There is the skeleton of a good game in here: a multiplayer-focused Smash Bros clone starring Cartoon Network characters. But it's just too buried under poor controls and a mediocre single player campaign to achieve fun status.

F1 experts have probably already been racing their way through the home console versions of this title since September. With the 3DS version's odd A.I., it's hard to recommend that Formula fans give this edition a go. Codemasters knows racing -- but when they pass off portable development to other teams, you've got to be wary.

Tintin only has itself to blame for its shortcomings: for every exciting moment there’s a turgid interlude which drags the overall experience down. While these distractions are more tedious bore than hair-pulling aggravation there’s no doubt their omission would’ve made for a tighter and ultimately better game. By shoe-horning variety into the game it loses its focus, which combined with silly game design decisions – the dogfights really should’ve been left on the drawing board – and a handful of game-breaking bugs – Tintin crashed on more than one occasion during review – it’s hard to recommend this to anyone other than diehard fans of both the comics and the movie.

Whereas the console version of Sonic Generations is a blending of old and new mentality in a fast-paced speed fest, the 3DS version is mostly just a Sonic Rush game where both playable characters happen to be Sonic. Fun platforming and nostalgia are all up in the game, but it’s actually a small step backwards for handheld hedgehog games. That shouldn’t stop any blue blur fans from enjoying themselves, but this isn’t the Sonic renaissance they may have expected.

WWE All Stars was a good wrestling game when it first shipped to stores this past Spring. Not a great one -- since it had a few issues holding it back -- but still a good one, with a fun premise of making the past and present of the WWE come together and collide. And now, eight months later on the 3DS, it's still a good game. It's just disappointing that the developers only added a handful of mostly inconsequential extra modes in the interim, and didn't take that extra time available to fix a few of the first versions' flaws.

I didn’t love the original Infinity Blade as much as most gamers, but Chair addressed each and every concern with the sequel, and made the game more than four times bigger to boot. I’m now a complete believer. I can’t wait for what else the studio has in store.

Scene It? Movie Night's greatest accomplishment isn't what it does with itself, but the raucous, emotionally reactive intensity it brings out in competitive players. My group had a 10/10 time with what amounts to a pretty average game; the production value is lower than is ordinary with Scene It games, but it didn't derail the expected good times we had with competitive movie trivia. Sometimes the fun that comes because of a game is more important than whatever successes or failures it has within it.

While the subject matter is full of exciting potential, the imprecise controls and repetitive movements across events keep Motionsports Adrenaline from becoming a hit. Compounded with the lack of real punishment or consequences, Motionsports Adrenaline simply fails to leave a lasting mark on the motion-game scene.

Just resist the temptation to look up some online FAQ or fan-made map when you play it. Experience it as it is. Which is as it was. Which is how the entire Metroid series was once, 20 years ago.

You need a clear, unified vision to shape a game into something that makes sense and compels the player to see it through to the end But scares and gameplay in Afterfall fall flat as scene after scene repeat the same notes, turning what could have been a spine-chilling adventure into a treadmill to an unsatisfying finish. The lesson to be learned here isn’t that smaller developers can’t make awesome games, but if they want to make something truly great it probably shouldn’t come from a consensus of people scattered. Multiple personalities in the mind, or in game design, apparently results in nothing short of madness. And not the good kind, either.
