Though a limited in many ways, it's still easy to have a good time with Hard Reset. It's a classically styled shooter where your main concern is how to blow stuff up as fast as possible without losing all your health. The disposable story and flat characters shouldn't be surprising for a game like this, but other issues like a the lack of enemy variety and short overall length are disappointing. Despite that, the versatility of the weapon system and flashy visuals make Flying Wild Hog's product exciting from beginning to end. If all you're looking to do is shoot at things and watch them break apart into pretty pieces, you'll get what you want in Hard Reset.

Radiant Silvergun has a lot to offer: you can play it like a manic shooter and enjoy the weapons and skillful dodging, or you can make it more cerebral and go for the ridiculous color combos. Either way, you're getting one of the very best 2D shooters ever made. This is one of those games that slowly reveals more and more of itself to you through repetition. Put in the time, and it will make you feel like a badass.

I’m having a blast with Tropico 4, but I know it’s not for everyone. Tracking stats, managing an economy and building a million projects at once keeps me engaged, but without a little patience to learn the interface it’ll overwhelm many a strategy newcomer.. Still, if you’re the type that’s spent hours with the likes of Civilization or Sim City, or has an unhealthy need to be in control, then it’s time to become el presidente.

NHL 12 is a huge game completely jam-packed with modes and gameplay features. Naming them all and going through everything would take this review into New Yorker Magazine word-count. And that’s a good sign, especially for fans of the series and of hockey in general. If you purchase EA’s NHL offering yearly, keep on keeping on. And if you’re like me, a fan of the sport who has strayed away from the series in recent years, NHL 12 gives you plenty of reasons to get back into the game. NHL 12 has its problems, to be certain, but most of what it does it does so well that the series persists as a fan-favorite nearly 20 years after its introduction.

If you've never played a Men of War game before, Vietnam is as good a place to start as any. There's an incredible depth to the tactical options available, and single-player scenarios are clever, challenging and varied. It's far from a perfect game -- inconsistent AI, a campaign that borders on the short side, and limited multiplayer options certainly hamper the experience -- but there's a lot of challenging satisfaction to be found beneath the thick jungle canopy.

All told, SkyDrift is a pleasant surprise and an impressive feat from Digital Reality. Something is just beautifully chaotic about the savagery of nailing other planes amidst serene-looking landscapes. This is a fun, arcade-style racer that offers surprising depth and rewards smart play. If you're a fan of racing games or picking other planes out of the sky, SkyDrift is definitely worth checking out.

Space Marine may stumble here and there, but manages to remain entertaining from start to finish. For every moment where a character gets stuck on part of the environment, has an animation that breaks, or just randomly pops into the world, I’m left remembering great boss battles and encounters that made me feel like a badass. It may not be the best or most original action game, but it’s a fine first outing for the franchise, and a rare gem for Warhammer fans.

The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection reminds me that video games can match the evocative and thrilling qualities of any other creative medium. While Ico's gameplay mechanics show their age and Shadow of the Colossus didn't quite take me to the same place it took me more than five years ago, this collection astounds. Technical updates aside, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus deserve more than just one trip down memory lane.

There's no arguing that IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover should never, ever have been released in the condition it was. Neither the developer or the publisher should expect forgiveness. And certainly it will always remain a difficult go for flight sim newbies. However, there's one hell of a game in there, trying to escape. And I think, given the responsiveness and the past track record of the development team and the plans that lie ahead in the next few months, that escape will soon occur. At the very least, anyone who wants to experience the controls of a real World War II-era combat aircraft would do well to at least keep this game on their personal radar. We may one day have an aerial Grand Prix Legends on our hands. Maybe.

Dead Island probably won't win any game of the year awards. It's got visual bugs, the controls take a bit to feel normal, and the presentation in general isn't up to snuff. But the game gets a lot right. There is a huge world to explore, thousands of zombies to kill, and tons of side quests to take. Here on the other side of a 25-hour playthrough -- where I skipped a lot of side quests after Act 1 -- I'm anxious to get back into Dead Island, and despite the game's flaws, that's not something I say often.

One thing concerns me about BloodRayne: Betrayal. Many gamers won’t give it a chance because of the BloodRayne moniker associated with it. But it would be a mistake to ignore a game like this. Betrayal isn’t for everyone, but for classic gamers looking for a hard romp, it’ll prove to be a great success.

For 10 bucks I got a solid day’s worth of entertainment from the collection, fueled largely by the amount of people who came by my desk to play a round with me. Unless online gets patched I don’t see myself going back there, and honestly unless somebody asks me to load it up, I won’t be playing the Arcade Kollection much after this week. But ripping out spines, and desperately trying to remember the right spam moves to beat Motaro was a fun nostalgia break. Whether that’s worth ten bucks to you depends on how diehard of an MK fan you are.

When deciding whether or not to pick up The Baconing you should consider how you felt about Thongs of Virtue. If all you want to do is play more DeathSpank, then this will certainly do the trick. For me, once was apparently enough. If you’re a DeathSpank virgin and like loot-based hack ‘n slash games, give The Baconing a try before you buy.
