Fighting fans (and Capcom nuts) should check Plasma Sword out for at least a few sessions. With a decent amount of characters and some hearty specialty moves, it'll at least grab your attention for a weekend. But if its depth and replayability you're looking for, Capcom has done a lot better than this. Wait for the American release of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 or Street Fighter Alpha 3 for a taste of what the company can do best.

I had high hopes for Roadsters. A casual fan of Speed Devils and other classic arcade wheelers like Hard Drivin', I wanted it to be something special but this isn't it. Easter eggs and secrets aside, there's not much to hold your interest after the first few races. Plus, it's graphically horrendous and ergonomically frustrating. It's time to start praying that Bizarre Creations' upcoming Metropolis and Midways 4-Wheel follow-up to Hydro Thunder don't suffer the same fate. Do yourself a favor, and race somewhere else.

Disney's Aladdin could have been that game that showed skeptics that the Game Boy Color hardware has a lot of 2D capabilities -- I'm sure the game could have been done a lot cleaner and smoother with added resources and tighter programming. But instead, an amazing-looking Genesis game gets reduced down to a mediocre looking and above-average playing portable title on the GBC -- granted, the Genesis is a 16-bit system and the GBC an updated NES, but I've seen better, smoother, and faster on the hardware. It plays well enough, but the flicker and slowdown is a distraction.

I'm totally addicted and thrilled with Pok¿mon Puzzle League. To be fair we have to deduct points for some of the technical shortcomings, but I feel it's my mission to let you know how great this game is. Obviously if you don't like Tetris you're certainly not going to like this, but if you like Tetris or were fortunate enough to have played Tetris Attack you'll love this new take on the series. It's got a smooth interface, intuitive controls, and there's plenty of tutorial modes to keep you training for a long time. I highly recommend this game to any child, teenager, or adult who likes the puzzle genre. The Pok¿mon theme is really just Nintendo's surefire way of selling software. If you're not a fan of those cutesy critters, just overlook them. This mind-bender is terribly addictive when you get into it. In a perfect world, yes, this new offering would feature a Matrix-style soundtrack, moody graphics, and a four-player mode, but we're forced to forget about that dream for now. The principle remains the same, whether you're playing checkers with cookies or actual checker pieces it's still the same game. Consider that, and then promptly buy Pok¿mon Puzzle League if it suits you.

I never thought that I'd see competition for Shadow Man this soon. After all, Shadow Man had every thing I was looking for: action, suspense, cool graphics, and an awesome soundtrack. And then Soul Reaver came along. While Shadow Man has terrifically-disturbing images and stories worthy of awards and accolades, Legacy of Kain takes everything that makes the horror genre compelling and improves on it in nearly every way. Ending aside (what's wrong with a cliff-hanger now and then?), Kain is easily my favorite Dreamcast game so far, and is a great choice for your growing collection.
