On a fait le tour du propriétaire et en définitive, Amplitude HD est-il un remake travaillé d’arrache pied ? Définitivement, oui ! Avec une interface repensée et un gameplay qui fait encore et toujours ses preuves avec quelques petites retouches plaisantes, Amplitude HD devrait combler sans aucun doute les bons petits amateurs de jeux de rythme. Alors bon, c’est vrai que pour 19.99 €, ça reste cher payé au vu du contenu famélique – seulement 20 petites chansons à tout casser en sachant qu’il faut en débloquer quelques unes… -, mais la refonte graphique, l’univers ou bien encore le fait de pouvoir jouer jusqu’à 4 joueurs en multijoueur local, vous pouvez vous laisser tenter malgré tout, sauf si vous n’aimez pas forcément l’électro…

Un juego rítmico de 'esos' sin guitarra de plástico, que consigue meternos de lleno en la composición de más de 30 piezas diferentes, permitiéndonos vivir la música de una manera mucho más videojueguil e interactiva. Sí, esto es precisamente lo que hizo bien hace más de una década el Amplitude original, un título que muchos recuerdan con cariño y que destacaba, entre otras cosas, por su variado repertorio musical. Esto es precisamente lo que pierde en esta ocasión, dejando los temas licenciados a un lado y centrándose en la música electrónica original o de autores menos conocidos. Si a esto le unimos que en lo referente a los modos de juego tampoco va demasiado sobrado, el resultado es un título divertido, pero que no alcanza las cotas de excelencia que se le esperaban en un principio.

Amplitude cattura gli appassionati di Rhythm Game oggi come nel 2003. Senza costringere l'utente ad acquistare repliche più o meno fedeli di batterie e chitarre, il gioco si riscopre divertente e "trascinante": il gameplay sfrutta appena tre tasti del pad, ma al giocatore sono richiesti impegno e senso del ritmo, coordinazione ed elaborati funambolismi digitali. Amplitude è un esponente del genere che fa "storia a sé" anche per quella che è la selezione musicale, fatta di tracce eterogenee e non tradizionali, molte delle quali "costruite" esplicitamente da team di sviluppo per sposare le atmosfere sinestetiche che rendono così peculiare il gioco. Purtroppo la curva di difficoltà è molto ripida, ed il passaggio dal livello Intermedio a quello Avanzato catapulta il giocatore da un contesto di spossante rilassatezza ad uno di caotico affanno. Riuscendo a superare indenni questo problematico "scalino", si vedrà la faccia migliore della produzione, perfetta per il mercato digitale ma difficilmente in grado di rivaleggiare, in termini di tenuta, con colleghi dalla tracklist ben più corposa. Le modalità multiplayer, cooperative e competitive, sono purtroppo un'aggiunta molto blanda e non troppo convincente: Amplitude resta godibile soprattutto in solitaria.

Harmonix ha ridato vita a un gioco del passato e lo ha fatto pensando principalmente ai fan della prima ora. Amplitude su PS4 è un buon gioco musicale, ancora più rigoroso rispetto alla controparte di oltre dieci anni fa: nemmeno una concessione al rock/pop, attenzione totale all'elettronica più pura. Ma spesso si ha la sensazione di inseguire la musica, più che di "costruirla" e i primi due livelli di difficoltà sono troppo morbidi. Chi vuole perdersi nei suoi panorami e nei suoi BPM ipnotici, comunque, troverà pane per i suoi denti.

Despite its improved HD veneer and tweaked controls, I just didn’t find the Amplitude of 2016 to be as addictive or long-lasting an experience as the Amplitude of 2003. I had some fun with it for as long as it took to play through its hypnotic campaign and unlock all its tracks in the quickplay mode, but the samey soundtrack and meagre selection of modes meant that I had little motivation to return to it thereafter. Committed high score-chasers will probably stick around in an effort to top the online leaderboards since the challenge is most certainly still there, but for everyone else Amplitude will likely feel like a commendable cover of a classic, but a mere cover all the same.

Amplitude is a game trapped in the PS2's past but brought back through the developers' passion. There really isn't any innovation in this version, but it's not expensive so a lot can be overlooked. This game works best at a college dorm party or somewhere with lots of friends. But there's little more to do once everyone has gone home.

If you’ve wanted to play another Amplitude game for the past generation, then this is going to scratch your itch and then some. Harmonix has delivered a reboot that perfectly captures the spirit and rock solid mechanics of the original, which is something that should be commended. The issues here revolve around the fact that this game, perhaps more than any other rhythm title in memory, inspires players to crave DLC due to its relatively shallow track list and its content-light package. Make no mistake, the core gameplay here is worth the price of admission alone, but if you’re looking for a music title that will last you for months to come, then you’re going to have to venture into the plastic instrument sector. Maybe this is simply a launching point for the ultimate Amplitude game that will blow us all away. Instead, what we have is a solid palette cleanser that will ultimately inspire palpable feelings of nostalgia and wonder for a fleeting moment.
