Un buon videogioco di Mad Max, che mostra lampi di eccellenza ma non riesce a mantenersi su quei livelli nella sua interezza. L'ambientazione funziona, il design di molte missioni è valido, il sistema di gioco complessivo è ricco e ben strutturato e le fasi di guida sono molto divertenti. Di contro, la componente picchiaduro è dignitosa ma nulla più, le attività collaterali sulla distanza possono stancare e se non si struttura bene la propria partita c'è il rischio di incontrare un po' troppi “muri” lungo lo scorrere delle missioni principali. È sicuramente consigliato ai fan di Max Rockatanksy e ha il potenziale per un seguito travolgente.

Mad Max procure de véritables frissons dans un monde dégoûtant et dépravé. C’est un lieu conflictuel plein de désespoir, un terrain de jeu bien à vous plein d'action explosive qui propose une progression infinie dans laquelle j'ai hâte de retourner pour poursuivre mon incroyable voyage.

Mad Max è un gioco di alti e bassi. Da una parte abbiamo una caratterizzazione di ambientazioni, personaggi e veicoli incredibile, che farà perdere la testa a tutti gli amanti della saga di Miller. Dall'altra, purtroppo, è un gioco poco originale come gameplay, azzoppato da meccaniche ripetitive e poca fantasia. Un peccato perché, a conti fatti, sarebbe potuto essere molto più del buon gioco che è.

Konzentriert man sich im offenen postapokalyptischen Ödland auf die wesentlichen Story- und Nebenmissionen, erlebt man mit Mad Max eine gut geschriebene und den Originalen Tribut zollende Geschichte mit einigen denkwürdigen Momenten. Doch leider hat Avalanche es nicht geschafft, der Umgebung ausreichend Charakter zu verleihen, damit sie für sich alleine besteht und zum Er-Fahren lockt. Ja: Die Kulisse ist stimmungsvoll gestaltet und überzeugt mit wuchtigen Explosionen, schicken Stürmen sowie dynamisch wechselnder Farbgebung. Doch es fehlt ihr die Einbindung in die Geschichte, um die Spielwelt zu einem homogenen Ganzen zu machen. Die Nebenmissionen sind hier nur Stückwerk, dem es an Abwechslung fehlt. Da sind Titel mit ähnlichen Ansätzen wie Assassin’s Creed oder Batman Arkham City weiter – von The Witcher 3 ganz zu schweigen, bei dem triviale Aufgaben immer wieder wie kleine Minikampagnen wirken. Bei der Action hingegen legen sich Max und Avalanche ins Zeug: Brachiale Nahkämpfe und explosive Fahrzeugduelle sind immer wieder ein Vergnügen, würden aber auch von etwas mehr Abwechslung profitieren. Auch wenn nicht alle Hoffnungen und Wünsche erfüllt werden und auch wenn nicht alles Potenzial ausgeschöpft wird, ist es den Schweden gelungen, dem von Mel Gibson und George Miller begründeten Endzeit-Mythos ein unterhaltsames Spieledenkmal zu bauen.

Bien que répétitif sur certains points, Mad Max sait compenser avec une ambiance générale au top, un gameplay aux petits oignons et une direction artistique de grande qualité. Le scénario un peu en retrait suit finalement le même défaut que l’on reprochait à Fury Road, l’histoire aurait clairement pu être mieux mise en avant ici et les quelques déséquilibres techniques viennent entacher sa sortie. Mais soit, le soft sait clairement se faire pardonner avec ces autres qualités. Magnifique, jouissif, Mad Max a tout pour plaire et s’annonce comme un incontournable de la rentrée.

S'inspirant fortement de séries ayant fait leurs preuves (Assassin's Creed, Batman Arkham, Far Cry), Mad Max n'entend nullement réinventer la roue. L'idée est ici de proposer aux fans un jeu distillant une atmosphère à la mesure de nos attentes. Et pour le coup, c'est plutôt réussi puisque le titre s'offre quelques superbes panoramas et une conduite nerveuse associée à des affrontements de la route brutaux. De plus, avec un aspect customisation extrêmement poussé, on ne se fera pas prier pour profiter du travail d'Avalanche Studios d'autant que le gameplay, sans être parfait, remplit bien son office. Globalement, c'est donc un bon jeu que nous offrent les développeurs suédois même si on aurait aimé des missions bien plus variées afin d'éviter le gros sentiment de répétition apparaissant après une dizaine d'heures. Pour autant, Mad Max s'en sort fort convenablement et bien qu'il lui manque un peu de ci et un peu de ça, le résultat demeure hautement recommandable.

Mad Max seemingly had it all but ultimately stumbles in the worst way possible - by not presenting enough interesting things to in its open world. Side mission and story quest design aside, there's a whole of repetition and not a lot of substance to the game's madness. Good for the odd casual playthrough but imminently forgettable.

While Mad Max avoids being the disaster that the development hell storylines surrounding it suggest that it could have been, it's an absolute testament to mediocrity. Its characters and the world itself provide a great deal of intrigue, and they will keep some players interested, but there are too many flaws to consider it a solid video game. From its bland quests and progress gating to the fact that it uses a weak clone of the standard Arkham combat system, Mad Max feels like a AAA studio attempted to make a AAA video game and nothing more. For this particular game to have truly shined, we would have needed to see a much better narrative and a more varied set of missions. Unfortunately for gamers far and wide, Mad Max is far more likely to frustrate than entertain.
