Snow Day is a fun enough co-op action game while it lasts, but its repetitive nature (both in terms of its environments and its low number of stages) means you'll tire of it eventually. Dialogue is typically fantastic and the art style works better than we expected, but its low price is a key indicator of how relatively light it is on content at launch.

With 3DS hardware becoming increasingly cost-prohibitive and emulation growing progressively thorny, a remastering of The Legend of Legacy is a welcome proposal. Nearly a decade on, FuRyu’s RPG remains involving - thanks to its non-traditional character development and emphasis on exploration and discovery. But know that the title lacks the sophistication and sheen of most contemporary role-playing efforts.

Rise of the Ronin marries a cool historical setting, Team Ninja’s mastery of tough-but-fair combat, and some smart RPG design to make a game that is immediately compelling, and even more fun with friends. It’s full of cool little touches, whether it’s throwing something at an enemy with the grappling rope or dropping from your glider onto your horse. Unfortunately, it’s also a game full of map clutter, bloated systems, and a truly absurd amount of junk loot, and the time I spent clearing out everything that didn’t spark joy and dealing with all these non-essential systems made me pine for a leaner, meaner, more focused game. Rise of the Ronin is excellent when it has the courage to be itself and lean into its challenging, rewarding fighting; too often, however, it feels stuck in indecision, torn between what it wants to be and what it feels it’s expected to be, and not even the best samurai can overcome that.

Rise of the Ronin is a case where more isn't always better. It's got varied and challenging combat, a wealth of content, and a wide variety of mechanics in a story that spans over a decade. But while most of the individual components work, many feel unrefined, and their sheer volume doesn't elevate the experience.

Cassé, oui, mais splendide, plein de moments uniques et épiques, Dragon's Dogma II réussit, comme son aîné, à combiner game design actuel et conception classique, presque obsolète, du RPG. Et c'est passionnant !

Rise of the Ronin è figlio della volontà del Team Ninja di evolvere la sua formula a base d'azione pura attraverso una struttura a mondo aperto: al cuore i grandi punti di forza sono rimasti gli stessi di sempre, ma il cambio di paradigma non ha portato i benefici sperati. Il sistema di combattimento è infatti un amalgama profondo, stratificato e accessibile che trasmette ottime sensazioni, per certi versi simili a quelle di un picchiaduro, ma la cornice in cui è collocato non riesce mai davvero a mettersi al suo servizio. La costruzione del mondo di gioco è classica, le attività sono molto semplici, il comparto grafico e l'esecuzione tecnica non sono assolutamente al passo coi tempi, mentre l'ambientazione storica è interessantissima, ma finisce per limitare scenografia e design estetico. Insomma, i combattimenti di Rise of the Ronin sono una goduria imperdibile per gli appassionati del genere, non stancano mai e sanno regalare grandi soddisfazioni, ma sono costretti a reggere sulle proprie spalle tutto il peso di un'opera che, in quasi tutte le altre componenti, rema nella direzione opposta.

Rise of the Ronin isn't a bad game; it's something debatably worse: completely forgettable. With dated open world design and a monotonous narrative, the cracking combat of a Team Ninja title is left to try and pick up the pieces. It manages to get the title in acceptable shape, and with its Bonds system and culture clash, just about forms an experience one could enjoy. Where it falls apart is the fact the open world is so intrinsically linked to all these features and mechanics that it's impossible to find pleasure in them for any respectable length of time. Rise of the Ronin is designed to attract a wider audience than Team Ninja titles past; what they find might put them off for good.

Si uno no tiene cuidado con una afilada katana, se arriesga a cortarse. Por suerte, Rise of the Ronin desenvaina de forma certera gracias a un combate sublime y a una historia muy atractiva para los amantes del Japón más samurái. Princess Peach: Showtime! is more closely aligned with Kirby and Yoshi’s simple, cheery romps rather than Mario’s polished platformers and Luigi’s haunted mansions. There’s fun to be found in the Sparkle Theater, as these delightfully simplified takes on some of gaming’s most popular genres are entertaining to blast through, and the whimsical stage play aesthetic gives Peach’s game an identity all its own. I’m also thrilled that Nintendo is finally giving Peach another crack at her own solo outing after nearly two decades, and I hope this is the start of an ongoing spinoff series within the wider Mario universe. Some noticeable performance issues and the frustrating lack of a chapter select means I won’t be returning for an encore, and I wish there were a few extra levels to lengthen the somewhat brief campaign, but Nintendo and Princess Peach at least know how to put on a good show.
