Capcom Fighting Collection 2 si presenta come un prodotto ben curato e di notevole valore per diverse tipologie di utenti. I giocatori di lunga data potranno rivivere esperienze passate con la comodità e le funzionalità aggiuntive delle piattaforme moderne, sempre che lo vogliano; i neofiti, invece, scopriranno un valido e semplificato punto di accesso a un'epoca di spessore per i picchiaduro grazie a titoli il cui gameplay, sebbene risalente a oltre due decenni fa, conserva intatto il potenziale di divertimento e sfida, valorizzato poi dalle opzioni di accessibilità implementate. Le funzionalità aggiuntive, in particolare la modalità allenamento avanzata, le opzioni di visualizzazione (hitbox, input) e il museo digitale arricchiscono ulteriormente l'offerta, trasformando la raccolta in uno strumento completo per il gioco, l'apprendimento e l'esplorazione storica - quest'ultima a patto mastichiate il giapponese, perché i documenti di design sono in lingua originale. Pur non avendo potuto testare a lungo la modalità online data la difficoltà nel trovare avversari, gli scontri che ho potuto affrontare hanno confermato la stabilità del roolback netcode. In termini di videogiochi in sé, qualcuno potrebbe lamentare l'assenza di alcuni titoli rispetto alla presenza di altri ma nel complesso la selezione spazia fra giochi e approcci, e risulta piuttosto soddisfacente. La raccolta si configura dunque un acquisto pressoché imprescindibile per gli appassionati di picchiaduro, per i giocatori competitivi che cercano titoli con sistemi di gioco profondi (come CvS2 e SFA3 Upper) e per coloro che desiderano esplorare una parte importante della storia videoludica di Capcom e dei picchiaduro.

Capcom Fighting Collection 2 Capcom Fighting Collection 2 rappresenta l'ennesima imperdibile raccolta di classici firmata dalla leggendaria software house giapponese. Attingendo direttamente dalla gloriosa (e sfortunata) epoca Dreamcast, la selezione spazia da alcuni dei migliori picchiaduro della storia ad iconici giochi d'azione arcade passando per piccole grandi chicche dimenticate. Ancora una volta, si tratta di un appuntamento irrinunciabile per ogni fan del retrogaming e per chiunque voglia assaporare gustosissime pagine di questo dolce passato videoludico. DOOM: The Dark Ages feels almost entirely made from my dreams. A slightly more grounded shooting experience, with an emphasis on well executed timing and shooting massive demons with your even more massive guns – it’s a hit. My only real point of concern is the stark truth that the game is banking heavily on people engaging with it from a completionist perspective, given the lack of any co-op or multiplayer option. It almost feels like DOOM: The Dark Ages has slid a little too far into the past, emerging as a 16 hour story experience and nothing more. I know when I finished my initial playthrough, I marvelled at how I had managed to scrape by with 90-100% completion on most chapters – so there are still some secrets left for me to explore, but man, what if I had achieved 100%? It would feel like a punch in the gut. I know there is some DLC coming, described as a ‘campaign’ DLC which is neat – but man, if ever there was a DOOM for co-op, it was this one.

DOOM: The Dark Ages is the most well-executed entry in this long-respected franchise yet. Exceptional stage layouts, terrific implementations of player choice, and rewarding enemy design alongside the new shield and parry mechanics make this riveting FPS familiarly refreshing. Despite a few bumps in the road where spectacle overtakes ingenuity, DOOM: The Dark Ages is an undeniably must-play outing that can effortlessly appeal to prospective new and veteran returning DOOM fans.

Avec DOOM: The Dark Ages, id Software prend un virage audacieux, en enfonçant les deux bottes dans un univers de dark fantasy crasseux et sacrifié. Loin de la nervosité fulgurante qui avait fait de DOOM Eternal un chef-d’œuvre de violence chorégraphiée, le Slayer est plus lourd, plus bestial, plus ancré dans la terre et le sang. Techniquement, c’est une démonstration. L’id Tech 8 crache ses particules à +150 fps sans broncher, et chaque zone visitée regorge d’un travail artistique qui mérite qu’on s’y attarde même si l’exploration, justement, manque parfois d’intérêt ou casse un peu le rythme. Côté gameplay, les combats restent d’une efficacité redoutable, en particulier grâce à des armes bien pensées. Mais The Dark Ages n’est pas le meilleur DOOM depuis le reboot de 2016. Il lui manque cette énergie animale et cette nervosité pure qui faisaient de DOOM 2016 mais surtout d’Eternal, des uppercuts constants. Certains choix de mise en scène comme les phases en dragon ou en mécha impressionnent visuellement mais s’avèrent pauvres manette en main. Et l’exploration trop mise en avant ralentit parfois un tempo qui, dans cette série, devrait rester au seuil de la crise d’adrénaline. Reste toutefois, un très bon jeu, un DOOM différent, qui a le mérite de tenter autre chose. Plus contemplatif, plus technique, mais parfois moins jouissif. Pas le meilleur de la saga moderne, non. Mais une pierre intéressante dans le mausolée sanglant qu’id Software continue d’ériger.
