While Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS was below the standards of its original in our view (and scored as such), the same can't be said of Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World. It takes fantastic original material and carefully adapts it for the portable, with extras compensating for one lost feature. In the process it becomes an elite 3DS 2D platformer, joining its Wii U predecessor in that company.

Riassumendo, Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World è una conversione davvero ben fatta con molte simpatiche aggiunte rispetto all'originale e, anche se manca il multiplayer locale e la campagna principale è la stessa della versione Wii U, si va prepotentemente a prendere il posto tra i migliori platform di sempre su Nintendo 3DS. La sfida per completare il gioco in modalità classica con tutti i segreti è tutt'altro che banale e vi terrà incollati per molte ore al piccolo schermo, ma anche completare tutti gli obiettivi del mini gioco di Poochy richiederà più di una prova. In definitiva, ci sentiamo di consigliarlo e di confermare che è assolutamente la conversione che ogni possessore di Nintendo 3DS aspettava.

Poochy and Yoshi's Woolly World is a nice port of the Wii U version, though anyone with the Wii U version might not find enough to warrant picking up this one. The difficulty is easy for veteran gamers but could be challenging for younger players. That doesn't, however, stop it from being a fun and casual game that will remind you of Yoshi's more classic outings.

Yoshi è sempre una garanzia. Anche su Nintendo 3DS riesce a essere testimonial di un gioco di piattaforme ben pensato ed eseguito, che riesce a dare qualcosa sia agli appassionati che ai neofiti. I primi, però, troveranno pochi slanci creativi davvero degni di nota e i limiti tecnici della console portatile Nintendo vanno a ridurre in maniera significativa l’impatto dell’ottima direzione artistica originale.

Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World è indubbiamente meno grazioso del titolo originale, “costretto” a vivere su un hardware (e su uno schermo) che non rendono giustizia all'incredibile direzione artistica che ci aveva colpito su Wii U. Considerando che i livelli aggiuntivi, le funzionalità amiibo e la possibilità di creare il proprio Yoshi sono evidentemente marginali, bisogna ammettere che complessivamente questa riedizione perde qualcosa. Il gioco resta comunque piacevole, divertente e ricchissimo di contenuti: capace ricordaci -ad oltre venti anni di distanza dall'uscita di Super Mario World 2- cosa abbia reso grande Yoshi's Island. Forse con un ritmo un po' più acceso il titolo avrebbe potuto aspirare a vette che allo stato attuale dei fatti riesce a lambire soltanto negli stage più ispirati. E tuttavia non ci dispiace l'idea di un gioco che possa rappresentare un'alternativa solida e concreta alla scuola del platform moderno: un gioco più rilassato, concentrato sull'esplorazione, da giocare con calma; senza l'ossessione di consumarne rapidamente i contenuti. Considerando che il nuovo livello di difficoltà lo rende perfetto anche per i più piccoli, non fatichiamo a giudicare anche questa riedizione come un bel centro da parte di Nintendo.

Yoshi’s Woolly World was one of the best looking games on the Wii U and that has translated quite well to the Nintendo 3DS with Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World. The titular Poochy is mostly an ancillary piece of the game through a series of mini-games and shorts, but they pair well enough with the other new additions to make one think about double dipping with Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World.

Wer hätte das für möglich gehalten? Entwickler Good-Feel hat es tatsächlich geschafft, Nintendos Dino-Maskottchen noch knuffiger zu gestalten und das Ergebnis sauber auf den 3DS zu portieren. Jeder noch so unwichtige Gegner wackelt derart liebenswert durch die Levels, dass ich ständig den Drang verspürte, ihn zu knuddeln. Auch das Spieldesign profitiert von Tricks wie dem Aufribbeln, Plattquetschen oder Einspinnen von Gegnern. Vor allem das Erforschen versteckter Ecken gestaltet sich dank gelungener Garn-Rätsel erfreulich abwechslungsreich. Zwischendurch wird es aber auch mal fade – z.B. in den einfach gestrickten Minispielen. Oder wenn ich abseits des Weges zu viel Krempel anhäufen musste, weil mir der normale Weg als geübter Spieler zu wenig Herausforderung bot. So kinderleicht wie Kirbys Garnausflug ist Yoshi’s Woolly World aber zum Glück nicht – es sei denn, man aktiviert die optionale Hilfe der kleinen „Schnuffelchen“-Welpen. Schade auch, dass es keinen lokalen Koop mehr gibt. Auf Wii U gestaltete der sich lustig, aber nicht zu chaotisch. Wer Lust auf einen klassischen Plattformer mit neuen Tricks hat, wird trotzdem gut bedient – inklusive dem wahrscheinlich putzigsten Design aller Zeiten und einer plastischen Wollkulisse, die stark vom 3D-Effekt profitiert.

Estos títulos son los que hacen que Nintendo siga resultando de confianza y una seña de calidad. Poochy and Yoshi's Woolly World "escapa" de Wii U y ofrece una experiencia completa, desafiante (o relajada, lo que queramos), y mantiene un nivel visual suficientemente fiel al original como para hablar de uno de los grandes en la portátil de dos pantallas de Nintendo. Totalmente recomendable, pese a que resulta tan similar al original que muchos echarán de menos aún más mejoras, cambios y/o añadidos.

However, the same problems are prevalent in this port, and while it’s a great experience, does lose some of its luster next to its console counterpart.

Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World fait le travail en proposant un portage de qualité, digne de la version Wii U, avec quelques ajouts qui ne manquent pas d’intérêt. Les niveaux de type runner où l’on contrôle Poochy permettent une variation dans le gameplay et le mode relax est encore plus accessible qu’auparavant, notamment pour les plus jeunes. En fait, on aurait dit le jeu taillé pour la 3DS ! Bref, mieux que l’original, que demander de plus pour un portage ?

Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World remains one of the cutest games around. Even though most of the tactile charm of the Wii U original has been lost to the 3DS’s technical limitations, there’s still plenty of fun to be uncovered in this colourful and often inventive platformer. Incidentally, it also brings some of the happiest, catchiest music ever to the 3DS. Yoshi’s faithful Poochy is loveable new addition, but he feels underused; he appears only in a handful of animated shorts, a sparse challenge mode, and as little more than a series of assists in the super-easy ‘Mellow’ mode. He definitely makes tracking down all of the numerous collectibles more enjoyable, but it’s a shame this instantly likeable character doesn’t have more to do that’s unique to his skills.
