And in the end, the gameplay just doesn’t make Heatseeker a must-have Wii title. Dogfights are relatively basic, as you’ll usually be able to target and obliterate enemy fighters well before they’re in range, and when you do get into heated fights it’s usually a pretty quick and manageable situation. Graphically the game can be extremely painful, as it often rests at PSP quality, and the overall presentation isn’t much better, as menu navigation and pre-flight is pretty basic as well. Heatseeker has its moments, and they usually result in a blaze of glory that’ll get your heart pumping, but those moments are few and far between, as the majority of the game is a low-res, basic flight experience with very little to justify its “next generation” title. You’ll have just as much fun playing Afterburner for SEGA Genesis when it releases on VC, or reliving the “all range mode” battles in Star Fox 64.

15 games for 30 bucks is a pretty good deal when you consider that Konami's forcing a few of these titles on Xbox Live gamers for five bucks a pop. None of these games have a tremendous amount of depth, but the developers did a great job bulking up the presentation with lots of customization, extras, and wireless modes. More games would obviously have been better, but it's clear that Konami drew the line somewhere in preparation for a possible Konami Classics Series Arcade Hits 2; I mean, we don't have Frogger, Gyruss, Blades of Steel, Double Dribble, and countless other Konami classics. But for a first outing on the Nintendo DS, Konami's team pulled off a really good collection.

The Shivering Isles is an entirely worthy addition to Bethesda's stellar fourth entry in The Elder Scrolls series. It respects a player's ability to make decisions, offers some useful armor sets and weapons, delivers a vivid, more imaginative variation of the traditional high fantasy province of Cyrodiil, and will reinvigorate that addictive itch for exploration inspired by Oblivion. If you've weaned yourself off the Elder Scrolls IV since its release, this expansion is a great excuse to jump back in, if only to experience Sheogorath's bizarre tangential meanderings.

Meet the Robinsons is – at its heart – a movie/game. The gameplay is basic, but it takes inspiration from more fleshed out titles, and it all works well. The license is the primary focus of the title (obviously), so you’ll spend just as much time living in the world, interacting with the characters, and watching movie-inspired cuts-scenes as you will engaging, nail-biting gameplay, but that’s part of what makes the sub-genre work. Meet the Robinsons has the overall look of the film, the original voice actors make an appearance, and as an extension to the movie it’s a fine choice for younger gamers or families. There’s no true Wii functionality added in, and the only difference between versions is the poly count and graphical detail. There’s very little true innovation in the design, but a mix of entertaining gadgets keeps the experience from becoming mundane. All in all Meet the Robinsons is a solid effort, lacks some of the overall polish of games with a higher budget and longer development time, but it fulfills its goal of tying the film world to an interactive medium; an exact definition to what we consider a “good” game.

As a 1993 release, Spinball benefited from a few years' worth of experience with the Genesis hardware – the system had been on the market for a while, Sonic was already established as a major mascot character, and there were even a couple of cartoons hitting the airwaves here in the States around the same time as this game's release. It was the perfect time for a solid Sonic spin-off game to complement the main platformer series, and Spinball filled that position well. It's not a perfect game – there are aspects of the control that could have been tighter, and its difficulty level may be a bit too extreme for new players. But it's a good option for Sonic fans, or pinball fans, or anyone who likes the idea of a game based on the concept of repeatedly hitting the hedgehog with giant metal flippers.

Medal of Honor Vanguard was clearly designed for PlayStation 2 and upgraded for Wii. Games developed in this manner have a tendency to show barely-tweaked visuals and tacked on controls, but Vanguard looks notably sharper and plays significantly better on Nintendo's system. I've scored it lower than our sister site, though, because Wii is simply capable of so much more. Vanguard arrives on PS2 at the end of its life cycle, but it comes to Wii at the beginning and it barely scratches the surface of what's really possible. Even with that being true, Vanguard is fun and pretty wartime first-person shooter on Nintendo's Wii and If you played Call of Duty 3 and want something more atmospheric, this is your game. Its overall presentation is much better and the resulting experience much more engaging. Plus, it's got a decent four-player compatible multiplayer mode, which CoD lacked completely. But Vanguard's controls, while adequate, are looser than Activision's shooter, which is a disappointment. The developer has almost made up for the less desirable responsiveness with a host of control intricacies, from an analog lean in sights mode to a quick 180 turn and a sprint option and they're all welcomed additions. And yet, none of them mask that basic control shortcoming entirely. If you can live with it, and I suspect many can, you will undoubtedly find Vanguard to be an entertaining and intense first-person shooter. For me, this is just the beginning of better games to come. I don't want to choose between tight controls or good graphics. I expect them both.

Thumbs way up for Ubisoft producing an original design for the handhelds instead of relegating the PSP as another system for the console design. But I just can't be as enthusiastic for the final product; it's certainly not terrible and the rhythmic jumping action has some fun and energy, but the fact remains that the game just ends up feeling inconsistent due to sloppy storytelling and, more importantly, an absolutely awful fighting engine.
