Here is what it boils down to: shooting things is fun. Shooting things, when properly presented, is one hell of a lot of fun, and Gungrave presents more shooting packed more densely with more impressive style than just about any other game in the last several years. Not even Devil May Cry comes quite this far in the style department, and in comparison, it certainly doesn't measure up in the continuous-shooting department, containing as it did far too many unforgivable lapses in the tempo of gunfire. Going into Gungrave, then, recognize that this is a straightforward old-school shooter with a bit of depth to master and a few forgivable flaws, and things should go just fine. If you demand more length and depth from your games nowadays, and there's nothing wrong with that, go forth and sin no more. There are certainly plenty of other games to receive your attention. For now, however, I have a fever, and I believe the only prescription is shooting things.

Ultimately I'd have to say that as a realistic F1 sim this one takes a back seat to EA's title. However, if they could find a way to release a patch to stabilize the product, and users willing to tolerate the less than friendly user interface, the actual game is good enough to be considered worthy by those who may not want brutal hardcore sim, and would just rather experience the thrill of F1 racing with some assists from the computer. And of course, it would be great if Geoff Crammond and Co. could finally write a new, more believable physics engine. So in the end we get a few new features, such as the longer replays, some nice instructional videos and a bit of a graphics facelift. If you don't own any of the Grand Prix series and EA's title is too daunting for you, you might check out Grand Prix 4. If you like EA's title or want a lot more to say about what your car does, Grand Prix 4 won't win you over.

Chase lacks ingenuity, vive, and excitement. There are no tense moments, no times where you will throw down your controller over the difficulty of a situation, and no real reason to play it all the way through. It lacks passion. I can't say I had fun playing the game, but for some reason I kept playing. Maybe it was just to see if it would get better. Probably because it wasn't a terrrible game and it was hard to believe how lifeless it felt. Chase might be a rental, but certainly isn't worth the price of admission. With so many games coming this Holiday, save your $50 for a more worthy offering.

I wouldn't call myself a dedicated fan to the sport, but I do appreciate good simulations and arcadey takes on racing. From Gran Turismo to Burnout, I often find I can't pull myself away from the TV. Even as a kid, I remember I fell in love with a game called Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road, which I'm reminded of when playing 4x4 Evo 2. It used to have a similar setup where you earn all this cash to buy yourself better parts for your big, bad 4x4. So, naturally, I was pretty excited by the sheer volume of cars and parts you could buy in 4x4 Evo 2. Setting up my vehicle was pretty entertaining, but as soon as I began racing in my career I just found the races to be generally boring. The only reason I wanted to press on was to earn more cash to upgrade my vehicle. Since the core of the game is racing, after all, and not purchasing cars and parts, I can't say I recommend investing in 4x4 Evo 2. Only the most mouth-frothingly fantatical 4x4 devotee would be rewarded by what it has to offer.

The results are not mixed. It's pretty much all bad. To put it quite succinctly -- the game bites. It's not a horrible game. In fact, it's pretty average. The fighting convention hurts a lot, because it's a bit too weak to pull off the desired innovation. And then the rest of the game feels pretty much like your typical action stuff with nothing standing out beyond the frustration of the controls. A valiant effort, but one that falls far short of excellence or even solid success. It's probably not a bad choice for a rental, but definitely not one to buy without trying out first.

The Thing takes some time to get into, and it may be a little frustrating for some gamers. But I'm quite sure that once its given a chance, The Thing won't disappoint. The deeper you play, the more satisfying and challenging it becomes, and the more it draws you in. The Thing is well-paced, designed with an excellent variety of levels, and it pulls off one the most innovative and best squad-based play on a console to date. I can't wait to see what they do with the sequel (just a guess, of course...). And, The Thing is not designed for an innocent little kid. It's an M-rated game and to prove it, it's filled with grotesque scenes of violence, exploding bodies, and gallons of blood. Also, there's foul language, too, something that's more common these days in videogames. All of things are consistent with the movie, the theme of which has been handled with exquisite care and thought. With the exception of the blood test goofs and the rather thin storyline, The Thing warrants your time and money. It's a good action-adventure game, and yes, it's even a very good survival-horror game, something we'll all in need of.

Mafia is a great game with some minor problems that are easily forgotten once you get into the meat of the game. While I still wish that I could skip through some of the driving, it isn't anywhere near a big enough failing for me not to heartily recommend this game to anyone that likes action and especially those that love the depression gangster era. Mafia is dripping with style and class and has certainly shoved itself into the ranks of the best games of this year, which as you know has already had some incredible titles.

The most satisfying arcade sports title to come out of the Midway offices as of yet, MLB SlugFest 20-03 does few things incorrectly. Brilliantly illustrated and animated, flawlessly announced, and a synch to get into, there is little holding the baseballer back.

If you love the extreme sports genre, this game is an absolute must. It's a ton of fun and will suck away so many hours all your friends will think you've died. Unless you don't have friends and then no one will notice except your dog who really needs to go walkies. Though the gameplay in is a little bit better than Hawk the little things AI is missing keep it from getting a higher mark. There's no skate shop to buy better skates, no way to customize the characters at all and not create-a-skater. And, even though the levels are quite large, it would have been nice for their to be more than seven levels available in career mode. Still, this game will require a hefty chunk of double-digit hours to dominate. I've logged in over twenty so far and have no desire to stop playing. Stop wasting time and order now.
