This title's saving grace is its $20 asking price. Even so, there's no guarantee that the relatively simple mechanics won't start to wear on you. They sure did on me. Without offering a little more depth to either the tactical or strategic aspects of the game, we're left with two experiences that are integrated well enough but leave us wanting more. For $20, Lords of the Realm 3 offers a nice diversion and a pleasant change of pace from more top-heavy RTS games, but you'll soon be missing the sophistication found in games like Medieval Total War, which is also $20 now.

Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow is a must have for stealth fans mainly because of the multiplayer mode. It's a new way to get even more out of your online experience and shouldn't be missed because of this. Fans of the original and those wanting to go solo will definitely appreciate Pandora Tomorrow as well, although I have to admit I wasn't blown away by the solo campaign like I was the first time. The revolution in stealth-action can only happen once, so if you're looking for it here, then be sure to check out the multiplayer mode.

MTX: Mototrax excels where it really needs to: providing that sense of speed and creating a fun driving system that rewards racers with plenty of skidding and massive jumps. The riders look like they have a sense of weight to them and the tricks look fantastic. With a well-executed online system, racing others on the Internet is a user-friendly experience. The tracks themselves have plenty of twists, turns and jumps to master, but a total of 16 racing tracks is a little small, especially if a gamer strongly prefers either supercross or motocross racing. The Free Ride areas and the Freestyle course give a nod to the world of freestyle racing, but MTX: Mototrax doesn't flesh them out enough to make it a completely worthwhile addition to the game. Overall, MTX: Mototrax provides one of the best places for the experience of racing in the dirt and having it online makes it even better. The racing tracks are fun to ride and with online stats there's a compelling reason to keep shaving seconds off your time. If only there were more tracks to race on.

Lately, platformers have resorted to uninspired collecting marathons. Tak manages to breathe new energy and life into the genre. While not a revolutionary title, Tak possesses enough characteristics that you want to play it through it. Perhaps it's because of the goofy main character, a humorous plot line, or some creative ways to present age old puzzles, but you're compelled to play through Tak. It's fun and incorporates platform collecting in a way that doesn't seem like you're gathering all sorts of items. Although Tak is straightforward and simple, it is designed for kids and should provide a challenge while keeping them entertained. If you're an older gamer, Tak is still a fun, light-hearted romp even if it doesn't provide you with excessive challenge -- you might be surprised by what sort of power this Juju using tribesman has. If you're interested in Tak and own a GameCube, then you should pick up the GCN copy (it's not just because I'm a GameCube editor). The graphical problems in the PS2 version do detract from the overall experience -- Tak is simply more polished on Nintendo's console.

Though the expansion is a hefty $30, you can get a bundle with the core game and the Ace expansion for only $40. For sim heads who don't own the original, this is a must have. Players who are hoping to squeeze a bit more fun out of the original game have to weigh the decision a bit more carefully. While there's a lot of new content here, the buy-in price is a bit steep if you already own the original game. Still, people who do own the game and are looking to get a bit more life out of it online won't be disappointed.

I've been covering the Game Boy market for several years now, so I'm pretty accustomed to the tradition of producing side-scrolling action games for handheld versions of bigger game productions. Tak and the Power of Juju has a lot of potential that's never met; decent music and graphics aren't enough for a "good" platformer. The little problems surface early on, and it just ends up being a very mediocre, almost unfinished design. Yes, it's a challenge, but it's not much of a fun one.

Through its faults, Syberia II conjures a little bit of that magic common during the golden days of adventure games. It has a great, albeit short, storyline that grips you from the get-go. Plus, the story's sense of urgency does a nice job balancing the languid pace of its gameplay. What's more, superb graphics, sound and music push Syberia II above being good, and just short of being great. During an adventure game drought though, Syberia II is a real winner -- a refreshing game rich in narrative, gameplay and style.
