Convergence propone un'offerta ludica sostenuta da un gameplay di buona fattura - al netto di qualche asperità - e da un sistema di progressione per strutturato, che nel corso delle ore arricchisce una formula che parte un po' col freno tirato. Malgrado tutto, giunti alla fine dell'avventura si ha la netta impressione che il team non sia riuscito ad esprimere al meglio il potenziale della propria visione creativa, complice una storia poco ispirata e ben meno efficace di quella vista in The Mageseeker. Al netto delle sue debolezze, però, il titolo rappresenta un'altra buona prova da parte di Riot Forge, in attesa di vedere il terzo e ultimo capitolo degli spin-off di League of Legends.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun è una produzione ispirata, pienamente coerente con l'intenzione di portare la brutalità dell'immaginario del gioco di miniature in un boomer shooter tutto piombo e sangue. Dispensare morte è la cosa che funziona maggiormente, per merito di un gameplay soddisfacente quando si tratta di premere il grilletto, indipendentemente dall'arma impugnata e dalla quantità e varietà di nemici affrontati. La dimensione esplorativa appesantisce un po’ l’esperienza ludica, ma quando arriva il momento di ridurre i nemici a informi poltiglie rosse ci si pensa di meno.

Warhammer 40.000 Boltgun si è dimostrato una piacevole sorpresa come FPS old-school. Lo stile retro (unito ad un comparto grafico che unisce 2D al 3D) è molto godibile da vedere e da vivere. Il gameplay si presenta con delle meccaniche di gioco molto divertenti e stimolanti, oltre ad un sistema di shooting intrigante e che potrà garantirvi tante ore di divertimento fino alla conclusione dell’avventura principale. Anche il level design è studiato nei minimi particolari e garantisce tante possibilità al giocatore. Purtroppo, l’IA non mi è sembrata particolarmente efficiente e la parte narrativa all’interno di Warhammer 40.000 Boltgun è quasi del tutto inesistente. Ma nonostante questo, mi sento di consigliare fortemente questo titolo ai fan di vecchia data, agli amanti degli sparatutto in prima persona e agli appassionati del franchise di Warhammer 40.000.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is a solid throwback FPS that makes up for being too generous with the resources by its excellent weapon, monster and level design. The world of Warhammer 40,000 translates fantastically well to this type of game, with decades of lore and design to draw from to create a fully-realized backdrop. The enemies come in a variety of styles from various normal humans to huge and deadly aliens, and they all mix together well to create firefights that need just enough in the way of tactics to keep the brain a little bit active. The only real challenge, though, comes from the game encouraging sloppy play in its frequent less intense sections, so when it’s time to pay attention it can be easy to get caught off guard using bad habits. Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is an oddly slow burn, but when it finally fires up in the latter half, the action feels worthy of the righteous might of a Space Marine.

Si vous prenez After Us pour ce qu’il est au niveau narratif mais également au niveau artistique, vous ferez assurément une bonne pioche. Grâce à ses thèmes forts, marquants, magnifiquement mis en scène dans de terribles théâtres de désolation, la faute à une espèce humaine qui n’a pas su tirer la sonnette d’alarme de sa propre perte, le tout agrémenté d’une colorimétrie, mais aussi d’éclairages subtils mais parfaitement maitrisés, le studio Piccolo parvient à nous embarquer dans une sorte de jardin d’Eden satisfaisant. Mais malheureusement, si l’on considère l’œuvre dans son entièreté, et donc avec l’apport de sa technique au global, c’est un peu la douche froide pour le nouveau jeu des barcelonais (qui nous avaient pourtant habitués à l’excellence avec Arise: A Simple Story), qui s’offre à nous avec un nombre incalculable de carences techniques, surtout dans sa seconde moitié. Nul doute que tout ceci sera corrigé dans de futurs patchs à venir et cela ne dénigre en rien le message et l’attention portée au sens artistique du titre qui parvient à nous lancer en pleine figure ce que nous faisons de notre pauvre Terre au quotidien et ce vers quoi notre civilisation tend inexorablement.
