Si les jeux de tactique stratégie tour par tour sont légion depuis quelques années, Hard West réussi clairement son coup de poker en se mesurant à des titres déjà bien implantés dans leur domaine. L'ambiance malsaine, intrigante, démoniaque du titre, des scénarios qui vous emmènent dans un Far West sanglant, le tout saupoudré de nombreuses idées innovantes comme la possibilité de faire des ricochets avec vos balles en utilisant le décor pour atteindre des adversaires pourtant cachés rendent l'ensemble formidablement bien réussi. On notera, hélas, une intelligence artificielle parfois stupide et un manque de diversité au niveau du bestiaire, mais les amateurs de tactique stratégie au tour par tour trouveront dans Hard West un titre diaboliquement captivant !

If everything about Hard West was as great as its combat and strategic layer, it would easily sit near the top of a list of memorable Old West-themed games. Take away the cowboy costumes and it’s still an excellent turn-based game with some clever mechanics to mess with. A kind of bland overworld game experience combined with a hokey story arc bring Hard West down just a couple of notches. Still, it’s a Western, and a great turn based strategy game, and we need more of both.

Depending on the tactical depth you want to approach, the title can take dozens of hours to complete, so you do get a lot of content for what you pay. In the end, Hard West is a solid tactics game set in the wild west.

Hard West è un titolo Western affascinante, con una narrazione stuzzicante, forse a tratti un po'troppo criptica, ma comunque capace di sondare un ricca costellazione di tematiche intrise di sofferenza, violenza e superstizione. Certo, l'assenza di un budget sostanzioso trasuda chiaramente attraverso un gameplay che sa di già visto, e un comparto tecnico che non cerca certo di sorprendere il giocatore. Tuttavia, guardando anche alla desolazione disarmante del genere Western in campo videoludico (dopotutto di titoli del calibro di Red Dead Redemption ne vengono prodotti uno ogni dieci anni), Hard West potrebbe rappresentare un'interessante proposta per tutti gli appassionati del Selvaggio West, e anche per coloro che apprezzano i titoli strategici a turno alla X-COM.

It’s hard to deny the charm and wonderful atmosphere which so warmly embraces this unique subgenre title. There are some good moments in Hard West, but the overworld struggles with lifeless text-based action and the gunfights lean more toward frustrating than tension-filled.

Hard West has a strong concept and is fun for a while, but because the core gameplay soon becomes monotonous, along with having some awful overworld segments, the game is difficult to recommend.
