Pour un premier jeu à l'ambition AAA, Ascendant Studios livre une bonne surprise. On ressent sans effort le soin apporté à la mise en scène et au contexte de guerre qui fait, encore aujourd'hui, les belles heures heures de Call of Duty. L'histoire, sans être révolutionnaire, fait ce qu'on attend d'elle : proposer une justification solide au conflit qui a lieu dans Aveum. En bonus, elle peut divertir une certaine partie des joueurs sujet au sacarsmes et à l'humour potache. Enfin, Immortals of Aveum propose également des combats dynamiques et nerveux, comme sur un champ de bataille. Dommage que les zones vides, clairement épargnées par le conflit, les quelques longueurs en fin de partie et la lisibilité de certains affrontements viennent ternir le tableau. En tout état de cause, Ascendant Studio parvient à jeter des fondations solides dans le genre du FPS magique sans toutefois se hisser à la hauteur des plus grands. Tant mieux pour eux alors, puisqu'ils suivent donc le même chemin que leur maître.

Fort Solis presents a thrilling story with fantastic visuals, exceptional voice acting, and heart pounding suspense. What it may lack in mechanical gameplay is more than made up for by really feeling like you are playing a movie. Don't be surprised if you can't put it down and play straight through in a single four hour sitting. I will definitely be checking out Fallen Leaf Studios future projects and Fort Solis has even won me over to the Walking Simulator genre. Don't miss this one.

While the atmosphere in Fort Solis is excellent, backed by great visuals and understated horror, the ambiguous story, poor ending, and cumbersome interaction means that this walking adventure does not always put its best foot forward.

Immortals of Aveum toma prestadas muchas cosas de otros géneros y nos trae una experiencia frenética en primera persona llena de explosiones, luces y color. Lo adereza todo con una historia sorprendentemente compleja para su género y con una dificultad estimulante que invita a variar continuamente nuestro estilo de combate.

Immortals of Aveum es un juego disfrutable, que quizás guste a cierto perfil de jugadores y a amantes del género de la acción. Durante nuestro análisis nos encontramos con problemas técnicos que se nos prometió subsanar con el parche día 1 y subsecuentes actualizaciones, pero también hay bajones gráficos en ciertos apartados del título. Divertido, pero tienes que saber a lo que vienes.

Fort Solis est un walking simulator à la réalisation poussée et réussie. Malheureusement l’aspect ludique est totalement en retrait et les leviers permettant généralement d’y faire abstraction comme une histoire prenante et engageante qui pousse à la réflexion ne sont absolument pas utilisés ici. Si bien que les cinq heures passées sur le jeu finissent plus par ressembler à une marche forcée.

Fort Solis es un proyecto, ante todo, curioso. Me cuesta dividir su lógica base de experiencia cinematográfica del hecho de que este medio se caracteriza por la interacción del jugador. Juega a un nivel diferente, quizá inferior al de los juegos de Quantic Dream y similares. Está en tierra de nadie. Es un aperitivo de muchas cosas, y quizá una experiencia agridulce. Sin embargo, su naturaleza de película de terror espacial bien llevado, con mimo y buena mano a la hora de llevar la tensión adelante, hacen que su condición de "peli de domingo por la tarde" no me haya disgustado del todo.

Less a case of biting off more than it can chew, Immortals of Aveum instead serves up a mixed bag of notable creativity, dragged down by issues both narrative and technical alike. While future patches may go some way to iron out the uneven frame-rate and inconsistent visual quality, the same can’t be said for a brand of writing that’s at best tolerable and at worst, potentially off-putting. Minus one or two secondary characters you’d be happy to see stick around for longer, yet are sadly ditched in service of a plot with brief but ultimately unfulfilled promise. If nothing else, Ascendant Studios could’ve done a lot worse given the tone and the design intentions placed here. What’s left is a game that while doesn’t always put its best foot forward, eventually finds a way to loop back round to feeling curious as to what it has tucked away out of shot. Though it may trip over itself one too many times, Immortals of Aveum‘s rewarding level design, puzzle-solving and potential for custom builds still offers a sufficient amount to carry this “magic-shooter” pitch through to credits’ end.

Immortals of Aveum makes a solid early impression with engaging magic-infused FPS action and eye-catching Unreal Engine 5 visuals, but a predictable plot, irritating characters, and repetitive, by-the-books level design dims the game’s razzle-dazzle. Immortals of Aveum will be worth it for some shooter and fantasy fans, particularly at a discount, but don’t expect your memories of the game to live forever.

Fort Solis è un'esperienza narrativa che abbiamo trovato davvero affascinante, caratterizzata da una direzione molto competente, da interpretazioni solidissime e da un comparto tecnico in Unreal Engine 5 che sorprende per la qualità che è in grado di esprimere, sebbene sul fronte delle prestazioni i risultati lascino ampiamente a desiderare. L'avventura procede con ritmi lenti, pur concludendosi abbastanza in fretta (vi basterà magari un'unica sessione per arrivare in fondo), e potreste dunque neppure notare i cali di frame rate, mentre vi appariranno ben evidenti i limiti di un gameplay così essenziale, che la cosa sia voluta o meno.

Immortals of Aveum est un jeu qui va diviser. Certains n’accepteront pas les errances techniques, d’autres auront du mal avec l’univers magico-technologique particulier, et ceux qui cherchent une maîtrise à la Doom seront déçus. Pourtant, il faut laisser une chance au soft d’Ascendant Games, car la proposition possède de vrais atouts. Son rythme, son contenu plutôt généreux sans tomber dans un quelconque excès, avec de l’exploration gratifiante, un peu de plateforme et d’énigmes, sans grande prise de tête certes, mais dont on apprécie la présence. Sans parler de sa direction artistique et la fraîcheur de ses combats. Avec ça, l’expérience reste agréable à parcourir, ne tombe pas dans la redondance, tout en apportant suffisamment de challenge à qui le veut. Si vous en avez marre des FPS solo un peu trop sommaires, jeter un œil par ici.

Immortals of Aveum è la dimostrazione che delle valide meccaniche di gameplay, unite a una realizzazione generale tutto sommato discreta, possono dar vita a esperienze di gioco single player in grado di poter dire la propria in un mercato dominato da giochi live service e miriadi di proposte free-to-play. L’epopea di Jak nel regno di Aveum regala un piacevole intrattenimento grazie a un approccio libero e variegato a combattimenti quantomai stimolanti, proponendo al contempo momenti in cui emerge il lato più avventuroso e posato dello sparatutto di Ascendant Studios. Le piccole e grandi sbavature di carattere tecnico spezzano però l’idillio magico di un gameplay non certo originale ma indiscutibilmente efficace, a cui non basta neppure una componente ruolistica piuttosto articolata per coprire gli alti e bassi di un frame-rate poco stabile. Immortals of Aveum resta comunque una proposta più che valida nel campo degli sparattutto in prima persona single player, seppur non riesca a entrare nell’esclusivo club degli shooter da giocare almeno una volta nella vita.

Immortals of Aveum è uno sparatutto sorprendente, senz'altro diverso dal solito, caratterizzato da un'ambientazione molto peculiare e suggestiva, ben supportata da un comparto narrativo magari non originale ma capace di coinvolgere e appassionare con i suoi personaggi ben tratteggiati. Sulle prime un po' incerto, il gameplay prende piede rapidamente, catapultandoci all'interno di arene spietate e frenetiche; che da un certo punto in poi diventano forse troppo ostiche, suggerendoci di ripiegare e potenziare il personaggio sfruttando le possibilità di una struttura che però da questo punto di vista non viene minimamente approfondita. Visivamente si è cercato lo spettacolo e le ultime tecnologie, ma le console fanno fatica: scopriremo a breve se per una questione di mera ottimizzazione o di capacità hardware limitate.
