The Surge 2 es esa clase de juego en el que somos plenamente conscientes de todos sus problemas... Y aun así disfrutamos de una forma que roza lo obsceno. Una vez que empezamos a trinchar enemigos para vestirnos con sus extremidades, tendrían que cortarnos las manos para soltar el mando.

C’è poco da aggiungere: il piccolo team di Francoforte (una volta almeno, dato che oggi conta oltre 70 dipendenti) ha fatto tesoro delle critiche mosse verso il primo The Surge ed è subito corso ai ripari, impacchettando un sequel davvero degno di tale nome: anche se qualcuno dei fan più accaniti potrà lamentare un livello di difficoltà più ragionevole, si tratta di un compromesso accettabile se consideriamo la ricchezza di ambientazioni e di trovate ingegnose che trapelano da ogni singolo poligono. Naturalmente, c’è ancora ampio margine per migliorare, incorporando ad esempio una maggiore varietà di avversari negli eventuali capitoli successivi o studiando qualche boss più fantasioso e meno prevedibile ma, anche così com’è, The Surge 2 è riuscito a catturare la mia attenzione senza mollare il colpo fino in fondo, e sono certo che farà altrettanto con qualsiasi estimatore dei soulslike. Chapeau, Deck13!

Cuesta no pasarlo bien con las emocionantes batallas en las que te sumerge The Surge; un notable juego de acción y rol que mejora lo visto en la entrega original. Aún le falta algo más de fluidez en el combate y mejores diseños de enemigos y escenarios para alcanzar la excelencia, pero paso a paso, siguiendo su propio camino, Deck 13 ha creado una gran alternativa a los principales referentes de la acción y rol.

En general mejora la fórmula de su predecesor manteniendo la personalización y el sistema tan novedoso de saqueo. La jugabilidad del combate es más fluido y menos ortopédico aunque en ciertos momentos haya movimientos demasiado rápidos o hitbox exageradas. Los gráficos no mejoran en demasía, aunque el diseño en general es mucho menos industrial y más apocalíptico, además de una variedad más amplia y abierta en los escenarios. Flojea en el tema técnico, aunque tengamos fe en que arreglaran estos problemas en algunos parches. En esencia es más atractivo y rejugable que la primera parte.

The Surge 2 es un juego que, pese a sus pequeñas carencias, me ha dejado un buen sabor de boca. La historia, aunque demasiado predecible y arquetípica en ocasiones, acaba enganchando. Las mecánicas están bien construidas, y es muy interesante el poder seleccionar la parte del cuerpo del rival a la que queremos apuntar, le da un toque de profundidad muy interesante (aunque obviamente, esta mecánica ya estaba en el primer juego). La manera en la que está conectado el escenario me ha gustado mucho. Soy la clase de jugador que explora hasta el último recoveco, y encontrar un camino y pensar: “Esto es un atajo”, es de las mejores sensaciones que hay. Si te gustan los RPG de acción y eres fan de la ciencia ficción, aquí tienes un buen puñado de horas de entretenimiento.

The Surge 2 s'inscrit dans une belle continuité des bases établies par son prédécesseur. Plus nerveux, plus intense, un peu plus varié, et toujours aussi brutal, le titre de Deck 13 a consolidé les forces de son premier jet sans pour autant évoluer autant qu'on l'aurait voulu. Avec des boss plus nombreux certes, mais assez anecdotiques pour la plupart, son univers plus varié et son gameplay offensif largement peaufiné, The Surge 2 pêche encore par sa caméra capricieuse, son scénario en retrait et l'homogénéité de ses environnements. S'il n'est clairement pas une révolution face à la concurrence, il ne le prétend pas, manifestement, il reste une expérience toujours aussi rafraîchissante et gavée de challenge, que les fans des From Software devraient considérer, que les amoureux du premier épisode devraient aimer et que les plus curieux devraient essayer. Une bonne consolidation, sans révolution.

The Surge 2 riprende da dove si è interrotto il precedente e compie notevoli passi avanti sia in termini di qualità sia di esecuzione. Se avete apprezzato l’originale, sarà come tornare a casa dopo una lunga assenza, ma anche per chi non lo conosce, e nonostante permangano alcuni difetti, è un’esperienza che vale la pena di essere giocata e nell’ambito della science fiction è probabilmente il miglior action-RPG in circolazione. Non rivoluziona certo il genere ma rafforza le sue già buone basi di partenza, dimostrando la volontà di Deck 13 di padroneggiare la loro formula con risultati niente male.

The Surge 2 è quel passo in avanti che aspettava soprattutto chi, nonostante tutto, era riuscito ad apprezzare particolarmente il primo capitolo. L’aver seguito i suggerimenti degli utenti e corretto alcune delle criticità ha permesso a Deck 13 di sviluppare un seguito ideale che tira dal cilindro alcune buone idee, ne ricicla di altre ed eredita le stesse imperfezioni del passato. Di ampiamente positivo c’è che The Surge 2 espande quelli che erano i punti del primo capitolo, forte di un combat system ancora fresco e nuovi contenuti tra cui un numero maggiore di boss, con questi che tuttavia non riescono a rendersi memorabile come accade in altre produzioni, lo stesso dicasi per il level design ancora poco decifrabile in alcuni punti e non sempre eccellente in altri. Il risultato finale è un soulslike che ancora una volta si differenzia dagli altri esponenti della categoria, ma rimane ben al di sotto dei grandi nomi per via standard qualitativi buoni anche se non eccezionali. Al di là di questo, The Surge 2 è un’esperienza hardcore che diverte e tiene impegnati per un discreto numero di ore, in attesa di eventuali DLC che ci riporteranno nuovamente tra le strade di Jericho City.

The Surge 2 manages to recapture a lot of what made the original Souls-style sci-fi adventure fun, even improving on its already-solid combat and gear grind in several meaningful ways, from the added variety of weapons and enemies to the simple but oh-so-welcome ability to build multiple equipment loadouts. It’s missteps, however, made the sequel an overall lesser game than the original: uninspired environmental design and overly ambitious story choices rob it of the same level of satisfaction, even with the mechanical improvements. That said, if you're just here to chop dudes in robot suits in half as you grind up to the next power bracket or craft another piece of gear made out of severed arms, you're probably gonna have a great time. Either way you'll likely still have a good time, but will probably spend most of your playthrough fondly remembering your first time.

The Surge 2 migliora alcuni aspetti del primo episodio ma ne peggiora inspiegabilmente altri, compiendo un clamoroso passo falso nel passaggio alla mappa cittadina e finendo per soccombere sotto i colpi di un comparto tecnico molto datato e artisticamente poco ispirato. La formula dei soulslike viene impiegata in maniera tradizionale e i suoi meccanismi funzionano anche in questo caso, complice una gran quantità di nemici differenti e dotati di pattern variegati, nonché un sistema di crafting e potenziamento interessante e ben studiato. Pur nella loro eccessiva crudeltà, e al netto di qualche incertezza, i combattimenti di questo nuovo titolo targato Deck13 funzionano, coinvolgono e rendono molto bene gli impatti: se è solo questo che chiedete a un action RPG del genere, allora vale la pena di staccare un biglietto per Jericho City. Attenzione, però: questo nuovo viaggio nel curioso immaginario sci-fi di The Surge potrebbe farvi rimpiangere il capitolo originale.

Many of the original game's problems are still here, but small quality of life improvements and a neat new setting make this outing just different enough to be worth a look.

The Surge 2 avrebbe potuto rappresentare il salto di qualità che il team tedesco meritava dopo le discrete prove con Lords of the Fallen e con l'avventura di Warren, ma si rivela solo un dignitoso sequel del suo predecessore. Ingigantendo la formula del primo The Surge, Deck 13 realizza un combat system molto variegato, sorretto da una personalizzazione assai stratificata, ma arranca nella gestione delle hitbox e nella costruzione scenica. Il lavoro svolto dallo studio di sviluppo non è pigro né svogliato, però si dimostra abbastanza raffazzonato e poco rifinito, incapace dunque di ambire a vette più elevate. Se avete amato lo scorso episodio, pur con tutti i suoi difetti, date comunque una chance anche al suo sequel diretto: vi ritroverete a vagare in un mondo dove potrebbe valere la pena assaporare il gusto del ferro e della morte.
