It's great to have the Vandal Hearts series back but this art style was a mistake. Truly, these characters look like ugly munchkins. Thankfully the strategy gameplay is good enough to convince fans of the genre to overlook the visuals and dig into some old school turn-based battles. The skill system is a great way to customize your team and those geysers of blood never get old. Flames of Judgment might not win over gamers who find SRPGs tedious, but if you're a fan of the genre you'll get your fix here.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is an amazing win for not only Wii, but the worldwide audience overall. As I consider it to be the true successor of Marvel vs. Capcom 2, TVC melds a few classic Capcom characters with an otherwise totally unknown roster and still manages to make a fighter that can pull anyone in within a matter of moments. The gameplay is simple enough for a fighting game newbie, but deep enough for seasoned brawlers to really sink their teeth into and enjoy. There are a few inherent downsides to the experience, including the fact that half the roster is entirely unknown outside of Japan, and there’s always the issue of TVC being “too casual” or “too hardcore” for certain people. But when it comes to taking the tried and true Vs. formula that Capcom has continued over the years and making something truly unique and captivating for the Wii crowd, I say "mission accomplished." The roster is extremely diverse, there’s plenty of content to unlock (most of which was never found in the Japanese version), and the core gameplay is just downright fun. I may be in the minority, but I’d take a few rounds of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom over Street Fighter IV any day. It’s no wonder 360 and PS3 fans are begging for the game to see a multi-console version, as Ultimate All-Stars is a true gem worthy of the Capcom fighting legacy.

Blood Bowl is a respectable attempt at bringing the ideals of a board game to a videogame. It has decent elements of personality, but the abundance of text and rule memorization can be a downer when all you want to do is get into a game. With so many other great games from the holiday and early in 2010, it’s difficult to recommend Blood Bowl unless you have a serious hankering for a board game on your TV screen.

So Eco Shooter: Plant 530 is ultimately a decent design, just not really all that impressive in the end. Spending ten dollars for just three levels of blasting away at old garbage, even alien-animated sentient garbage, feels like an uneven investment.

Shattered Memories isn't your typical Silent Hill game. Some devoted fans will undoubtedly raise a fuss over every difference whether subtle or grand, but I believe this re-imagining succeeds as both a sequel and a departure. The overarching narrative, characters, and monsters will all seem faintly familiar to Silent Hill purists, but Climax has taken the series and run with it, crafting a title refreshingly different yet still at times quite scary. I feel that the separation between safe exploration, puzzling and run-for-your-life monster scenarios is too transparent and as a result you will inevitably come to fear the ice and few things else. And despite a unique psych profile system that allows for multiple endings and various changes throughout the adventure, the game runs a bit short -- perhaps too short for some. Even so, there are some incredible moments encapsulated within Harry's icy journey and you will be both wowed and scared as you finally uncover the truth about his daughter's disappearance and the nightmarish goings-on in the creepy town. The PSP version of the game is not nearly as inviting as the Wii title before it. The obvious visual downgrades are to be expected. The lighting effects are less impressive all around. More disappointing, though, are the sluggish controls -- Mason moves slower and heavier -- and the inability to directly control and point his flashlight, a major selling point of the home platform title. These issues noted, Shattered Memories remains a competent PSP action thriller, particularly for those with no other choices.

Dark Void is all over the place. The story’s never explained adequately, the combat’s pretty much always a chore, and flying isn’t nearly as fun as it should be. I don’t hate Dark Void, but I don’t care for it, either. This is one of those titles that just exists; I doubt few will remember it this time next year.

Vancouver 2010 is a fun experience for a short while that is aided slightly by challenges and online competition. If only this game had some semblance of a career mode or anything that felt slightly like the real Olympics, then perhaps SEGA would have had a real winner on its hands. As it stands Vancouver 2010 is a worthy addition to the long line of Olympic games and does a bit to advance the series in terms of gameplay.

As you have probably guessed by now, I don't care for Twin Sector. And I think I'm even more aggravated because, at its heart, the game actually does have quite a bit of potential. Yes, it's derivative in terms of both the gameplay and the overall story, but that doesn't bother me nearly as much as the fact that it fails to provide a compelling or consistent framework for the inspirations that it has drawn from other similar games.

For fans of classic 2D gaming, Chronos Twins is a must-play offering whether you find a way to dig up the original DS version or download it on WiiWare. For US gamers, this is the first time the game has seen a release stateside, and for that reason alone I highly recommend the purchase. It's got its random issues – mainly in the overall presentation and interface – but thankfully the outstanding gameplay has in no way been sacrificed during its transition from Game Boy Advance, onto DS, and then back onto a single-screen format. I truly believe that EnjoyUp was ahead of its time when Chronos Twin was originally crafted for GBA, and having a chance to own it after all these years just shouldn't be passed up, even if the game is showing its age a bit. The puzzles will twist your brain, the bosses are fun, and the game's "two screen, two dimension" hook is not only well thought up, but also well executed from top to bottom.

The idea behind Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard was intriguing, it just didn't pan out into an enjoyable game. Turns out there was definitely something to that basic idea, though, because the more modest Blood Bath & Beyond is a real good time. It's a simple run-and-gun shooter in the style of Contra but its self-deprecating sense of humor and videogame in-jokes will keep you entertained until the end. Make sure you stick around after the credits for a nice little surprise.

Lackluster action sequences, brain-dead AI and limited gameplay features really cripple the port of Army of Two: The 40th day on the PSP. While the game does feature morality moments, good dialogue and a variety of environments to fight through, the action is so basic and repetitive that the fun is completely missing. The console version of Army of Two: The 40th Day is well worth exploring, but spare yourself – and your buddies – from the PSP experience.

A disaster movie in a game package, Army of Two: The 40th Day capitalizes on its co-op play to deliver an awesome action experience that's incredibly fun to play. Co-op moments feel more natural, and whether you’re playing by yourself or with friends, you’ll enjoy the fast paced action that doesn’t seem to slow down, even when you’re in the middle of a cutscene. The improved Aggro system (thanks to the inclusion of the GPS feature) and expanded weapons customization strengthens the tactics on the battlefield, which are much deeper than the previous title. Even multiplayer reinforces the co-op nature of the game, and its modes will keep you playing for a long time. The morality moments could have posed larger dilemmas and the AI still stumbles at times, but overall, The 40th Day is a great game to blast through.

I don't consider myself a truly hardcore Yu-Gi-Oh fan any more, as I haven't kept up with every episode of the cartoon since GX went into its third season or so and it's been a while since I even looked at the physical card game. I am still a fan, though, in that I continue to love the strategic aspects of the Duel Monsters card battling design and look forward to diving back into it each time I'm asked to review a new digital version. I think the core gameplay of the Duel Monsters matches remains solid and addictive, and the wealth of deck customization options and variety of card selection (with over 4000 individual cards included) is excellent. Longtime fans will have no problem diving in and putting together their favorite styles of decks, then taking them wireless to duel against other like-minded human opponents. I just think there's more that could have been done with the single-player portion of the game design here, as after four Tag Force adventures the 2D cutesy style and lack of any real sense of interaction with the storyline or characters is disappointing -- it'd be nice if Konami could take some cues from itself, and from the more robust story modes being crafted for other Yu-Gi-Oh games on other systems. (Though it is nice that the company's promoting environmentalism. Remember kids, don't throw your Yu-Gi-Oh cards on the ground.)
