Thanks to its wildly customizable weapons and versatile Iron Man-like jetpack, Outcast: A New Beginning actually does feel like the start of an open-world adventure that’s different from pretty much everything else out there. It’s clearly not a big-budget game, but the freedom it gives you and its ability to laugh at itself make up for a lot of its weaknesses, such as character animations and some overly long questlines filled with busywork. Once you get to know the Talans and appreciate their goofy sci-fi babble, this becomes a charming and colorful world to spend a few dozen hours blasting robots in.

Un onesto nuovo episodio di Contra che propone un gameplay collaudato e sempre gradevole, un buon tasso di varietà, molti contenuti e un tasso di sfida personalizzabile. Per contro una resa audiovisiva deludente può limitare l'appeal ma si tratta di aspetti che fortunatamente passano in secondo piano per quello che è a tutti gli effetti il miglior episodio di Contra dai tempi di Hard Corps: Uprising per Xbox 360 e PS3. Peccato per i soli otto livelli... ma i patiti del genere sapranno probabilmente spremerli a dovere.

Quanto detto per i documentari videoludici precedenti di Digital Eclipse, vale anche per Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story: ci troviamo di fronte al modo migliore che sia stato trovato per presentare la storia dei videogiochi e attualizzarla. In questo caso poi, visto il personaggio, l'opera è particolarmente ricca di aneddoti e contenuti interessanti, oltre che di giochi che hanno fatto epoca. Quindi, se vi interessa l'argomento e volete conoscere un grande sviluppatore e un pezzo di quell'epoca, ora sapete da dove partire.

Digital Eclipse delivers another beautifully curated interactive museum showcasing the work of one of gaming's most unique creative minds. It may not span Minter's entire career, and some of his less popular works aren't covered in much detail, but the overall package is bursting with information and inspiration.

Like squeezing blood from a stone, The Outlast Trials is a repetitive chore that features monotonous searches and running laps through mazes until there is nothing left but pain and the option to share the misery with others.
