Flintlock The Siege of Dawn epitomises the 7/10. It's the sort of thing you'll play once and enjoy. Inessential but still worth your time.

Flintlock: Siege of Dawn es un juego interesante ya que presenta un sistema que bebe de las fuentes del soulslike, pero que la diluye para acercarse a una versión con más exploración, verticalidad y plataformas. Tiene ideas llamativas y es visualmente atractivo, pero el combate no está tan pulido como me gustaría. Sencillamente, sin estar mal, no transmite la mejor respuesta a los mandos. Junto a la poca variedad de enemigos y patrones, se queda demasiado en tierra de nadie para ser el núcleo central del juego.

Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition doesn't make a great first impression. It's a downgrade in many ways to NES Remix and there's not as much variety or effort put into the challenges, nor any graphical tweaks to speak of this time around. However, stick with it, get into the competitive mindset, and start collecting up all the pins, icons, and top-ranked times on offer, and you may find yourself fully entertained. It's a slight thing, purely speed-focused, but we expect that'll suit plenty of folk who want a competitive outlet to display their old-school skills. And hey, it also doubles as a handy history of some iconic Nintendo gaming moments and mechanics.

Darkest Dungeon II è un interessantissimo roguelite a turni che regalerà centinaia di ore di pura agonia a chi saprà apprezzarne i contenuti. Il titolo ha un unico grande problema: il capitolo originale. Darkest Dungeon del 2016 è stato per tanti versi unico e irripetibile, e ancora oggi viene stragiocato dagli appassionati oltre che arricchito da decine di mod della community, che ne hanno esteso a dismisura la longevità. Questo sequel è indubbiamente valido, ma non presenta la stessa patina di unicità ed efficacia. Ciò non vuol dire che non gli debba dare un’opportunità, anzi. L’opera di Red Hook Studios rimane sufficientemente diversificate e aggiunge alcune migliorie come le missioni di trama dei singoli personaggi, che aumentano il senso di unicità e progressione della run. Sono inoltre in arrivo dei DLC che espanderanno il roster di personaggi oltre al già annunciato Kingdoms che introdurrà (gratuitamente) una nuova campagna. Se avete amato affrontare la catastrofe causata dall’antenato amerete allo stesso modo l’atto di scoprire i segreti della montagna e cosa si cela dietro gli studi dell’accademico. Darkest Dungeon II non è un gioco per tutti, data la curva di difficoltà estremamente alta che può facilmente indurre il giocatore poco avvezzo al genere a demordere, ma questa sua natura estremamente punitiva lo rende una delle esperienze più appaganti e meglio pensate nel panorama videoludico.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is an exciting action-strategy hybrid that left me yearning to know more about its inspirations and intricacies. The satisfying day-night structure of its stages evoked that overwhelming “just one more thing” feeling that easily had me losing track of time – and while it could occasionally be tainted by busy work base management deeper in, the overall experience was a delightfully unique one. It’s not the most challenging action game around, but the strategy it demands is still satisfying, and its wide range of interesting enemy designs and quiet but effective storytelling are something I’ll remember for a long while. It’s an odd thought, but I’m glad a game as enigmatic as Kunitsu-Gami exists.
