With other toys-to-life franchises seemingly folding by the day, it’s amazing that Skylanders has managed to stay not only wildly successful, but also so fresh and entertaining year after year. Last year’s iteration attempted to change the genre of the series, but Imaginators grounds it in platforming again, this time simply crafting the best gameplay experience possible. Considering how often character creation is simply an afterthought in games, it seems hard to believe that it’s such an appealing and masterful feature here, but it truly makes Skylanders the game it always had the potential to be. Being able to sit back and create strange creature after stranger creature and then having the option to play as it, send it to your phone, trap it in a crystal or turn it into a physical collectible is unique and unparalleled experience in gaming that will surely not only become a mainstay in the Skylanders franchise, but also cribbed by countless other games in the years to come. All the more reason to hop into Imaginators and live the future today.

Quando pensavamo di aver già visto tutto ci siamo ricreduti. I ragazzi di Toys for Bob hanno fatto centro anche questa volta, dando quel tocco in più che mancava alla serie introducendo la personalizzazione del proprio Skylander. Anche se probabilmente la personalizzazione potrebbe non interessare a tutti, questo aspetto rende molto più intrigante il gioco. Parliamoci francamente: quante volte in vita vostra avreste voluto indossare i panni di un personaggio nato dalla vostra fantasia e muoverlo in un videogioco? Skylanders Imaginators ci è piaciuto davvero tanto, ci ha divertito, e se giocato in compagnia di amici, parenti o genitori, è in grado di offrire un divertimento smisurato. Tanti mini-giochi, una nuova storia, un doppiaggio di buon livello e soprattutto tante nuove e belle statuine Sensei da collezionare. La piena compatibilità con i vecchi giocattoli rende l’esperienza ancora più completa, con una longevità molto alta. Se proprio vogliamo trovare un difetto, forse un ritmo di gioco più veloce e la possibilità di salvare più di una skin del proprio personaggio nel cristallo sarebbero stati ben accetti. Chi volesse collezionare tutte le Action Figure, e non sarà facile resistere, dovrà fare i conti con il proprio portafogli. Quello che conta davvero è che Il titolo fa tutto quello che deve fare e continuerà, ne siamo certi, ad imporsi nel mercato dei toys-to-life. Ma quello che ci domandiamo a questo punto è: cosa “immagineranno” il prossimo anno per sorprenderci ancora?

Skylanders Imaginators es uno de los mejores juegos de la franquicia. Crear nuestros propios Skylanders es una delicia y los Sensei son una gran incorporación a la saga. Un fantástico diseño de niveles y decenas de horas de diversión, acción y humor ponen la guinda a una gran aventura que no es perfecta, pero que cumple con creces.

Spostando l'accento sulla creazione dei personaggi "nel gioco", Skylanders tradisce un po' il suo passato e il fascino che hanno portato il primissimo prodotto Toys to Life a imporsi tra i giovanissimi a cui è evidentemente dedicato. Il gioco continua a funzionare e la formula, seppur cominci a mostrare qualche segno di stanchezza, è sempre quella, accessibile e divertente. Ma non avere i personaggi in mano, perdere la sensazione di essere al 100% protagonisti, e l'impressione di un collegamento tra il mondo reale e quello del gioco rappresenta un po' un peccato. Quest'anno, poi, Skylanders si mostra in modo tecnicamente meno appagante: saranno le scelte dei livelli, sarà una realizzazione grafica meno convincente, o forse l'aver fatto un po' l'abitudine al gioco... sta di fatto che di genuini momenti "wow", che nei titoli passati non mancavano mai, non ne ho sperimentati. Buona la variante corsaiola, che consente di continuare a usare - anche se in realtà è un po' un'illusione anche questa - i mezzi già comprati lo scorso anno. Ma a questo punto, pur restando un buon prodotto, credo che sia giunto il momento per Skylanders di fare una profonda riflessione sul futuro...

Skylanders has now been around for six consecutive years and it doesn’t seem to show any signs of slowing down with Skylanders Imaginators. The core gameplay is still a lot of fun and the level of customization with the new Imaginators is quite impressive, but a few bonehead decisions like the locked battle classes on Creation Crystals and a lack of any major gameplay changes surrounding the actual Imaginators prevent Skylanders Imaginators from taking the series to the next level.

Skylanders Imaginators apuesta por una entrega que no arriesga demasiado, teniendo en cuenta que Superchargers fue una de las más revolucionarias. En ese sentido, se podría considerar un retroceso en lo referente a las mecánicas del juego, por mucho que se mantengan las carreras como un modo aparte. La gran novedad de los Imaginators es un paso adelante para no solamente modificar a los Skylanders como hacíamos hasta ahora con algunos objetos estéticos, sino tener el control total de la personalización de tu propia creación, algo que deja volar la imaginación de los críos y ya aporta más al desarrollo cognitivo infantil de los más pequeños de la casa. El hecho de que se mantenga una compatibilidad casi total con los juguetes lanzados hasta la fecha hará que tu colección cobre más valor.

While I enjoy creating my own characters, the requirement to purchase special crystals to do so feels like I am just being forced to buy save slots.

Skylanders Imaginators non è certamente il titolo più ambizioso o coraggioso della serie, e la scelta di mantenere praticamente invariate le rodate ma forse troppo familiari meccaniche base del gameplay riduce per certi versi la forza della spinta creativa che gli ultimi capitoli avevano garantito. L'introduzione dell'editor, dei bottini e degli elementi RPG offre però un maggiore spessore all'esperienza, che comunque si mantiene in senso assoluto su livelli molto elevati soprattutto considerando il target giovanile a cui si rivolge. A patto di non essere quindi stanchi della formula offerta da Skylanders, Imaginators è episodio equilibrato, ben rifinito, divertente e inevitabilmente costoso come sempre. Ma per l'anno prossimo, servirà qualcosa in più.

Fazit Die durch das Selbstmach-Konzept nötigen Realgeld-Anschaffungen beiseite (die ohnehin in jedem Skylanders zu einem allgegenwärtigen Begleiter wurden), ist dies das bislang reifste Abenteuer in den Himmelslanden. Zwar immer noch mit Ausnahme des einen oder anderen Bosses viel zu leicht, werden die gleichermaßen bewährten wie bekannten Elemente Hüpfen, Kämpfen und Umgebungsrätsel durch das massiv erweiterte Beute-System so aufgewertet, dass beinahe Diablo-Verhältnisse erreicht werden. Auch die rudimentäre Verbindung von Senseis und den Eigenkreationen mit ihren unzähligen Möglichkeiten ist gelungen, während die inhaltlichen Bezahlschranken zwar spürbar sind, sich aber hinsichtlich Umfang und Spielfortschritt vornehm zurückhalten und mit Ausnahme der Sensei-Areale nur für Einsteiger in die Sammelwelt der Skylanders große Auswirkungen zeigen. Visuell auf PS4 und One der bislang ausgefeilteste Ableger, überzeugt Imaginators mit stimmungsvollem Cartoon-Design, schicken Animationen und aufwändigen Effekten, bietet aber immer noch keine frei positionierbare Kamera. Auch da mit Disney Infinity ein wichtiger Konkurrent den Kampf aufgebeben hat, ist es schön zu sehen, dass man Jahr um Jahr versucht, die Skylanders mit neuen Konzepten zu erweitern. Und umso schöner, wenn es so gut und motivierend funktioniert wie mit Imaginators.

S’il est sain de pester contre la multiplication des figurines/objets payants nécessaires pour espérer terminer intégralement Skylanders Imaginators, en revanche il faut reconnaître le savoir-faire du studio Toys For Bob. Car, à travers ce nouvel épisode, les développeurs offrent enfin aux enfants des outils simples et très accessibles pour laisser libre cours à leur imagination et créer des personnages de toutes pièces. De plus, suite à la disparition de Disney Infinity, les occasions de divertissement vidéoludique en famille sont trop peu nombreuses pour ne pas en profiter. D’autant que les challenges et épreuves, en multi coopératif ou compétitif, sont ici nombreux et que la difficulté générale parfaitement équilibrée autorise une progression rapide. Bref, pour les enfants, un des incontournables de Noël !

Compte tenu de la stagnation de la série, Skylanders Imaginators est une bonne surprise. Activision justifie plutôt bien cet épisode : très beau sur PS4, Imaginators vous laisse surtout libre de créer votre avatar. Seul bémol relativement gênant : la nécessité, encore et toujours, de devoir acheter des figurines spécifiques pour pouvoir jouer à certains niveaux. Après avoir enfin réglé l'un des plus gros soucis de sa licence (le rythme de l'aventure), il serait peut-être temps de donner à Skylanders un côté moins mercantile, même si l'aventure a déjà le mérite d'être longue. En attendant, ce sont les enfants qui sont contents. À l'approche de Noël, c'est déjà bien.

On the whole, Skylanders Imaginators is one of the weaker games in the series. It does have a creative element that delighted my inner child with the ability to build and carry around my own crazy character going for it, and the world looks and sounds great. But I was let down by the level design and plot, and soured by the aggressive microtransaction prompts.

Globalement, Skylanders Imaginators est l'un des opus les plus faibles de la saga. Celui-ci dispose certes de nombreux éléments innovants qui ont su enchanter l'enfant en moi (grâce notamment à la possibilité de créer et emporter son propre personnage partout avec soi) et nous offre aussi un univers visuel et sonore magnifique, mais son intrigue fade, son level-design basique et sa politique envahissante en matière de micro-transactions ont finalement eu raison de mon enthousiasme.

Skylanders Imaginators tente d’apporter un vent de fraîcheur à la licence avec ces aspects création et personnalisation fort sympathiques. S’il est indéniablement le cadeau idéal à offrir, il peut vite devenir un cadeau onéreux au vu de la multiplication des figurines et des éléments nécessaires pour avancer. Le système de micro-paiements ne facilite pas la tâche puisque nous sommes toujours sans cesse embêtés, comme si les développeurs nous poussaient à sortir notre carte bleue. Les énigmes sont vite redondantes et le manque de profondeur à l’aventure pourra ennuyer certains, surtout avec la lourdeur des déplacements de nos héros. Malgré tout, une fois la pilule passée, il est clair que Skylanders Imaginators vous fera passer un bon moment de détente et d’amusement, aidé par un level-design intéressant et des environnements aussi beaux que merveilleux. La personnalisation est fort bienvenue et les différentes classes veulent vraiment se faire adopter. On a envie d’y jouer. De tout essayer. Et on a envie de recommencer, encore et encore, le tout au détriment de notre portefeuille.
