Mortal Kombat II still manages to stand up almost 15 years later as one of the best arcade fighters around. The inclusion of online play only strengthens the replayability of the game, and were it not for the fact that the online mode has a number of problems, the PSN version of Mortal Kombat II could've been even stronger than the arcade release. Even still, this is a solid port that every single Mortal Kombat fan should have.

Prince of Persia: Rival Swords is a good handheld retelling of The Two Thrones. The atmospheric storyline remains intact and the game includes all the fun and engaging platforming and combat sequences of the console-based titles. Additionally, there is new content -- a real baffler since Ubisoft also made a Wii version that doesn't include it... and yet, there are drawbacks that keep the game from getting a higher score. Load times are still ever-present. The dual-analog nature of the Prince series has proved to problematic in the transition to Sony's handheld; you'll have to hold down the L button to control the camera and you can't move Prince around and change your viewing angle at the same time. And the game just runs slower, with a sometimes-sluggish framerate. In the end, you're still left with a fun Prince of Persia outing, but there is little doubt that the title is best played on your television and not on the go.

The Wonder Boy series has a strong fan following that still exists today. Dragon's Curse doesn't have the Wonder Boy branding, but it is almost the exact same game as the Master System hit Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap -- and seeing that this version is graphically and audibly updated, that's not a bad thing.

That said, it is nice to see an adventure game maker trying to do something other than the realistic point and click adventure slide shows that seem to be so prevalent these days. Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle reminds me of the days when LucasArts had mastered the art of point and click adventuring with games like Maniac Mansion, Sam & Max, and Grim Fandango where crazy stories could happen outside of real-world influence. Runaway doesn't get everything right, in fact, there are some very frustrating aspects to the gameplay, but the story is wacky enough and art style fun enough that adventure gamers may way to give this one a shot.

Theme Park first arrived in the mid-90s. It came to PCs, and then various home consoles including the Genesis, SNES and PlayStation. The sim genre was already established by that time, with Will Wright's SimCity revolutionizing how people sank their time into gaming. But Theme Park was a revolution, too, in its own regard. It was the creation of Bullfrog Productions and Peter Molyneux – Peter Molyneux, who's since gone on to create such hits as Dungeon Keeper, Black & White and Fable. In Theme Park Peter created the first real business management sim. This wasn't about creating a sprawling metropolis, it was about creating a successful, profitable amusement park – and tweaking and adjusting each little variable option in order to make just a bit more cash from every hapless visitor. The vision and fun live on here in this new version, the first time Theme Park's ever gone portable. And though you'll definitely see that this game came from over a decade ago, you'll still have a lot of fun changing ticket prices, hiring guys in rhino costumes, and cleaning up after queasy kids just stepping off the rollercoaster.

I probably sound like a turtle-hater. I actually really enjoyed this game as a kid and even made it to the end (which is quite the feat), but upon revisiting the game over a decade later it becomes increasingly apparent that the game is inherently flawed and simply doesn't stand the test of time. Fun is a very subjective concept, and there is doubtless nostalgic presence that will suck fans into downloading this title. However, the game's arcade version (also released in 1989) and sequels were far better, making this particular title difficult to recommend. Add to the mix a seemingly arbitrary price increase of 100 Wii points, this download will likely be relegated to the libraries of only the most hardcore fans.

As a true collection of the Metal Slug series, the PS2 version stands tall above the rest, as it houses the shortest load times, allows for full arcade stick support, and performs at a faster, slicker rate than its PSP and Wii buddies. Menus load quicker, the games run faster (due to a lack of mid-level loading), and the ability to use the control set-up you want is priceless. The games themselves stand up pretty well over the last ten years, though each has more of a low-res look that now accompanies the beautiful 2D animation. There was no clean-up made to the art for the PS2 release, and emulated slowdown occurs where it traditionally did back in late-90’s cabinets, but if you’re looking for one solid collection of each of the seven Metal Slug games you won’t find a better one out there. In fact, even at its $39.99 price point Anthology still delivers seven titles at just under six bucks a pop, which is an amazing deal when comparing that to Metal Slug 3 or Metal Slug 4 & 5 that released years ago on PS2 and Xbox at the same price. You’re getting every major page of Metal Slug history, minimal load, a couple basic extras, and a ton of action. Whether you snatch this off the shelf immediately, wait for a price drop, or rent it for a throwback night of arcade bliss, grab a friend and put some quality time into one of SNK’s greatest franchises. And be sure to do it on PS2; it’s the best version available hands-down.

Guitar Hero II on Xbox 360 is the best iteration of the hit music rhythm game yet, but it's also an important addition to the Xbox 360 library. On a console dominated by shooters and action titles, it is one of the few titles that everyone can and will enjoy. RedOctane and Harmonix put their best foot forward with this release. The result is a port that adds enough content to make it worth a second look from the hardcore fans, especially with the downloadable songs, and a game that is put together so well that all newcomers should give it a try. It's a bit pricey at $90 and doesn't have the wireless guitar we all hoped for, but worth it.

Test Drive Unlimited was originally built around the idea of removing the distinction between single and multiplayer racing. Unfortunately, most of what made that idea so fresh and unique doesn’t hold up well on the PSP. On the plus side, the impressive technology and solid racing make this game worth a look anyways. Driving around Oahu on a handheld is pleasant in its look and relaxing in its feel. The idea of a Massively Open Online Racer didn’t quite come through, but the end result on the PSP is a solid racing game even if it doesn’t match up in terms of content or structure with the PC or Xbox 360.

Luxor 2 isn’t breaking any new ground if you’re a fan of the original, but then again it doesn’t have to. Why fix what wasn’t broken in the first place? Offering solid and challenging game play is more important to me than possibly muddling the experience, and the puzzle Pharaohs make sure that conquering this game will be no easy adventure.

The bottom line is that Rival Swords is the same game as The Two Thrones with added Wii controls that sometimes better the experience and sometimes worsen it, but if I had to choose, I'd take a traditional control setup to the new gesture system. Bearing that in mind, I'm telling you to pick up the GameCube version of Two Thrones and play it on Wii if you need a fix of Prince of Persia. It's a lot cheaper and you aren't sacrificing the gore factor, if that's your thing. At the same time, I'm conceding that if you do buy Rival Swords for Nintendo's next-generation console, you won't be walking away with a bad game. It is nearly as fun and engaging today as it was when it was first released in December of 2005 for the other systems. I have, however, scored it significantly lower on Wii than on the other systems. I've done that not only because it's a year-late port, but also because the newly added controls actually lessen the end gameplay endeavor and because Ubisoft has otherwise brought nothing new to the table, choosing to completely ignore the prospect of adding new content or using Wii's added horsepower to its fullest.

Rocky Balboa the game is the complete opposite of Rocky Balboa the movie. That is, it isn't very interesting and it has a severe lack of fun. Had the control scheme been simplified and the movements been made looser, Rocky could have had a better chance. Stronger quality control and faster load times would have helped too. As it stands now, though, the Italian Stallion's last fight isn't a memorable one... or to quote Rocky's trainer Duke from the previous motion picture, "It's a hurtin' bomb."

Honeycomb Beat's a nice try at giving DS gamers a unique puzzle design, but ultimately it's nothing more than a basic diversion. It offers challenge for a few hours of play, but without that little addictive spark it's hard to see this game ever making it up into the ranks of other handheld puzzle games. This would have made a really good option in a collection of puzzle games, but it has a hard time standing on its own.
