Titan Souls est un excellent die and retry. Les fans du genre seront plus que conquit par son concept, son gameplay, son univers, sa musique et surtout par le challenge qu'il propose. Ce jeu est tout simplement un must-have tant il regorge de qualité. Il prouve que la scène indépendante est encore pleine de ressources et qu'elle peut faire vibrer les joueurs avec un concept simple et bien exploité.

Titan Souls offre un livello di sfida insolito oggigiorno, ritrovabile non a caso nella serie Souls a cui questo gioco dedica il proprio nome. Ai ragazzi di Acid Nerve va dato il merito di avere creato un'avventura impegnativa, in certi casi oltremodo frustrante, ma con una verve positiva che come già detto spinge ad arrivare fino in fondo piuttosto che a rinunciare. Se morire un numero spropositato di volte non vi spaventa, così come non lo fanno le pesanti meccaniche "trial and error" di Titan Souls, avete davanti un vero e proprio gioiellino con cui intrattenervi. Se invece temete il peggio, potete sempre provare la demo prima di dare giudizi finali.

Una vez más, y ya van unas cuantas, Devolver Digital entrega un juego que se colará en las listas de los mejores independientes del año. Titan Souls no inventa nada pero mete en la coctelera el concepto de Shadow of the Colossus junto a sus propias, y particulares, mecánicas, para ofrecer una experiencia dura y tortuosa pero que sabe recompensar al jugador a medida que perfecciona su técnica y derrota, uno a uno, a los titanes.

Titan Souls is a pretty solid game, but I can see where it may not gel with some players. There is quite a bit of difficulty to it as you have to learn each titan’s patterns and figure out how to expose and attack their weak points, and others may just see this as a rip-off of Shadow of the Colossus. If you can get past that, Titan Souls provides quite a bit of challenge, but admittedly could have gone on a bit longer for a $15 price point.

Una autentica sorpresa diventata realtà, Titan Souls è la sintesi perfetta di tutto quello che oggigiorno il settore indie riesce a creare: divertimento, idee di gioco valide e non banali, cura e dedizione per quel che concerne il lato audio e artistico. Il lavoro di Acid Nerve è quindi degno di encomio, perché quando è la semplicità ad aprire le porte a lampi di genio e originalità, difficilmente si concede troppo tempo agli eventuali difetti. Che ci sono, come una longevità non esaltante o una difficoltà a tratti snervante se deciderete di giocarlo tramite tastiera, ma a fronte di una esperienza di gioco ricca di pathos e coinvolgente passano velocemente in secondo piano.

Titan Souls è un gioco intelligente, originale, basato su un'idea forte sviluppata molto bene, con grande cura e attenzione ai dettagli. Dura forse leggermente meno di quanto avrei voluto, ma lo fa senza arrivare mai a ripetersi o allungare in maniera forzata. È anche un gioco che, per la sua natura particolare, può lasciare molto perplessi. Il consiglio è di dare una chance alla demo (che non è il prototipo originale). Se risulta nelle vostre corde, lanciatevi senza remore su Titan Souls, perché è un'esperienza unica, coinvolgente e impegnativa. Potreste trovarlo un po' breve, ma rimane comunque nella media per questo genere di produzioni indie. Se la demo non vi convince, prendete la cosa come un campanello d'allarme.

Desafiante como pocos, Titan Souls es una gran aventura de acción que saca oro de la aparente simpleza de su jugabilidad. Es un videojuego épico que sorprende en todos y cada uno de los enfrentamientos en los que nos sumerge, y que además te reta a intentarlo una y otra vez por difícil que parezca. Los momentos de exploración también son de lo más agradecidos, aunque nos habría encantado que se ahondará más en esta faceta de juego y en la presencia de más puzles. Sin ellos, el paso intermedio entre un jefazo y otro se siente simple en demasía, y le resta cierto encanto al conjunto final.

In tempi dove il termine “sfida” pare ormai giacere spoglio del proprio significato, Titan Souls ha l’audacia di proporsi al pubblico sotto forma di action-adventure di foggia antica, mosca bianca nel mercato contemporaneo che riesce ad ammaliare e, pad alla mano, divertire proprio grazie al suo singolare concept. Saldando sapientemente frammenti di già visto, Acid Nerve ha saputo modellare una formula ludica tanto immediata e concettualmente semplice quanto stimolante, in cui il confronto diretto con il software prende le sembianze di una vera e propria competizione con se stessi, scontro dopo scontro, run dopo run. Se lo sfruttamento del setting principale risulta un po’ troppo pigro, svilendo inevitabilmente la metà “adventure” che il genere d’appartenenza in qualche modo reclama, ben diverso è lo stato in cui versa il cuore della produzione. Difatti, le boss fight che lo rendono pulsante sono tutte impegnative ma estremamente gratificanti, diverse l’una dall’altra e al tempo stesso accomunate dalla medesima capacità di premiare quei giocatori che sapranno ben coniugare intuito, abilità e tenacia. E se gli utenti Valve e Sony più temerari non si faranno di sicuro intimidire da una morte inevitabilmente reiterante, anche chi d’animo meno hardcore, aiutato dal meccanismo “esperienziale” alla base del titolo, non dovrebbe sottovalutare un’occasione così ghiotta per mettersi alla prova. Perché in fin dei conti, volente o nolente, qualunque videogiocatore che si rispetti ha in sé una fiamma che arde, piccola o grande che sia; Titan Souls sa come alimentarla, genuinamente.

Titan Souls is a quietly beautiful little epic. The contrast of the boss fights with the peaceful exploration works to create a world of contrasts, broken but not dead. Or at least not dead until you come calling with a bow and magic arrow. Just be aware going in that the challenge can be as unforgiving as the ruins are serene, and every ounce of skill may still not be quite enough.

Titan Souls’ sparse world and lore is merely the delivery device for its creative fights that hinge on your perception and skillful mastery of its simple, yet fluid and responsive controls. Though the experience is short, it’s potent, as weathering every titan’s impossibly lethal storm and finding that one true strike is an excellent and intoxicating retelling of David versus Goliath each time. And should you survive the punishing menagerie of monsters, having mastered each bout, Titan Souls raises the stakes and the difficulty, daring you to shoot to kill and do it better.

Was hatte ich denn erwartet? Die stimmungsvolle Reise durch eine exotische Welt, fordernde Kämpfe gegen fantasievolle Titanen – und genau das ist Titan Souls. Die einfachen Pixelstriche stoßen meine Fantasie an, von sanfter Musik wird sie durch ein verwunschenes Reich getragen. Bis der Kampf mit einem Titanen das Tempo erhöht: Dann schlägt der Puls schneller, weil jeder Fehltritt den Tod bedeuten kann und der entscheidende Schuss in einem winzigen Zeitfenster sitzen muss. Die Formel „Ein Pfeil, ein Lebenspunkt“ sorgt für spannende Momente! Leider nutzt sich das Prinzip aber schnell ab. Variationen finden nur oberflächlich statt und dem stimmungsvollen Schauplatz fehlen Hinweise auf seine Geschichte sowie die des Helden. Das erhoffte Kleinod ist Titan Souls deshalb nicht. Ein spannendes Abenteuer für zwischendurch aber allemal.

Auréolé d'un semblant de narration et doté de davantage de mystères à percer, Titan Souls aurait certainement pu s'avérer mémorable. Il n'en constitue pas moins un très bon « die & retry » qui brille par l'efficacité de son gameplay et par la grande diversité des combats de boss proposés. Ajoutez-y une ambiance très influencée par celle de Shadow of the Colossus et vous obtenez un titre aussi envoûtant qu'exigeant.

Titan Souls strips out all of the bloat of contemporary action games, and boils things down to what should be the best bits. Though it might be a little too condensed for its own good. There’s very little sense of satisfaction and reward for completing what can be tedious trial and error boss encounters. You never quite feel like you are building towards anything meaningful in either story or character progression.

Pour être apprécié, Titan Souls demande au joueur d’avoir des nerfs très solides et énormément de foi. La gestion par Acid Nerve de la frustration a le mérite d'être très intéressante et de prendre un réel parti pris. Toutefois, vous ne l’achèterez jamais au prix fort et vous aurez raison. Le contenu est vraiment trop chiche pour réellement justifier son plein tarif. Et c’est bien là le paradoxe, car le jeu offrirait une belle durée de vie à celui qui se ferait malmener par la myriade de boss présents dans cette épreuve. Cependant, ce joueur-là, risque bien de ne pas persévérer dans ce jeu qui s’adresse avant tout à ceux qui savent rester zen.

As admirable as the single-minded design is it feels a lot more interesting in theory than it does in the endless repetition of actually playing it.
