Non possiamo negare che nei panni di Alex ci siamo divertiti a scoprire una versione fantasiosa (ma neanche troppo) del Regno Unito alle prese con una nuova classe politica emergente, con folli ideali ed imprese surreali. Il punto cardine dell'esperienza è la satira, incentrata prevalentemente sulla politica e sugli scandali, che seppur esagerati per strappare una risata divertono proprio per i rimandi alla società attuale. Rimane comunque una nota di dispiacere sulla mancanza della localizzazione in italiano, fattore che potrebbe allontanare molti utenti all'acquisto di questa piccola esperienza dal taglio pungente e satirico.

Souffrant malheureusement de comparaisons au jeu dont il est tiré, Road 96: Mile 0 n’arrive pas à emporter l’adhésion sur toute la proposition qu’il nous fait. Très agréable lors des phases musicales de ride au sein d’univers variés, et nous berçant de mélodies toutes formidables, le jeu perd de sa superbe quand il s’agit des phases d’exploration, trop limitées dans ce qu’elles proposent, mais aussi dans les lieux traversés, tout en nous forçant à rejouer à l’intégralité de l’histoire pour apercevoir les changements promis en fonction des choix, ou pour compléter notre collection d’objets à ramasser. Ajoutons à cela une narration bien plus manichéenne et moins subtile que dans l’opus précédent, une durée de vie très courte et des personnages moins attachants, et l’on obtient finalement un titre au résultat mitigé, malgré les bonnes intentions des développeurs et leurs coups de maîtres précédents. Reste que si vous avez aimé l’univers du jeu de base, vous aimerez certainement celui-ci, d’autant plus qu’il est disponible à petit prix et sur toutes les plateformes.

If co-op shooters are your bread and butter and you’ve picked up a PSVR2, you should certainly give After the Fall a whirl. Gunplay is tight, and the core experience feels well-suited to VR, producing nail-biting moments that will stick in your memory. The problem that cools off the good times had is the lack of interesting content. The missions, weapons, enemies and modes on offer are entertaining, but there aren’t enough of them to keep me coming back time and time again.

There is a devilishly fun roguelite hiding in Mighty Doom, but the way it’s been buried under all the most egregious money-making schemes in mobile gaming is hugely disappointing. I enjoyed the first few hours, when monsters posed an entertaining challenge I could satisfyingly overcome, and I would probably be happy to recommend it if Bethesda had balanced all nine levels to match. But it’s not long before a super-powered difficulty spike meant my Slayer’s defense and damage output just couldn’t keep up — at least, not without opening my wallet. Even when you do, this invisible paywall and the free-to-play speed bumps that accompany it turn Mighty Doom into a teeth-grindingly frustrating experience that made me want to delete the app entirely rather than pay to upgrade my Slayer enough to progress.

La divinità cosmica immaginata da H.P. Lovecraft rimane immersa nel suo eterno sonno, perché nell'interessante miscuglio videoludico architettato da Frogwares è soprattutto l'influenza di Arthur Conan Doyle a trainare una narrazione fatta di indagini e delitti comuni, mentre gli orrori dei piani astrali rimangono sottotraccia e si lasciano soltanto sfiorare in brevi sequenze. La trama dell'opera - che ricordiamo essere stata confezionata in un contesto molto difficile per i suoi creatori - mantiene un buon ritmo che porta a soprassedere sull'eccessivo patetismo di alcuni scambi di battute e, sebbene non proponga nulla di originale all'interno del vastissimo panorama dedicato a Sherlock Holmes, intrattiene per le circa sette ore necessarie a completare l'avventura.

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened Remake est un jeu d’aventure sympathique où l’on prend du plaisir à voir la pensée logique et rationnelle de Sherlock Holmes se heurter à l’univers surnaturel du mythe de Cthulhu. Si on peut lui reprocher un manque d’innovation général et la présence de quelques défauts ici et là, tout le travail abattu par Frogwares afin de lui donner une seconde vie mérite le respect, surtout compte tenu des conditions loin d’être idéales dans lesquelles il a été conçu. Une belle réussite.

Se il precedente Chapter One tentava senza troppo successo la strada dell’open-world investigativo, con Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened Frogwares torna a una formula più congeniale e ristretta, con meno elementi dispersivi e una maggior concentrazione su deduzioni, enigmi e puzzle nella tradizione della serie. Il bello di questa operazione remake è soprattutto il fatto che sia un gioco profondamente diverso da quello originale di 16 anni fa, tanto che persino considerarlo un remake è qualcosa di riduttivo. Se quindi vi piacciono le indagini investigative, la raccolta di indizi e le atmosfere vittoriane (e riuscite a passare sopra a un comparto grafico non proprio esaltante), Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened saprà darvi parecchie soddisfazioni.

Nonostante le serie difficoltà a causa della guerra, Frogwares ha messo in piedi un'avventura intrigante, nonostante nei suoi 8 capitoli si nasconda una longevità contenuta (che gli obiettivi secondari aiutano un po'). Il remake di Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened porta con sé poco o nulla del predecessore, se non la trama, col tutto che è stato riplasmato e adattato per il nuovo sistema di gioco - e il nuovo Sherlock - nati con Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One. Non avrete mai troppa paura, ma sarete estremamente confusi e ansiosi per ciò che può capitare ai nostri beniamini. La difficoltà è piuttosto bilanciata, tendente al facile se siete avvezzi a questo genere di giochi, mentre dal punto di vista tecnico il gioco si difende senza infamia né lode.

Sherlock Holmes The Awakened is a competent remake featuring all the best features the series is known for, such as an engaging mystery and solid investigative gameplay. While the game is lacking in terms of innovation, doing away with the open-world setting seen in Chapter One, Frogwares developed Sherlock Holmes The Awakened it in less than a year and in the middle of a war, so no one should be disappointed that the game doesn't feel much different from past entries in the franchise.

In definitiva, Sherlock Holmes The Awakened è un remake preciso e dritto al punto, dedicato al mondo dell’investigatore privato e al mito di Chtullu. Oltre ad aver definito in modo talentuoso le particolarità di Frogwares, è un titolo preciso e che arriva all’obiettivo, usando un linguaggio semplice e chiaro per descrivere accuratamente le meraviglie del miglior investigatore privato al mondo. Un’occasione da non perdere.
