Sólo unos cuantos juegos marcan una generación de consolas. Y Red Dead Redemption 2 acaba de marcar con hierro candente su nombre y el de RockStar Games en PlayStation 4 y Xbox One. Pocos juegos aparte de su excelsa jugabilidad te hacen quedarte absorto en el entorno dónde transcurre la acción, o te apabullan con una tras otra actividad durante horas sin dejarte respiro alguno. Es tanto, que llegado un punto quieres saber de una vez por todas cómo acaba la historia de Arthur y su banda que se desmorona por momentos. Sin lugar a dudas una banda de forajidos que son capaces con la ayuda de RockStar no sólo de asaltar nuestros bolsillos, sino también de asaltar nuestros corazones.

Red Dead Redemption 2 may not be perfect, but its minor shortcomings are like tiny blemishes on a stunningly beautiful face. In a way, they only serve as a reminder of how this world isn't made for perfection. Every single aspect of the game will put you into the very shoes of an outlaw roaming America with his gang as they try to escape the law long enough to make the money needed to disappear for good. It's an epic, memorable and engrossing tale which also elevates the open world genre to new heights with the brand new interaction system, a cast of unforgettable characters and a ton of high-quality content to play for a long time.

Chef-d’oeuvre ? Certainement pas, mais il y aura tout de même un avant et un après Red Dead Redemption 2. Titre à l’ambition démesurée et à la technique qui surclasse tout ce qui n’a jamais été fait dans le médium. En avance dans tant de domaines mais paradoxalement coincé en 2010 sur d’autres. D’une élégance folle dans sa mise en scène, son écriture, son acting, son sound design, il sacrifie pourtant ses envies de liberté contre l’appel du script. Résolument lent, avant tout contemplatif, on peut lui reprocher d’être aussi beau parleur que son antagoniste principal avec ses mécaniques poudre aux yeux. Red Dead Redemption 2 n’en reste pas moins un titre exceptionnel qui surprend par son orientation. Surement qu’il laissera beaucoup de monde à l’entrée de la gare, mais il marquera au fer rouge tous ceux qui resteront jusqu’au bout du voyage.

A much slower-paced affair than the madcap GTA Online, Red Dead Online is already loaded with activities and modes and provides a promising foundation for a long-lasting multiplayer experience. The PvP modes have a tendency to frustrate but the co-op shines, and Red Dead Online is expansive enough that you can ignore entire swathes of it and still have more than enough to keep you occupied. If you haven’t dipped in yet, round up some friends and saunter in. It’s well worth a visit.

Difficile de poser un verdict sur ce Red Dead Redemption 2, qui éblouit par sa réalisation, mais agace par son gameplay lent d’un autre âge, accouchant de mécaniques bâclées et d’une ergonomie infernale. N’attribuant pas de note aux tests, nous laisserons parler notre emoji avec un sourire en coin, mi-enjoué mi-déçu. Il ne nous reste que le plaisir de suivre cette bande de malfrats (masculins) à la personnalité bien trempée, écrits par des scénaristes (masculins) qui savent tenir une plume, jusqu’aux confins d’un monde en plein bouleversement. Rockstar Games est peut-être à l’image de ses héros : tranquillement installé dans sa tour d’ivoire, refuse-t-il d’embrasser la révolution qui s’installe jour après jour ? Tôt ou tard, l’immunité finira par tomber.
