Being hailed as a spiritual successor to a fan favorite franchise can often be a tall order to live up to, but Screamride does an exceptional job at maintaining some of the core elements while branching out in many new directions as well. Sandbox preserves the classic rollercoaster building element for the purists, while Screamrider and Demolition Expert add something that is bound to attract a wider audience. While held back by the Xbox 360 version graphically, Screamride does a wonderful job at simulating a fantastical theme park experience that will bring out the kid in everyone.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse is definitely the best Dragon Ball game in years, though certainly not without its flaws, which shakes up the typical formula and is bound to shape the future of the series.

Turtle Rock Studios' brand of Asymmetrical Multiplayer in Evolve is right up there with the very best that we've seen, with a complimentary presentation to match. For anyone looking for a reprieve from military shooters, Evolve can be an exhilarating change of pace.

Unmechanical: Extended’s presentation will please, and its puzzles will challenge you for a few hours, but don’t expect it to do much more. The complete lack of context and non-existent story give you nothing to latch on to. The variety of puzzles found in the game don’t have much replay value, and even on the first go round, the more ambitious ones can certainly frustrate. That said, there are plenty of worse ways to spend an afternoon than with Unmechanical: Extended.

Saints Row IV: Re-Elected serves as a marvelous starting point for newcomers to the franchise, while at the same time being the next great step forward for fans of the series. Taking a cluster of very different ingredients and mixing them into one pot turned out magnificently, with the inclusion of superpowers jumping the series to new heights. The remaster itself pales in comparison to other recent ports like GTA V, so it can be kind of hard to recommend for those that already own the game on last-gen consoles. However, for those that have never played the series or just this game in particular, Saints Row IV: Re-Elected is a must buy for anybody that enjoys mindless, yet incredibly amusing gameplay.

For all the things right that SRIV and the series in general has done over the past few iterations, Gat out of Hell isn’t a promising glimpse at the future. Perhaps its just a case of the game continually trying to top itself in outlandishness, and coming up empty with this attempt. The new gameplay mechanic, flying, is fun and shows promise, but just isn’t enough for fans craving that next big Saints Row experience. While it should get people talking about where the series will head next, it’s clear that there are many ways this can go. Hopefully, there’s more Saints Row in the future. Hopefully it’s better than Gat out of Hell.

With a very cheap price tag, Tetris Ultimate is not a bad option for someone looking to play some classic Tetris, but the game certainly does not provide anything to truly shake up the typical formula.

Tomb Raider is a fantastic solo adventure. Admittedly, I couldn’t help but wish my first experience with Tomb Raider was the Definitive One. If you come into Tomb Raider, this “Definitive Edition, thinking that it’s anything more than a shinier port, you’ll likely leave disappointed.

Far Cry 4 is more of what made Far Cry 3 a great game, and that’s OK. So long as Ubisoft doesn’t get too comfortable here. The franchise probably needs an engine upgrade for the next iteration as some aspects of the game feel a little antiquated. Gameplay wise though, they’ve got a good formula, that works, but Far Cry 4 is more of a side step rather than forward progress. That doesn’t make this tale of tourism gone awry any less enjoyable.

Assassin’s Creed Unity is, at times, a fairly impressive entry in the series. The story is more developed than previous Assassin’s Creed games, and the unfolding mystery is a great catalyst for pushing players through the many assassination scenarios that the game throws at them. It’s just often that you find things not working as expected. Whether it be the hit and miss traversal elements or the graphical bugs, there’s always something that is breaking the immersion. Unity isn’t a bad game by any means, but one that feels a little rough around the edges in some of the new features and their implementation. While hardcore Creed fans can likely overlook some of these issues, those looking for a pitch perfect experience are going to have plenty to gripe at.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 improves on many of the already positive features of the past, while also adding a few. The return of the Fox Engine has provided possibly the most realistic soccer gameplay there has ever been, though the lack of many major licenses in the sport does hurt. While the game may be overshadowed by the now more arcade style FIFA series, Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 stands out as the best simulation soccer game on the market easily and is not one to be missed for true fans of the sport.

For as well as all the changes made in Advanced Warfare adapt to the core structure of Call of Duty, it makes you wonder why it’s taken this long to see this type of innovation within the series. Whether Activision just didn’t want to kill their golden goose, or whether they just hadn’t come up with any ideas, it’s clear that Call of Duty isn’t going anywhere. All the new additions, the Loot System, Pick 13, and Exosuit give Call of Duty multiplayer a much needed shot in the arm, layering on multiple reasons to keep playing, what is probably the best all around package that the series has ever delivered on the competitive multiplayer front. While the campaign has its moments, with Spacey being a standout, there just aren’t as many new ideas brought forth on that part of the game to get excited about. The good news is, the campaign is about 8 hours long, where multiplayer could keep you entertained for 80.

While not reinventing the wheel, Ubisoft has definitely taken the Just Dance series to new heights with the latest entry in the franchise. With a wide range of songs from many different genres, there is something here for just about everyone, though there is a steep learning curve with the lack of a true in-game tutorial. Dance Challenger Mode and Community Remix are excellent social additions, which is just the direction that Just Dance should naturally grow. Built perfectly for parties, Just Dance 2015 will likely not attract a massive audience of new gamers, but still provides a great product for fans of the series.
