Quatre ans après Fallen Order, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor s’affirme comme une suite d’une efficacité redoutable. L’évolution de Cal Kestis est étonnante et permet de bâtir un récit qu’on prend beaucoup de plaisir à suivre, d’autant que les codes de l’univers sont respectés à la lettre. En termes de mise en scène et de narration, Survivor n’a rien d’un Padawan. Malheureusement, on a naïvement pensé que Star Wars Jedi: Survivor pouvait devenir un incontournable, au regard des solides bases posées par son prédécesseur. Hélas, certains défauts de gameplay n’ont pas été gommés, sans doute par crainte de tout dénaturer. À l’image d’un chevalier Jedi, le jeu doit batailler avec le côté obscur qui ne demande qu’à le séduire. Et il lui arrive parfois d’y succomber.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor est une suite époustouflante à Fallen Order. Les développeurs ont su tirer parti des forces du premier jeu, tout en corrigeant ses quelques défauts. L'exploration est prenante, variée et offre un monde semi ouvert bien pensé avec un level design génial. Les combats sont engageants avec cinq postures différentes à maîtriser. L'aspect de personnalisation est très poussé et nous offre une aventure sur mesure. Une très grande réussite pour l'univers Star Wars !

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes what Fallen Order achieved and wall-runs with it, then double-jumps and air-dashes straight into an epic lightsaber battle. Rather than taking us back to square one to begin Cal’s journey as a Padawan again, we’re trusted with control of a full-fledged Jedi Knight who we can grow into a master of superhuman mobility and fantastic and challenging combat. With a new set of larger, more diverse, and densely packed worlds to explore and a memorable cast of returning characters, Survivor tells a story that may be predictable but is still fun and at times emotional to watch play out. Launch performance issues aside, it’s a sequel that does virtually everything better than the original – which was already an exceptional Star Wars game. If Respawn makes one more like this it’ll complete the best Star Wars trilogy in 30 years, hands down.

Complaints aside, the talented developers of Aurogon Shanghai and Netera Entertainment should be proud of what they have accomplished with Afterimage. It nails the inherent excitement of exploration and discovery that fuels a Metroidvania and it does so with its own distinct visual identity. If you are a fan of the new wave of Metroidvanias, this is a title to watch out for. Do not miss it.
