street represents. You know a game is strong when online support, instant replay controls and lack of old school tunes are the biggest complaints you can muster. But as a total package, Street 2 is going to be tough to beat. The only thing that could challenge it at this point would be a football version of the same thing. Until that happens rest assured that you're in very good hands with the depth, the moves and the themes of NBA Street Vol. 2.

If you see Castles & Catapults sitting on the ground underneath the bargain bin at your local software dealer, that's probably because the rest of the bargain titles tossed it on the floor out of embarrassment. How anyone could package this and expect someone to spend twenty of their hard earned dollars is beyond amazing. Games like this make me slap happy. I gotta slap myself in disbelief, slap the people that sell it because they're thieves, and slap Ivan just because he's there. Most of all I have to bitch slap this game over and over again for stealing my time and bringing me hours closer to death with nothing to show for it.

The hardest thing for a licensed game is capturing the essence of the character. Revenge succeeds with a story and style that fits Wolvie, but the gameplay has far too many holes and the sound and graphics are nothing special. This is also a relatively short title, able to be finished in about eight hours. There are bonus challenges, which add an extra hour or two of gameplay, but this isn't a game you'll play twice. This one's probably best as a weekend borrow from a friend unless you are an absolute hardcore Wolverine fan who must have everything. If you find this, later on in life, on some store shelf for $10 or even, go for it. But at full price, you'll be the one screaming "Raarr!" Remember folks... If you want a killer third-person action game that's heavy on the combat with Wolverine in it, take Buffy, add claws, add Red Faction-esque destructible environments, and go nuts. All this lame locking on, being stealthy, performing advanced moves with a single tap, dealing with a wretched camera system crap needs to go straight out the window fast.

While the single player mode leaves much to be desired, and the game does some from a few mildly irritating shortcomings, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is nevertheless a DAMM good game (Come on, you didn't think I'd go the entire review without using that pun, did you?) Not only does it absolutely trounce any of the previous Godzilla games, it's also one of the best multiplayer party games available on the Xbox. If you're the slightest bit interested in four-player gaming, go trade in your copies of Fuzion Frenzy, Kung-Fu Chaos and Shrek Super Party and pick this game up.

At first I was a little skeptical about a game that promised a ¿mature¿ theme to a tycoon type game, for in the past it hasn¿t always worked out. But as the developers implemented a comedic approach to the game, the result was a swift execution of a solid idea. While the game may grow old after a little while, there is still a solid amount to keep you coming back for more, and incentives to make your casino empire flourish.

Platformers are few and far between on the PC, good ones even more so. Rayman 3 is a fantastic addition to the catalog and one that's sure to please most fans of the series. The slight emphasis on action and the tighter design may tend to dissuade a few die-hards from trying this one out, but they're only going to be hurting themselves if they discount the title because it doesn't follow the same pattern as Rayman 2. The deviations here are small but significant and nudge the series in a slightly new direction. Overall, it works. I still have a small bitterness in my soul for the new "understandable" voices but the rest of the changes are a good fit for the series. At turns dark, sarcastic and ethereal, Rayman 3 seems a bit more mature now than in previous versions. But these changes are incorporated so well that there's still a tremendous continuity with the rest of the series. I've never been one to compulsively seek out every reward or experience in a game of this type. While other editors are busily slaving away looking for the errant rail grind or hidden package, I'm usually moving on to something new. Luckily Rayman rewards thorough exploration without necessarily requiring it. As such, I've had a good few days with the title but I'll have to wait until nostalgia (and the dearth of good PC platformers) calls me back for more.

Call me an old-school gamer, a shooter freak, or what have you, but I will buy Ikaruga. It's just that good. Sure, it's a bit on the short side, but Ikaruga is a fantastic example of clever game design. Slap on some beautifully modeled visuals, a fitting soundtrack, and fantastic effects, and we have a winner. Without a doubt, this is a better game than Radiant Silvergun. For one, Ikaruga takes itself far more seriously with no "The Price is Right" music or campy anime characters spoiling the otherwise fast-paced action. I feel more like the Last Starfighter when I play Ikaruga. I do have to mention that Ikaruga is a shooter and it's a shooter-fan's shooter. If you don't like intense, mind-numbing shooting action, then you're going to hate Ikaruga. However, if you grew up on heavy doses of Ikari Warriors and Gradius, then you'll probably feel right at home with this one-of-a-kind blast-a-thon. Five more stages would have been nice, but that's nothing a sequel can't cure.

So much potential and such a standard, to the point, no frills delivery is saddening. Enclave is a technical demonstration gone horribly awry when it came time to lay in the gameplay that would make it all truly epic. In some way Enclave remains enjoyable by being a straight action title with a brilliant, but imperfect delivery and a premise and allure that we rarely see done so incredibly beautifully. But, in another way, the entire time you play you're painfully reminded of the wasted potential that's sprawling out before you. Each jerky animation, tired and repetitious swing of the axe, uninspired mission, and yawn inducing spell only compound the problem. It's this odd amalgamation of coolness and brilliance coupled with sheer mediocrity, like that Starship Troopers CG cartoon. It should be good in theory, right? As it turns out, it's a toned down, incomplete and often lacking rendition of a concept someone once had that could have been amazing had it been done right. Each area of play has so many faults, it's undeniable. Still, there is a hack and slash dumb kind of grace that keeps you playing, especially since the story is solid enough to warrant it and the atmosphere rich enough to justify it. For that, the game deserves mention and note, and at least a gander. In-depth and amazing this is not so go in only if you're starved or are willing to play an acceptably average game that could have been so much more had someone just stopped and thought for a week or two about what needed to go in.

The last time I checked, survival horror games were supposed to be scary. The only thing frightening about Run Like Hell is the prospect of having to play through it more than once. The incessant combat feels like filler designed to make the game longer. So do the plentiful and unoriginal puzzles. What's left? Not much. While Run Like Hell isn't quite "Throw your controller at the screen" awful, it's bad enough that there's really no reason anybody should even think about buying it. Until another worthwhile survival horror game makes its way to the Xbox, you'd be better off just playing Silent Hill again. This one should have stayed on the PS2.

Ninja Five-O is a surprisingly great game that almost came out of nowhere; Konami released this game as quiet as can be, with relatively no previous hype. The game harkens back to the days of Ninja arcade games, and even though it borrows its gameplay elements from previous designs, it's not a me-too Game boy Advance game. Since it's an original game with no license or previous title to bank on, chances are it'll be one of those games that'll just sit on store shelves...which is a shame because this is an exciting, fun and challenging action game that shouldn't be missed.
