La collezione storica di ATLUS dedicata ad uno dei suoi migliori cavalli di battaglia riporta la gustosa trilogia originale di Etrian Odyssey, nata su Nintendo DS nel 2007, sul mercato attuale, proponendosi di far conoscere alle nuove generazioni le origini della saga, ed in particolare i primi tre capitoli della saga in versione rimasterizzata in HD, con una grafica ridisegnata e resa più piacevole e moderna, oltre che la splendida colonna sonora di Yuzo Koshiro con un nuovo arrangiamento che rendono ancora più epica la trilogia originale. Tre classici moderni del genere Dungeon Crawler in un sol colpo, per rendere la calda estate in arrivo davvero infuocata.

Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection feels like an odd release to recommend, but we’d be doing you a disservice to suggest you pass on it. On one hand, the three games are undeniably solid DRPGs that are worth your time and attention. On the other, the cost at launch feels astronomical for what are essentially straight, no-frills HD ports of decade-old portable titles. This collection is worthwhile because this series is and always has been great, but the collection itself feels subpar given the rather lackluster effort that has gone into bringing them to modern hardware. We’d still give Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection a recommendation, but with the caveat that you’re probably better off either waiting for a deep sale or just buying one of the games—we would recommend Etrian Odyssey III the most out of these three. Etrian Origins Collection may not be the 'definitive’ re-release that many hoped it would be, but these games are well-respected in the DRPG space for good reason and it's great to see them on Switch.

Etrian Odyssey wird für immer einen besonderen Platz in meinem Herzen haben und ich bin sehr glücklich darüber, wie gut das HD-Remaster für die Nintendo Switch gelungen ist. Der zweigeteilte Bildschirm funktioniert intuitiv und brachte mich nie aus der Game-Loop, die sich von einem Spiel ins nächste übertrug. Trotz der durchaus gelungenen optischen, technischen und auditiven Performance, spielt sich Etrian Odyssey nicht ganz so reibungslos, wie auf dem DS. Trotzdem sind Neuerungen, wie die Übersicht der Statistiken zu Gegnern oder das Auto-Mapping mehr als willkommen. Klingt etwas paradox, ist aber nur logisch, denn keines der Etrian Odyssey Spiele wurde für diese Hardware konzipiert und das ist auch okay.

Etrian Odissey Origins Collection è un'ottima notizia per gli amanti dei dungeon crawler che vogliono ritrovare un classico del combattimento a turni su Nintendo Switch e PC. La funzione per cui è necessario disegnarsi da soli le mappe potrebbe essere disorientante per chi non ha mai provato un capitolo della saga, ma vi farà sentire dei veri e propri esploratori alla ricerca della loro fortuna in un territorio inesplorato. Gli scontri a turni sono solidi, le classi varie e ci sono davvero tante possibilità di costruzione delle build per avere una squadra che si adatta perfettamente al vostro stile di gioco. Il difetto principale della Collection è il prezzo di lancio di 80 euro, piuttosto alto secondo noi, che trasforma immediatamente il bundle dei tre giochi in un prodotto solo per chi è un fan di tutti e tre i titoli e vuole riviverli con grafiche migliori, strumenti di mappatura aggiornati e una maggiore fluidità nell'esplorazione. Se siete alla ricerca di un solidissimo dungeon crawler e avete incontrato questa serie per la prima volta meglio dedicarsi solo al terzo capitolo, il più solido della trilogia.

Starship Troopers: Extermination’s early access version is pretty light on content, but already does a decent job of pitting a large group of marines against an overwhelming force of alien bugs, and building fortifications gives you something to coordinate on as you hold out long enough for a thrilling extraction. That said, my recommendation to those who would need to be convinced to drop their current forever game and enlist is to wait and see how early access comes along over the next year. The building mechanics are solid and add a new dimension to the co-op squad shooter genre, but you’ll exhaust most of that novelty quickly and then have to grind out your new class abilities repeating the same missions dozens of times. With some time, Extermination could become the premier bug-stomping romp for big teams, but in its current early state, mobile infantry can do the dying without you.

Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance Of The Slayer is a competent shooter that successfully evokes the good and bad of a first-person shooter made in the late 90s. Its dated presentation is backed up by great moment-to-moment gunplay and fascinating levels. It’s not an easy recommendation to anyone, but if you stumble upon this game on Game Pass and decide to give it a shot, you might be pleasantly surprised by how high-quality this low-quality-looking shooter is. You can’t polish a turd. But what if underneath the turd is a polished gem? That’s Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance Of The Slayer.

Graficamente arretrato, per nulla originale, volgare. Ma ha anche dei difetti. Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer è in tutto e per tutto un tributo, un emulo degli FPS dei primi anni '90. Proprio per questo è difficile sconsigliarlo a chi ha vissuto quegli anni e oggi li rimpiange. L'art design, il ritmo dell'azione, la concezione del level design è volutamente derivativo. Gli sviluppatori hanno scientemente e volutamente ricalcato e riproposto le stesse formule che fecero la fortuna di giochi come Doom e Wolfenstein. Le sei, sette ore che impiegherete per compiere la vendetta di Zane sono piacevoli, adrenaliniche, divertenti al punto giusto, ma vi appassionerete davvero a questo gioco solo se siete inclini allo stile proposto. Se cercate qualcosa di originale, di innovativo, che sia al passo con i tempi guardate altrove.

Protodroid DeLTA is a challenging 3D platformer heavily influenced by the Mega Man X series. The game offers a variety of cool stages to choose from and presents crazy enemies to fight, but the jumps and enemy placement can feel unfair at times.

While Loop8’s story has the potential to be incredibly interesting, it never really lands and fails to leave an emotional impact towards the end. It's all presented beautifully and has a unique mix of gameplay styles and ideas, but their repetitive and frustrating nature makes the whole experience a chore. It’s like toiling away at your summer job and going through the motions until it’s time to leave.

As you can see from the screenshots, Planet of Lana is a thoroughly lovely game. Panoramas showcase picturesque azure skies, voluminous clouds, and the sliver of a colossal moon. If you’re relatively new to games with logic-based brainteasers, there’s a strong chance you’ll appreciate the journey. But for those with more experience in the puzzle and stealth genres, Lana’s looks will be the biggest draw.
