While the locked-in 30 FPS might be a dealbreaker for some, the flawless co-op experience Gotham Knights provides is an amazing time for those who want to fight crime with friends. A fully immersive Gotham City for you to travel in your way, either straight through the story, or complete every side mission you can; your time in Gotham is up to you.

Gotham Knights, orphelin de la figure iconique de Batman, reprend le flambeau avec panache. Nos héros font honneur au Chevalier Noir le temps d’une aventure grisante inspirée des comic books. La ville de Gotham, plus sombre que jamais, les combats techniques et nerveux, et la complémentarité des quatres justiciers soufflent un vent de fraîcheur super-héroïque sur l’univers de Batman. Sans être parfait avec ses défauts de caméra et ses missions parfois redondantes, le titre de Warner Games frappe fort et prouve que Batman n’est pas le seul héros digne de ce nom à Gotham.

Gotham Knights Gotham Knights è un titolo che probabilmente senza la pesante eredità lasciata dal Batman: Arkham Knight, sarebbe risultato più godibile e ben fatto. Questo dovuto ad una realizzazione tecnica non eccelsa per i tempi e le piattaforme che corrono, nonché ad un combattimento che avrebbe dovuto risultare un perfezionamento di quello del suo predecessore, piuttosto che quasi un passo indietro in termini di fluidità ed adrenalina. Perso l'impareggiabile carisma di Batman, ma guadagnata la varietà caratteriale e tecnica dei nuovi quattro protagonisti, la produzione di WB Games Montréal offre comunque una Gotham piena di cose da fare. Customizzazione molto divertente dei personaggi, Villain efferatamente stravaganti, contribuiscono a far crescere il monte ore fino all'end game in maniera quasi sempre piacevole ed appagante. Gotham Knights è sicuramente un passo nella giusta direzione per Warner Bros Games Montréal, e getta delle solide fondamenta per quello che potrebbe essere il punto di partenza di una nuova serie. La storia è basata su un pretesto ancora inedito negli adattamenti videoludici dedicati al Cavaliere Oscuro e tiene alta l'attenzione per la sua intera durata, salvo poi perdersi nel finale a causa di qualche ingenuità narrativa di troppo. Il gameplay, nonostante le perplessità iniziali, si è rivelato divertente in singolo e in co-op, e l'assetto ruolistico è stato integrato con attenzione, la stessa che forse avrebbe meritato un comparto tecnico con qualche criticità di troppo. Nonostante i problemi, Gotham Knights rimane un'esperienza consigliata a tutti i fan del genere, soprattutto quelli che intendono vivere l'avventura in compagnia di un amico.

Gotham Knights offre un'esperienza action RPG a base open world che farà impazzire i fan dei personaggi DC, pur poggiando su presupposti narrativi controversi: esistono due universi videoludici in casa Warner Bros., ma in nessuno di essi Batman è vivo. Superato questo scoglio, la storia si rivela godibile e i personaggi ben scritti, il sistema di combattimento è un derivato del freeflow focalizzato sulle abilità e sulle peculiarità dei singoli eroi, la cooperativa diverte ma non appare imprescindibile. Ci sono tanti nemici e ottimi boss fight, nell'ambito di una struttura che sul fronte delle attività appare piuttosto tradizionale ma ricca di contenuti. Visivamente il gioco è uno spettacolo ma quando si muove barcolla, tradendo una serie di scelte tecniche che definire discutibili è poco: che peccato.

Como también lo están los elementos RPG sin sentido y las listas de objetivos interminables propias de un MMO. Gotham Knights, dicevamo poco sopra, è un po’ come la metropoli in cui è ambientato: bello, ma con qualche problematica tutt’altro che secondaria. Il gioco è divertente e non mancherà di appassionare i fan dei supereroi DC, ma bisogna accettare qualche compromesso. Graficamente si presenta bene, ma paga lo scotto dei 30fps che, soprattutto in alcune situazioni, rende difficile tenere sotto controllo l’azione. Il combat system è lo stesso degli Arkham di Rocksteady e si diversifica effettivamente attraverso i quattro personaggi di cui potrete vestire i panni, ma ogni tanto si perde qualche input. La città è bellissima da vedere e custodisce molti segreti, missioni secondarie, sbloccabili, ma il rampino ogni tanto manca il bersaglio, mentre la Batcycle non regala alcuna emozione, solo tanta noia. Trama e personalizzazione di Batgirl, Nightwing, Cappuccio Rosso e Robin invece, convincono appieno. Soprattutto giocare con i potenziamenti e l’estetica delle tute degli eroi regalerà tanta gioia ai fan di lungo corso. Gotham Knights, in sostanza, è un titolo consigliatissimo ai fan della Batfamiglia. Gli altri, o chi semplicemente sperava di ritrovare la stessa magia dei vecchi Arkham, resteranno lievemente delusi, pur trattandosi di un gioco divertente e più che solido, per quanto imperfetto.

Gotham Knights è l’esperimento di Warner Bros Games per portare anche i supereroi DC sul territorio dell’open world RPG. Considerato il retaggio della gloriosa serie di Arkham, tuttavia, il risultato è un’opera abbastanza controversa: un parco giochi digitale per chi vive di fumetti di Batman e un buon sistema di diversificazione per i quattro eroi giocabili non giustificano pienamente una formula in cui la quantità sovrasta la qualità. Il mondo aperto che fa da teatro alle peripezie di Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin e Cappuccio Rosso è tradizionale e ripetitivo, mentre l’afflato ruolistico - per quanto stimolante a livello di progressione - diventa fin troppo soverchiante per il ritmo narrativo e ludico della produzione. In generale, le maggiori divergenze rispetto all’epopea di Arkham risultano in parte il principale limite dell’opera. Pur divertendo, i Cavalieri di Gotham non sembrano ancora al livello del loro mentore...

Gotham Knights is the type of game you so dearly want to love, but time and time again it gives you a reason not to. What Warner Bros. Games Montreal has here is an excellent story with top-notch cutscene direction and a fun combat system, with too many needless and confusing mechanics bolted on top. If you can look past them, there's a genuinely great game here. We recommend trying your best to do so; you'll find a compelling narrative on the other side.

Nul doute que Warner Bros Montréal tient à lancer une nouvelle série avec ce Gotham Knights. Ce « premier épisode » instaure ce qui pourra être la menace sur le long terme des nouveaux chevaliers noirs de Gotham. Néanmoins, en cherchant à faire page neuve de l'ère Batman, Warner se noie dans un torrent d'incohérence qui fera grincer chacune des dents des fans de l'univers des comics. De même le titre ne va au bout de pratiquement aucun concept qui aurait clairement ajouté plus de densité au titre qui vous demandera une trentaine d'heures. La Cour des Hiboux est au final réduite à une simple menace à la limite du caricatural et n'est au final pas le véritable danger de ce titre. Sauver par une coop qui décuple le plaisir (et l'intérêt) du jeu, on garde comme un goût de jeu service non assumé à de nombreux moments durant notre progression. Gotham Knights est agréable pour celles et ceux n'ayant pas déjà saturé des titres open world à la sauce Creed. La touche DC ajoutera évidemment un peu de plaisir aux fans, mais force est de constater que Gotham Knights aurait pu être bien plus.

Warner Bros. Montreal took a giant risk with Gotham Knights. Not only did the studio choose to forgo using one of the world’s most famous heroes, but also the top-rated Arkham series. What we have with Gotham Knights is an original setup filled with a great central cast and an intriguing tale of young sidekicks uncovering Gotham’s dark secrets and becoming knights themselves. When Gotham Knights works, it works well enough. The Court of Owls is a menacing enough foe and establishes the more interesting plot threads before the carpet is yanked out from under their feet and they’re replaced with a more generic, familiar villain. Combat is clunky and progression unnatural, but the unique playstyles of the four characters combined with a well-integrated gear system offer plenty of fun. It’s just unfortunate that the poor AI and camera take away from that combat. The game features a presentation that looks good, though generic, complete with performance issues. Gotham Knights has its moments of brilliance and fun, but never manages to step out of Batman’s looming shadow. These knights are more than sidekicks, they just aren’t heroes quite yet.

Gotham Knights is a consistently disappointing return to Batman’s troubled city and a distinct step backwards from the past decade-plus of Batman games. Even if running around Gotham in two-player co-op can be decent fun and each of the four playable crime fighters are well executed in their dialogue and distinctive moves, too many of the fundamentals fall short for me to recommend it. From the inconsistent frame rates, to the weak story, to one-note combat that rarely feels good, there was virtually always something going wrong to make sure I wasn’t experiencing the triumphant return with my friends at my side I had envisioned.

Gotham Knights n'était pas sorti qu'il décevait déjà et ce test ne fait que confirmer les craintes des fans, c'est un énorme gâchis. Une franchise forte, le concept audacieux de créer un Gotham sans Batman, une ambition louable de rendre le jeu exclusif aux console de dernière génération, sur le papier ce jeu avait tout pour séduire. Malheureusement, le résultat n'y est pas, tant sur la forme que sur le fond.
