Casi sin hacer ruido y sin levantar una gran expectación, Soul Hackers 2 se destapa como una de las grandes sorpresas de la temporada en materia JRPG. Tomando como modelo la saga Shin Megami Tensei, este spin-off nos sumerge en una aventura maravillosamente representada en todos sus aspectos, desde los personajes a la narrativa o su apartado estético. Una producción que además tiene el detalle de haber llegado subtitulada al español y que posee una extensión considerable. Un título más que atractivo a poco que te interese el género del rol.

ATLUS è riuscita a sorprenderci un’altra volta. Attingendo a un sistema ibrido tra Shin Megami Tensei e Persona, lo studio ha confezionato un’esperienza ruolistica articolata e galvanizzante, che nulla ha da invidiare ai migliori JRPG degli ultimi anni. Se la Tregenda si è rivelata un’eccellente alternativa agli ormai classici All-Out-Attack, impreziosendo e rinnovando un sistema di combattimento già articolato e profondo come il “Press Turn” System, la Ricognizione Demoniaca ha invece saputo snellire notevolmente la componente esplorativa, nonché la raccolta di fondi, materiali e il reclutamento di nuovi Demoni. Per il rovescio della medaglia, la natura cross-gen e una direzione artistica disorganica hanno impedito al prodotto di puntare all’eccellenza, dimostrando ancora una volta quanto ATLUS debba migliorare sul fronte grafico e prestazionale. In definitiva Soul Hackers 2 potrà non essere il nuovo Persona 5, ma va più che bene così.

Soul Hackers 2 plantea poquita cosa, pero lo hace muy bien la mayor parte del tiempo. Como fan de SMT, soy más crítico con cosas como la historia o el tono del juego, pero eso no invalida el hecho de que estemos ante un JRPG con elementos sobresalientes como sus combates o su progresión.

Soul Hackers 2 does an commendable job of presenting another solid JRPG experience, albeit one that suffers from a lack of quality and variety in areas where it could have been bolder in its execution. A sense of similarity aside, it’s still a worthwhile story to follow and fans of the franchise will find more than enough to keep them happy, even if there aren’t quite enough new and fresh ideas here to set it apart from the pack. The Persona shadow continues to hover over the rest of the Atlus stable, and it remains a high-quality ceiling to beat.

È paradossale che in un videogioco di Atlus, uno dei principali problemi sia legato alla mancanza di contenuti originali. Eppure Soul Hackers 2 ha indubbiamente problemi di ripetitività, sia nel gameplay che nella struttura delle missioni, e ricicla spesso elementi e meccaniche senza fare uno sforzo per introdurre qualcosa di nuovo. Nonostante il suo serio problema di identità, che forse avrebbe potuto essere risolto con qualche ora di gioco in più, un po' più di tempo speso con alcuni personaggi e un finale meno prevedibile, Soul Hackers 2 rimane un JRPG superiore alla media, divertente e curato, con un cast di personaggi ben scritto e un sistema di combattimento sufficientemente profondo e ricco di possibilità. Un nuovo punto di partenza per la serie Devil Summoner e un altro centro per Atlus, forse meno riuscito di altre produzioni recenti, ma comunque ricco di potenziale e meritevole di una chance, soprattutto da parte degli appassionati di JRPG sci-fi.

Soul Hackers 2 è un JRPG di tutto rispetto, capace di intrattenere anche quando si reiterano le stesse azioni più e più volte per una progressione un po’ troppo diluita, e nonostante una scelta di level design non all’altezza, soprattutto dopo il buon lavoro svolto con Persona 5 su questo fronte, sebbene parliamo di titoli dai diversi intenti. La componente ruolistica risulta davvero ben strutturata e stratificata, capace di creare assuefazione, anche a fronte di alcuni sbilanciamenti, spesso dovuti anche al fattore randomico di alcune mosse che possono decidere le sorti degli scontri. Nonostante ciò, Atlus confeziona un altro titolo molto importante per gli appassionati del genere, che fa del suo cavallo di battaglia una formula ludica immortale e ben rodata, ulteriormente approfondita, con una trama intrigante sostenuta da un ottimo cast, senza dimenticare musiche avvincenti e stile unico che contraddistingue il proprio lavoro.

Derrière ses néons colorés, Soul Hackers 2 reste un jeu de rôle "à l'ancienne" qui s'éloigne des titres plus récents de sa franchise comme Persona 5 Royal ou Shin Megami Tensei V. Au-delà de son esthétique anime cyberpunk, le jeu d'Atlus se repose sur un système de combat à la SMT toujours efficace et qui a fait ses preuves, mais aussi sur son sympathique casting de personnages qui se démarquent par leurs designs originaux. Malheureusement, l'expérience est desservie par une histoire finalement assez simple, quelques lacunes techniques, mais surtout par ses donjons beaucoup trop basiques et répétitifs qui peinent à stimuler le joueur. Un titre qui a de quoi plaire aux amateurs de jeu de rôle avertis donc.

Soul Hackers 2 is, at its heart, a streamlined Atlus JRPG, serving as a great entry point for anyone new to the genre or the developer in general. The combat and dungeon delving are entertaining, if fairly familiar, and the charming cast of characters kept me interested all the way through its roughly 60-hour campaign. But a disappointing lack of creativity in its battle systems and a fairly shallow overarching story mean this newly resurrected series will need to do more if it wants to set itself apart amongst Atlus’ best.

Soul Hackers 2 is a competent Atlus JRPG that will tick a lot of boxes for fans of the genre, but it falls well short of being that next breakout star from Japan. With awful dungeon design and little else to do outside of them, it falls upon the engaging combat system and interesting enough narrative to pick up the pieces. It's by no means the next must-play JRPG, but there's just enough to Soul Hackers 2 that warrants a playthrough.

Soul Hackers 2 is a by the books turn-based JRPG that doesn’t do anything particularly memorable nor offensive. The story is lacking in scope, dungeons are bland, and there’s questionable design choices to tried and true systems. It doesn’t help that there’s less-than-stellar load times on the current generation consoles, especially considering the amount of traveling that’s required. With that said, there’s decent character development, a fantastic combat system and of course all your favorite demons and creatures you’d expect, and then some. On top of that, the visual aesthetic (at least outside of dungeons) is tremendously vibrant, bringing your screen to life in the most enticing way possible. In the end, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game, but it comes with numerous flaws. Soul Hackers 2 has all the trappings of a great Shin Megami Tensei game, including heart, but lacks the substance to make it special.

Soul Hackers 2 vuole probabilmente imporsi come alternativa ai suoi più popolari fratelli maggiori, spogliandosi dei loro caratteristici eccessi per offrire un'esperienza più asciutta e accessibile a tutto tondo. Il risultato non funziona al 100% per il semplice fatto che a tradire il nuovo titolo Atlus sono alcune decisioni davvero poco oculate in termini di level design, che fanno di Soul Hackers 2 un GDR sospeso in un limbo tra passato e presente. Se però certi anacronismi non vi sconfortano, e cercate un nuovo megaten con cui cimentarvi, dategli una possibilità: è un titolo valido, ma ha meno personalità di quello che sembra.

Pétri de bonnes intentions, Soul Hackers 2 ne convainc jamais vraiment : son gameplay limité et ses environnements redondants en font une expérience qui montre très rapidement ses limites, il devrait vous falloir à peine une petite paire d'heures avant de déterrer le pot aux roses. Les amoureux du tour par tour à la japonaise peuvent tout de même tenter leur chance pour se boucher une dent creuse, mais il ne propose rien de suffisamment substantiel pour étancher leur soif de MegaTen.
