Worms: Forts Under Siege still has the light-hearted sense of humor that the series is known for. The weapons are comical contraptions and the character animation can be very cute. Unfortunately the frustrating controls tend to drain the fun from the game, and fans of the two-dimensional version will seriously dislike the changes that have been made to Worms. There is fun to be had in this game but it is buried under a heap of problems.

I know the potential is there because there were some cool segments where I had to race someone else to hunt down a certain number of items, and a few escort/defend missions, and some fun racing. The flag hunt and deathmatch modes are present in multiplayer, in addition to team deathmatch and CTF, and you'll get to play them in areas taken from the game, which is cool, but I would have liked to have seen more variety and lateral flexibility in the single-player.

Our friends in Europe have obviously been listening to our pleas as ToCA Race Driver 2 features head-to-head online support. A true sequel, but more of an '04 update, ToCA Race Driver 2 takes what we liked about the previous game and adds new cars, new tracks, improved gameplay and better visuals. Normally the question would be does a sequel with 35 cars, 48 tracks and a lot of the same stuff warrant a purchase? For the car buff, yeah, it does--new cars plus additional tracks and we're sold. But even if motor oil doesn't course through your veins there's no doubt that ToCA Race Driver 2 is not only an amazing game, but worth the buy. The physics are amazing, the visuals just as good and the cars--well, they're race cars, new and old. Let's not forget the nearly 50 venues to race in. Yeah, some might complain that 35 cars isn't enough, but I'd rather have 35 smokin' cars than a bunch of crappy ones. C'mon, it's on the cheap and nearly a budget game.

Throughout my play time, I could never shake the impression that The Saga of Ryzom needed a little more time in the oven, not only to finish up some UI and content issues, but to get the word out, because the game world, at least the American servers, were pretty empty. Maybe it's busy over in Europe, but their schedule is virtually the opposite of the one in the States, so it's a moot point. From the patch notes, you can tell the game is updated pretty often--at least once a week--which is a good thing, because they're paying attention to issues and addressing them--but it's also a bad thing because there's a lot of little glitches and constant network hiccups, especially in the cities, which are chock-full of non-interactive NPCs. The game has an awesome art style to it, and there's lots of character to the beasts--they'll run up to you and sniff around, sit around and scratch itchy places, forage, scamper, take naps, etc.--but the scope feels too ambitious for a developer with only Ryzom on its resume. (You may recall that Dark Age of Camelot had seemed to have come out of nowhere, but Mythic had actually done over a dozen online games before that, albeit on a smaller scale.) I think The Saga of Ryzom has the potential to turn into a real contender, but not until they smooth out player introduction, get some more players on board (a Catch 22, granted), take care of network lag, and introduce quests to make gameplay more rewarding and better paced overall.
