So is Rally Trophy the equivalent of Grand Prix Legends? Probably not, but it is a superb game that offers an unusual alternative to the more technology packed offerings like McRae and Pro Rally. The faults are few and the game is so challenging that you're unlikely to finish it and discard it in a short time. Rally Trophy is a niche game that won't suit everyone's tastes, but neither was Grand Prix Legends and I hear that game did fairly well!

It's definitely thrilling to see such a small system push a game only the big boys have been able to push -- Doom on the Game Boy Advance is excellent fun that's hurt only by its unestablished multiplayer mode and its overall been-there-done-that feeling. The game does have some holes that needed filling during development, but even so, it's an absolute keeper for your GBA library.

And finally, yes, my opinion, which is what you've been reading about throughout this insanely long review. What do I think? Hm...Grand Theft Auto III? It's OK. Ha ha. Just kidding. Rockstar has been very gracious to us about covering its game exclusively, and if they hadn't ever been so nice to us, it would not have changed my mind about how I feel about the game. The game is absolutely, insanely good, and is truly one of the best titles of the year, on PlayStation 2, or on any system. Hm...sounds like I've been saying that a lot this year (Devil May Cry, Twisted Metal Black, Silent Hill 2); that's because unlike last year, this year, it's really happening. It's genuinely true. I never liked Grand Theft Auto 1 and 2 much because I got stuck up on little mechanical things, and I was never a big fan of the top-down approach. But with this game, with what DMA has done to it, I'm hard pressed to say that there's anything not entirely loveable about it. And guess what, DMA fixed even the slightest little disturbance I had with GTA1 and GTA2 (getting stuck in a car in a corner, only being able to get in or out from one side), among many other things it fixed for this last effort. The game is so big, so relentlessly deep, and so various, that gamers who buy it will easily -- easily -- be playing it for more than 50 hours the first time through. And that's not even getting every little last item. For that, I'd say it's at least about an 60-70 hour game. Grand Theft Auto III is a massive scale operation that just gets better and better as players dig into it, even though its gets ridiculously difficult at points. But that's the thing, it does get difficult, but the multitude of reasons to keep playing, to feel utterly engaged, perhaps should I say...even addicted...is so powerful that only sleep and my lovely wife could possibly get in the way of an overnighter (or four) with Grand Theft Auto III.

The biggest problem with NASCAR Thunder 2002 is that it's a NASCAR game. And before you NASCAR fans try to lynch me for this, please here me out. Racing on ovals just doesn't appeal to everyone and most casual gamers won't ever really see the little nuisances going from track to track and won't see the depth and skill involved in these races, as factors such as drafting, adjusting your car different from track to track, and learning how to take each left turn at the highest rate of speed without slamming into the wall won't be apparent for them. That said, this is one of the most enjoyable NASCAR racing games that I've ever played. As a simulation, it doesn't hold a candle to some of the games offered on the PC, but it makes up for it with its breadth of career mode features that help make it more than just a racing game, but a racing RPG of sorts. NASCAR fans won't want to pass this one up.

I commend Majesco and Shin'en for approaching a title such as Iridion 3D -- the game is, visually and aurally, one of the most impressive titles on the system. However, pretty pictures and an amazing soundtrack does not make a great game, and where this game falls apart is in its redundant and flat gameplay -- it's just not exciting to play. I think Shin'en is completely capable of pulling off wonders on the Game Boy Advance, but their first attempt at an original game design is just a little too weak for my tastes.

Test Drive Off-Road is not, and never has been, a complicated concept. You have big trucks, you have open space, and the race is on. All it ever needed was a decent engine to make it work, and Angel has finally supplied that after Infogrames cranked out three straight utterly worthless installments on the original PlayStation. As a result of that blessed simplicity, you should know immediately whether or not you want to play this game. If you want to race big trucks in open spaces, I can say with considerable surety that this is your ticket. This isn't a genre-breaker of any sort, though, and in a larger sense, it's just like most other Test Drive games: an effective racer, but not one that attempts to reach very far. Luckily, the creators of Wide Open didn't have very far to reach.
