Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time è pensato naturalmente per i fan della serie, ma si mostra adatto anche per tutti i nuovi arrivati. Le sue meccaniche si incontrano tra il JRPG e il picchiaduro a scorrimento, in un mix semplificato e raramente in grado di proporre sfide interessanti, ma comunque fresco, immediato e divertente. Il titolo è stato realizzato con estrema cura, e restituisce perfettamente le atmosfere, i personaggi e le situazioni di Little Witch Academia: con questo punto di partenza siamo davvero curiosi di scoprire se e come si evolverà l'offerta in vista di un possibile secondo capitolo... magari la prossima volta potremo impersonare anche Lady Chariot?

Little Witch Academia: Chambers of Time è stata una piacevolissima sorpresa soprattutto per chi, come me, non conosceva prima di oggi la serie animata: la storia inizia con frivolezza leggera leggera, uno spirito che non abbandona mai il gioco anche se non mancano aspetti complessi e, per così dire, drammatici. E la stessa “filosofia” contraddistingue gli aspetti prettamente videoludici facendone un gioco di ruolo discretamente divertente e stimolante, nonostante si possa avvertire un po’ di monotonia, soprattutto nelle fasi action. Un must per tutti i fan della serie, un titolo da provare da tutto coloro che apprezzano questo genere di videogames.

With how popular anime has become in recent years, it’s all too common for developers to push out some cheap game relying on the source material’s popularity for quick money. This was the fear I had with Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time and I was wrong. There are some flaws, but the most important aspect — the franchise’s ethos — is fully intact and on full display, permeating every inch of this game. That said, this is still a game utilizing the “Little Witch Academia” IP, so while fans will be left spellbound, those unreceptive to the format will likely pass this up. To them, all I can say is that this is still a good beat ‘em up. If you’ve been looking forward to a new age beat ‘em up and refuse to pick up Dragon’s Crown Pro, then why not try out this pretty little number? You might just become a fan yourself.

While not without some criticism, Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time is an enjoyable experience. The time spent running to random points of the academy in order to advance the story could have benefited by being more streamlined to feel less monotonous and the map system could use some tweaking, but the game is entertaining past those shortcomings. The dialogue sequences themselves are pleasant, the story is interesting and the action sequences are at the perfect level of action where there is a lot going on but it never gets too busy where the player is trying to figure out what exactly is happening Licensing an anime into a game is always risky, as any fan of Dragon Ball and Sword Art Online can attest to, but thankfully for Little Witch Academia fans, their first game is one that’s worth playing. If the developers keep the basic formula intact and streamline some of the issues that held this title back from true greatness, there’s a lot of potential for more games from this franchise.

In definitiva, il titolo non è promosso né bocciato: rimane un po’ nel limbo, come succede alla protagonista del titolo, ed ottiene un voto un po’ generoso unicamente perché ogni piccola briciola di magia ha sempre il suo fascino.

Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time è, in conclusione, un’altalena costante. Mentre nella narrazione e nel lato tecnico abbiamo un’ottima fattura che tiene fede allo spirito della produzione animata, il gameplay sembra essere costellato di decisioni che ne inficiano la godibilità. I costanti limiti di tempo, i cali di frame rate e il confuso sistema di combattimento affossano quanto c’è di buono nelle profonde meccaniche da RPG. I fan troveranno sicuramente conforto nelle moltissime qualità del lavoro di fino fatto dal team di sviluppo e da Studio Trigger, ma il resto dei giocatori potrebbe rimanere scoraggiato da quanto sottolineato nell’analisi di cui sopra. Tuttavia, se si è disposti a vivere in leggerezza le avventure di Akko e compagne, ci si sentirà davvero immersi nel magico mondo di Little Witch Academia.

With its charming characters and engaging story, Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time could have been so much more. Sadly, the dungeon crawling experience is damaged by bad enemy AI, clunky controls and a terrible performance that make the experience very unpleasant. The game does have some interesting features and mechanics, as well as a well-done presentation, but they're not enough to make the game a must-have for those who aren't fans of the anime.

Sulla scia di un anime di discreto successo, Bandai Namco porta su PS4 e PC un tie-in degno della produzione di partenza. Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time sembra quasi un OVA in formato interattivo, che racconta una storia ambientata durante gli avvenimenti della serie animata: tutti i fan del lavoro dello studio Trigger potranno apprezzarlo principalmente per il suo elegante fan service, chiudendo un occhio sulle evidenti ed ingenue mancanze di tipo ludico. Chamber of Time è infatti un dungeon crawler di stampo ruolistico con buone frecce al suo arco, scorrevole e leggero, ma molto rigido nella struttura e decisamente elementare nella costruzione del gameplay. Un’opera, insomma, che vive di alti e bassi e che, per ambire a risultati un po’ più elevati, avrebbe solo dovuto credere - un po’ come Akko - maggiormente in se stessa.

Ce Little Witch Academia : Chamber of Time nous laisse un arrière goût de déception. Pourtant très fidèle à la série lorsqu'il s'agit de dépeindre son casting haut en couleur de sorcières et de péripéties magiques, le titre peine en revanche à convaincre sur ses aspects purement ludiques. Les multiples aller-retours dans les dédales de l'académie souffrent de mauvais choix de game design, d'un gameplay répétitif et d'un manque global de diversité. Même chose pour la partie donjons qui, faute de réelle inventivité, s'embourbe dans la même liste de défauts. On aurait aimé pouvoir remonter le temps une fois de plus afin d'éviter la catastrophe…

Malgré quelques bonnes idées et un concept qui aurait pu être accrocheur, Little Witch Academia : Chamber of Time peine clairement à garder le joueur impliqué. Bandai Namco nous prouve une nouvelle fois qu’adapter à tout bout de champ des animes est surtout une question d’opportunisme et non une volonté de combler les fans avec des productions loin d’être abouties. Au moins, Chamber of Time peut se targuer d’être fidèle à l’oeuvre originale et d’essayer de proposer un concept sympathique.
