Nearly two decade on, Western players can finally enjoy the inaugural entry to the Utawarerumono franchise. Although some elements of Prelude to the Fallen still feel a bit dated, the game bring the original game in line with Mask of Deception and Mask of Truth, solidifying the satisfying series. With an adept localization that’s just a hair away from Atlus’ work, engrossing characters, and a plotline that scales outstandingly, it’s great to see geographical parity for this remarkable property.
Utawarerumono: Prelude to the Fallen si mantiene sullo stesso livello qualitativo degli episodi che lo hanno preceduto (almeno nell'ordine di uscita occidentale). Se da un lato abbiamo un buon intreccio narrativo, fondamentale per la riuscita di una visual novel, dall'altra abbiamo una storia su binari che non accontenterà tutti gli appassionati del genere ed una componente da RPG tattico fin troppo abbozzata per essere apprezzata. Sostanzialmente, se siete fan dei due episodi già usciti in Italia, troverete pane per i vostri denti. Se invece non conoscete la serie ma le visual novel con una buona storia vi incuriosiscono, provate a cominciare da qui il vostro viaggio. Per tutti gli altri, ci sono visual novel molto migliori verso cui puntare.
