Updated graphics and player visuals are what make FIFA 14 worth picking up. The stadiums and fields look spectacular, though some minor issues with gameplay elements can bring the game back down a notch. For a title that may not have been rushed, but definitely hurried for launch, EA Sports did a good job in getting soccer fans their fix.

With an emphasis on customization and an ambitious multiplayer mode, Armored Core: Verdict Day is a game I respect. Unfortunately, it's not a game I had much fun playing. Too much of my time was spent figuring out the nuance of an admittedly complicated game. Fans will likely eat this sequel up, but Verdict Day makes it hard for newcomers and casual mech fans alike.

An OK effort for an Arkham game, Batman Arkham Origins feels too similar to Arkham City and there are a few game breaking bugs that prevent it from being worthy to stand with the other two.

Flying Wild Hog has topped their previous game, Hard Reset, in nearly every respect with Shadow Warrior. A myriad of beautiful environments, crazy but balanced and innovative combat, and a smoother difficulty curve prove that the Polish studio has graphical, level and gameplay design talent to spare. Don’t miss this one.

Alien Rage is a game whose initial presentation evokes the likes of Halo, Gears of War, and Killzone, but never lives up to such standards. Frustrating and often unfair difficulty, tedious boss fights, and bland level design make this game feel like an empty shell of its lofty inspirations. In a genre saturated with great games, you could do much better than Alien Rage.

Skylanders Swap Force brings back a very familiar game with a few upgrades and a slug of new characters. Those that are huge fans of the franchise will be comfortable with this familiarity, while those that are just getting into the game for the first time will find a very fun and additive title. For either group, be prepared to add to your Skylanders figurine collection, as there are more areas than ever that require specific Swap Force, Giant or base series elemental Skylanders to unlock and complete all facets of the missions. Although I really like Swap Force and am a huge proponent of the franchise, I have concerns that if fundamental changes are not made to the game play to keep the original aging audience from the previous titles of the franchise engaged, these gamers (and their parents) will lose interest over time.

BioShock Infinite and The Last of Us are incredible games, but this has easily secured my vote for 2013‘s game of the year. Dragon’s Crown is a masterpiece. The gameplay is simple enough for casual play but offers deep components to compliment it for those who want more from their games on both single and multiplayer levels. RPG and action fans alike will easily get lost in this magnificent world for hundreds of hours. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it just might be the most beautiful video game I have ever seen.

Arma 3 is the definite game in the military simulation series from Bohemia Interactive. From massive and highly-detailed environments to expansive collections of weapons and vehicles, Arma 3 is a modern military sandbox for both players and modders. Arma 3's most exciting aspects are the built-in editor, Steam Workshop support, and near endless possibilities of community-created scenarios. Arma 3 refines and masters the military simulation genre.

The story and dialog aren't anything new or interesting. In fact, there isn't much about Alien Rage: Unlimited that brings anything new to the table. But there's a lot about it that hits you right in the nostalgia. If you grew up Unreal Tournament and Halo like I did, and you're looking for a game where you blow stuff because it's fun- Alien Rage: Unlimited is worth your $19.99.

I can happily say that even if you aren’t a fan of the series you will enjoy this game -- granted you enjoy Dynasty Warriors-style beat 'em ups. I know I did. So much, in fact, that I would be interested in watching the TV show. If you are a huge fan of the series then I’m going to assume that you will love the game as well. It has something for everyone and that is what makes a great game in my opinion. There is nothing I love more than playing a game that I normally would have passed up and discovering an amazing new game that I had nothing but a pleasure playing.

With friends, Payday 2 delivers a multiplayer experience unlike anything else. The levels are wonderfully complicated and the leveling system is incredibly deep. Too bad the learning curve keeps the game just out of arm's reach for most newcomers. A rough single-player mode and unfriendly online matches mar an otherwise fun first-person shooter.

This is one of the safest Disgaea games I've played, which isn't a bad thing -- it's a ton of fun. But after ten years of this stuff maybe the subtitle for Disgaea D2 should have been "Now That's What I Call Disgaea!"

With so many great ideas in The Chaos Engine, it pains me to admit that I didn't have much fun. I love the world it creates, the diverse enemies and the science fiction story, but can't get past the punishing difficulty and cheap hits. This enhanced version needs a few more enhancements to be ready for the 21st century!
