Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is the definitive Danganronpa experience. Though players absolutely have to play its predecessor to fully grasp the overall narrative, it is everything one would hope a sequel should be. This is a title that takes a proven formula and improves upon it in numerous ways, from the gameplay to the vastly superior narrative. You’ll constantly scratch your head, drop your jaw, laugh out loud, and feel noticeably sad. You’ll connect with each character in a notable way, allowing each death to have far more weight than those in Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc. It instantly catapults itself into the Vita’s elite, as its narrative is simply that great. If you’re a fan of heavily story-driven titles, you’d be doing yourself a grave injustice not giving this one a shot.

Danganronpa 2 è, insieme al suo illustre predecessore, una delle cose migliori capitate alla PS Vita quest’anno. Un titolo fuori dagli schemi, che per questo potrebbe andare indigesto a molti: se siete quel tipo di giocatore che deve per forza premere un grilletto (e non c’è niente di male, sia chiaro), questo non è il gioco che fa per voi. I dialoghi sono lunghi, a volte lunghissimi, il ritmo è molto lento. La prima mezz’ora sembra durare sei ore, perché non succede assolutamente nulla. Ma abbiate un minimo di pazienza e verrete investiti da una storia assurda, affascinante, malata che vi coinvolgerà e stupirà: la parte propriamente ludica non è certamente delle migliori, ma non ha importanza. La forza di Danganronpa 2 è tutta nella trama e nei suoi intricati intrecci, nei suoi personaggi banali ma imprevedibili, nei suoi risvolti illogici e tremendamente reali. È un gioco lineare, le sezioni investigative sono fin troppo facili, i mini-giochi tendono a diventare ripetitivi dopo un po’. Eppure, lo ripetiamo, questo è uno dei migliori titoli arrivati su PS Vita quest’anno. Un ultimo appunto: il gioco è completamente in inglese, senza possibilità di impostare la lingua italiana. Visto il ruolo preponderante di trama e dialoghi, se non sapete questa lingua vi sconsigliamo l’acquisto. Oppure acquistatelo e sfruttate l’occasione per imparare l’idioma della Regina, ma senza farvi vedere dai vostri compagni di classe. Potrebbero farsi strane idee su di voi.

Dass in Japan beide DanganRonpa-Remakes im günstigen Doppelpack erschienen sind, während man in westlichen Gefilden zwei Vollpreistitel daraus gemacht, hinterlässt natürlich einen bitteren Beigeschmack. Fans bizarrer Mystery-Thriller können dennoch froh sein, endlich in den Genuss der zweiten Episode des mörderischen Highschool-Experiments zu kommen. Das findet dieses Mal nicht hinter dicken Schulmauern, sondern vor tropischer Traumkulisse statt. Doch auch die wird bald zum Alptraum für ihre Besucher, wenn das mörderische Treiben um die einzige Rückfahrgelegenheit nach Hause von Neuem beginnt. Manch übertrieben voyeuristische Darstellung hätte man sich allerdings sparen und stattdessen lieber in zusätzliche Sprachaufnahmen oder eine deutsche Lokalisierung investieren sollen. Die meisten spielerischen Abläufe kennt man bereits aus dem Vorgänger, wodurch die Faszination trotz gleicher Qualität nicht mehr ganz so groß ist. Dennoch gibt es auch die ein oder andere Überraschung beim insularen Erkunden, Recherchieren und Prozessieren, so dass das mörderische Ränkespiel erneut sehr gut zu unterhalten weiß.

Goodbye Despair sa di dover fare i conti con la pesante eredità del primo episodio, da cui recupera le premesse narrative, la direzione artistica, l’ambientazione e le principali dinamiche ludiche ma, procedendo nella vicenda, la qualità dei misteri proposti e la mole crescente di colpi di scena riescono a fare di questo seguito un degno successore dell’avventura conclusasi lo scorso febbraio, aprendo le porte a nuovi scenari che Spike Chunsoft si appresta ad esplorare nel futuro Danganronpa Another Episode.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair est un peu la suite parfaite restant sur les bases acquises et offrant des nouveautés de gameplay vraiment novatrices et sympathiques. On ajoute à cela le casting de personnages qualitatif et une histoire qui parvient à trancher avec l’ancienne tout en conservant le fameux aspect de s’entre-tuer entre élèves. Bref, ce nouveau lieu livrant les étudiants de la Hope’s Peak Academy apporte vraiment un aspect coloré et crée le paradoxe parfait entre rêve et horreur. Comme d’habitude, pas de français à l’horizon ce qui est fort regrettable tant le soft a gagné en complexité grâce aux nombreux ajouts et au fait que les procès soient devenus de plus en plus complexes et tordus. En tout cas, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair est doté d’une histoire passionnante avec un Monokuma psychopathe toujours aussi agréable d’autant plus qu’il peut élever son niveau de sadisme à son summum grâce à la pauvre Monomi. A cela, on ajoute d’excellentes musiques, des exécutions toujours aussi émouvantes et des art works de toute beauté qui jouent cette fois-ci, un peu plus la carte du fan service. Ainsi, on a un équilibre encore plus parfait entre espoir, désespoir, perversité et humour.

Mission accomplie pour la suite de l'une des meilleures surprises de la Vita puisque, même s'il ne s'éloigne que très peu de son prédécesseur, Danganronpa 2 réussit à nous scotcher de bout en bout. La frénésie des procès compense la relative lourdeur des phases d'aventure, et le scénario va bien au-delà de la simple formule d'un Battle Royale. Un titre à découvrir d'urgence donc !

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair è un titolo più completo rispetto al predecessore, ma resta comunque una visual novel e come tale sarà apprezzata solo dai fan del genere e, specialmente, da chi comprende bene l'inglese. Questi due fattori rendono il titolo Spike Chunsoft incredibilmente di nicchia, e la trama angosciante di certo non aiuta a dipingere il ritratto di un "gioco per tutti". Se vi piace il genere, insomma, è un acquisto imprescindibile, anche e soprattutto se avete già giocato il prequel. Se invece non avete mai provato una visual novel, potreste essere il momento di farlo grazie a questa ottima serie, ma assicuratevi prima di avere un buon rapporto con la lingua di Albione.
