Thirsty Suitors has well-crafted RPG mechanics and satisfying combat, but its gleefully wild and colorful style and superb dialogue and characters are truly its biggest strength. It’s the type of game where you find yourself tempted to try every activity possible, either to see a loving ode to South Asian cultures, a well-written character moment or both. It’s an inspired bit of lunacy that still has a ton of heart at its core, creating an emotional journey in the end that still has a lot of room for more humorous bits. Jala’s life may be a mess at the start of the game, but cleaning up the mess leads to a grand amount of fun.

While on the outside Thirsty Suitors seems like a tongue-in-cheek game about reconnecting with your past, it reveals so much more beneath the surface. That's not to say it isn't humorous, but it's also doing much more besides. It's a commentary on societal expectations, living as a second-generation immigrant in a different culture, finding yourself, and accepting others. It's a deep experience packaged in such a light-hearted box, and never feels overbearing. The story of Jala, her family, and friends, each with their own lived experiences, feels so important and relevant to today’s society, and it's a joy to play through.

RoboCop: Rogue City is a pitch-perfect throwback to the action movies of the ‘80s. It’s over-the-top violence with charm, largely well put together but rough on the edges. Most importantly, it's a fun way to spend time in a beloved fictional universe that doesn’t overstay its welcome. Blasting at goons as an unstoppable walking machine remains as extremely entertaining as it seemed on the big screen, thanks in part to an impressive commitment to capturing the look and feel of the original film. Mixing in elements like routine police work and side quests does a great job changing the pace, too. Even if it’s not the best example of visual fidelity, and prone to some bugs along the way, that love of RoboCop shines through. This is a solid B movie of a video game, which is exactly what the source material demands.

RoboCop: Rogue City RoboCop: Rogue City, rappresenta un fedele omaggio e una giusta prosecuzione alle peripezie del cyborg tutore della legge. Il gioco cattura egregiamente i principali elementi che contraddistinguono il franchise avviato nel 1987 da Paul Verhoeven, ovvero violenza sopra le righe, note satiriche taglienti e feroce cinismo non disdegnando all'occorrenza anche alcuni richiami cinematografici che i fan coglieranno e apprezzeranno. In termini di combat system - sicuramente sbilanciato a favore di "Robo", non possiamo - al netto di una IA non brillantissima e ad un ritmo a tratti troppo compassato, lamentarci troppo. E' possibile utilizzare non solo l'iconica pistola Auto 9, insieme ad un nutrito arsenale recuperabile dai nemici abbattuti, ma anche - man mano - sbloccare nuove abilità e potenziamenti (utili sia per il combattimento ma anche per le scelte di dialogo e le analisi ambientali di indizi e prove). Aggiungeteci anche la possibilità di poter svolgere quest e ricerche secondarie e avrete un prodotto, sicuramente non perfetto, ma che vale la pena di sperimentare. Peccato per alcuni problemini tecnici, caricamenti eccessivi e lievi cali di frame rate, che riducono l'immersività dell'azione. Per il resto, Rogue City è altamente consigliato a chi ha guardato soprattutto i primi due RoboCop; per i novizi, potrebbe rappresentare comunque un buon inizio per indossare i panni (o meglio l'armatura) del più temuto Agente di Polizia di Detroit! RoboCop: Rogue City feels outdated at its core, but this actually works in its favour. With no pretensions that it's offering something revolutionary, the game focuses on delivering big dumb action scenes interspersed with entertaining detective work. It has an engaging story and well-written dialogue, all wrapped in a package that shows clear love for the source material.

Robocop: Rogue City est une bonne adaptation en jeu vidéo de la trilogie originale. Avec une narration captivante, mais surtout une fidélité remarquable au matériau de base, Teyon a frappé juste et montre qu’il a du talent et de la passion quand il s’agit de retranscrire avec exactitude les licences cinématographiques de la fin du siècle dernier. Le studio arrive même à nous impressionner avec ses gunfights qui nous délivrent du pur fun, tout en nous faisant ressentir la puissance et la violence graphique de Robocop, qui s’offre par ailleurs un système d’amélioration solide. Seuls quelques soucis de game design et un relatif archaïsme dans la progression demeurent regrettables. Mais dans l’ensemble, Robocop: Rogue City coche presque toutes les cases de l’adaptation fidèle, et il ne lui manque qu’un peu plus de temps et de budget pour viser la lune. Au moins, on adore la reprise du thème musical principal, et surtout le retour de Peter Weller au doublage de notre héros de métal préféré.

Though an occasional lack of polish and size for size’s sake approach doesn’t always prove beneficial, a brilliant assortment of puzzles nestled amidst a thought-provoking but compelling narrative still grants The Talos Principle II status as a sequel well worth the near-decade wait. That Croteam can inject a surprising amount of smart designs into their puzzles, as much they can demonstrate a commendable level of maturity as to the writing and choices provided in their tale, proves that even after all these years, the team’s talents across an array of departments remains untainted. And in the sequel’s case, stronger than what came before. Mechanically and narratively stimulating throughout, The Talos Principle II is an accomplished follow-up that just might eclipse the 2014 original.

The team at Outerloop Games exudes confidence and style with Thirsty Suitors, a delightfully approachable palate cleanser that anybody can enjoy in this year of incredible releases. With its heart on its sleeve, a charming cast, and constant nailing of intimacy and culture, Thirsty Suitors comfortably ollies its way into your heart and makes for one of the year’s best depictions of desire, culture, and vulnerability. Jala’s skateboarding odyssey of growth is worth beholding, even when the surrounding gameplay doesn’t quite meet the standard of its writing and visuals.

The Talos Principle 2 si distingue per la sua abilità di intrecciare gameplay e narrazione, creando un'esperienza di gioco che va oltre la semplice risoluzione di puzzle. Star Ocean: The Second Story R è un acquisto imprescindibile per chiunque abbia amato il capolavoro di tri-Ace, nonché un’occasione imperdibile per eventuali neofiti di scoprire uno dei migliori action RPG degli anni ’90. Lasciando inalterato l’intreccio originale e innestando nuove meccaniche al suo frenetico sistema di combattimento, i ragazzi di Gemdrops hanno saputo confezionare un remake fedele e al tempo stesso innovativo. La bizzarra scelta di accostare gli storici sprite 2D a un mondo tridimensionale ricreato da zero potrà non soddisfare tutti i palati, specie quelli delle nuove generazioni, ciononostante siamo fermamente convinti che questo restauro abbia giovato parecchio a quello che i fan considerano tuttora il miglior Star Ocean di sempre.

Star Ocean The Second Story R is exactly what it needs to be: a faithful remake of a classic PS1 RPG that greatly enhances the experience for both new and returning players. A wonderful visual overhaul combined with numerous quality of life improvements and expanded battle mechanics make this a borderline must-play for anyone who's looking for an old-school adventure. Although the underlying PS1-era design does still have some rough edges — particularly in the storytelling and combat balance — it's hard to knock such a well crafted revival.

In a year overflowing with outstanding new RPGs, Star Ocean: The Second Story R is among the very best of them. This revival of a PlayStation classic does a thorough job of mixing modern game design and artistic elements with old-school sensibilities to make for one of the most impressive RPG releases of 2023. A lengthy, player-driven story, thrilling combat system, gorgeous new visual style, and remixed soundtrack all come together to make this one of the easiest recommendations we can make to any RPG fan. If you’re even vaguely interested in picking this up, we’d encourage you to do so as soon as you can; Star Ocean: The Second Story R is comfortably the best entry in this series.
