Assassin’s Creed Mirage ne nous a pas menti. Le nouvel opus nous propose un retour aux sources en bonne et due forme, avec un credo à l’ancienne et des mécaniques modernes à la Unity. Véritable melting pot - aussi bien au niveau des approches, des PNJ que des mécaniques tirées des précédents AC -, Mirage est un appel à la liberté presque sans limite. En revanche, son gameplay à l’ancienne, ses petites lacunes techniques et son côté très classique risquent d’en laisser certains sur le carreau. Mais les fans de la licence tiennent avec Mirage un récit prenant, une bouffée agréable de nostalgie et une nouvelle plongée grandiose dans la grande Histoire. Oui, l'aventure de Basim ne réinvente pas la roue, mais elle constitue un excellent moyen de patienter en attendant le prochain gros jeu de la licence, Assassin’s Creed Codename Red.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage è uno dei migliori Assassin’s Creed degli ultimi anni! La premessa necessaria è che possiate per un momento accantonare l’idea degli open-world e degli RPG mastodontici e interminabili, perché con questa operazione Ubisoft ha voluto rendere omaggio alle origini della serie. La trama principale è snella, chiara, diretta, i personaggi pochi e ben caratterizzati, perfettamente riconoscibili. Basim è il giusto alter ego di Altair, le meccaniche quelle dello storico, primo capitolo, con i giusti aggiornamenti; le atmosfere non inedite, ma una piacevole riscoperta dei tempi andati. Mirage ci riporta dove tutto quanto è cominciato, ma ci ricorda – al tempo stesso – che sono passati quindici anni dalla prima avventura. Ci racconta una storia di formazione e scoperta, necessaria per la comprensione piena di un personaggio problematico e oscuro come Basim. Soprattutto, ci porta ad immergerci in un mondo meraviglioso, storicamente curatissimo, visivamente esaltante, in cui si respira in ogni missione, anfratto, sfida, scontro, la logica che tanto colpì, a suo tempo, col primissimo Assassin’s Creed. Se siete fan della serie, non potete assolutamente trascurarlo; e se non siete fan, questa è più che mai l’occasione per diventarlo. In fondo, Assassin’s Creed non è neppure più un gioco, no? È un credo.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s return to the stealthy style that launched this series doesn’t do everything right, but everything it does feels like it was done with purpose. This means a shorter game with a smaller map, fewer collectibles, smaller scope in combat, and a limited selection of gear to play with – all of which I found refreshing relative to the arguably bloated scale of 100-hour games like Odyssey and Valhalla. It also means an overly simplistic plot with mostly forgettable characters, but what the story lacks in depth it makes up for with its straightforward quest progression and fast pacing. Though there's no big standout “wow” moment, Baghdad is a beautiful location in its own right, and the world’s detail is focused inward, making every alley and hovel feel well traveled and full of detail and history. I’d recommend Mirage to anyone who’s lapsed on Assassin’s Creed, as its back-to-basics approach is a successful first step in returning the feeling that the earlier industry-defining games gave me so long ago.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a triumphant return to the style of the original Assassin’s Creed games. It maintains some RPG elements such as upgrading equipment and learning abilities through skill points, but this is done on a smaller scale than the most recent predecessors. Mirage hits the sweet spot when it comes to game length, long enough to feel worthwhile but short enough where it never drags or feels bogged down by filler content. In a nutshell, it delivers the classic Assassin’s Creed experience with a few modernizations. Assassin’s Creed has been going through many changes recently as would any franchise that’s been around for over a decade, but Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the return to form that the series needs.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage promette quello che mantiene: un'esperienza di gioco contenuta ma densa, mai noiosa e ricca di atmosfera. La Baghdad qui proposta è una delle città più belle dell'intera saga, reinventata con grande rispetto e attenzione a suggestivi dettagli che tuttavia hanno una valenza nel sistema di gioco. Il vero valore aggiunto del titolo sta in questo saper valorizzare un aspetto fondante della saga, al di là di un gameplay vario il giusto ma a volte un po' legnoso (soprattutto nei combattimenti corpo a corpo) e una narrazione che, per quanto appassionante, non sempre usa i tempi giusti e appare un po' ingessata nelle cutscene. In sostanza si tratta di un titolo sicuramente meritevole d'attenzione: ottimo punto d'ingresso per i nuovi adepti e allo stesso tempo imperdibile per la vecchia guardia. Chi però è indeciso, soprattutto a fronte dell'offerta ricchissima in merito ai titoli action recentemente usciti o di prossima uscita, soppesi bene la sua scelta e cosa ritiene più importante in un videogioco.

Nell’esprimere un giudizio il più equilibrato possibile su Assassin’s Creed Mirage è impossibile non soffermarsi sul suo essere un capitolo di transizione verso l’avvio di una nuova fase, che di fatto ne ha determinato ambizioni ma anche pregi e difetti. Infallibile e letale quando indossa l’abito dell’assassino votato alla furtività e un po’ impacciato e prevedibile nei combattimenti a viso aperto, Basim è protagonista di un’avvenura talvolta in chiaroscuro che alterna momenti di gioco piuttosto riusciti ad altri che denotano invece una mancanza di spirito d'inventiva. Sullo sfondo si staglia comunque un worldbuilding di ottima fattura, come da tradizione dei giochi di Ubisoft, non sempre valorizzato tuttavia da un comparto tecnico all'altezza. Assassin’s Creed Mirage non può essere definito un ingannevole "miraggio" nel deserto, quanto piuttosto un tentativo di conciliare i trascorsi passati e recenti dal punto di vista delle meccaniche di gioco.

Assassin's Creed Mirage è un buon modo per fare contenta tutta quella frangia di fan delusa dalla deriva open world/RPG che la serie aveva preso nelle sue ultime tre incarnazioni. Nonostante quel retrogusto classico, l'avventura di Basim fatica tuttavia a brillare di luce propria come gli indimenticabili episodi originali con Altair ed Ezio.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage porte bien son nom et remplit sa mission. La volonté de retrouver les sensations du passé de la licence est concrétisée, sans aller plus loin que cette idée de départ. On retrouve avec bonheur une recette plus digeste et cohérente avec l’esprit de la saga dans une superbe ville de Bagdad. Les ingrédients comme l’assassinat, l’infiltration, la traque de cibles ou encore l’immersion historique se savourent à nouveau, sans pour autant échapper aux défauts endémiques de la série, en plus d’afficher ici des fausses notes sur les systèmes de parkour et de combat. Assassin’s Creed Mirage offre donc un plaisir certain, mais au goût particulier lorsque l’on sait que les nombreux projets colossaux autour de la licence arrivent, et que cette aventure avec Basim n’en reflète probablement pas la teneur.

Assassin's Creed Mirage è un appassionato omaggio alle origini della serie Ubisoft e chi sentiva la mancanza di quelle meccaniche, di quelle atmosfere e di quelle architetture non rimarrà certamente deluso dal gioco, che peraltro viene proposto a un prezzo davvero interessante. Purtroppo è evidente che qualcosa non ha funzionato nel delicato bilanciamento delle fasi stealth e dei combattimenti: Basim può contare su di un numero eccessivo di abilità e gadget che rendono la sfida progressivamente più semplice anziché aumentarla, e di conseguenza anche gli scontri corpo a corpo non sono lo spauracchio che speravamo. Del resto lo avevamo detto: Assassin's Creed, nel bene e nel male.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage rievoca con una certa efficacia i capitoli dell’era “pre ruolistica”, con un sistema di notorietà che spinge a ritornare nell’anonimato coi mezzi a disposizione di Basim. Tra la piacevole esplorazione di Bagdad - ben caratterizzata e dotata del giusto quantitativo di attività secondarie - e missioni principali interessanti, almeno per quanto concerne level design e metodi d’approccio, Ubisoft Bordeaux ha confezionato un’esperienza valida e divertente, ma non priva di problemi e oscillazioni qualitative. Gli intoppi legati perlopiù alle coreografie marziali degli scontri affiancano un comparto narrativo non incisivo come speravamo e fasi stealth impoverite da un’IA dei nemici non raffinata e da soluzioni offensive sin troppo efficaci. Ad ogni modo, se volete regalarvi un Assassin’s Creed più gestibile e visitare un setting affascinante e misterioso dovreste dare una possibilità a Mirage, che a prescindere da tutto ha dimostrato una cosa importante: le iterazioni più vicine all’impostazione ludica tradizionale dell’IP hanno ancora qualcosa da dire.

Assassin's Creed Mirage sets off in search of its roots, and it finds them — both for better and worse. Undeniably basic in its approach to stealth and combat, it feels oddly dated in terms of design, but it's also a refreshing reminder of the series' original strengths. Ultimately, it's a solid sandbox title, and it successfully scratches the hidden blade itch that was so clearly absent in Odyssey and Valhalla.

Avec son côté historique passionnant, le retour de tous les symboles de la confrérie et son ambition réduite, Mirage a tout le potentiel pour être un vrai bon Assassin's Creed. On apprécie grandement le retour au sources de ce nouvel opus qui s'impose comme une nouvelle référence en termes d'infiltration au sein de la franchise. On lui regrette toutefois l'expérience de combat et les visuels pas assez optimisés par rapport aux standard modernes. On salue tout de même les gros efforts du studio pour revenir à un contenu plus digeste, moins éparpillé et toujours aussi passionnant.

En adoptant l’ancienne formule, Mirage donne aux vieux fans une véritable madeleine de Proust. Néanmoins, les adeptes du trio Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla risquent de déchanter face à une proposition bien plus réduite. Que reste-t-il ? Un épisode ultra classique, où l’assassinat et la discrétion redeviennent le point central du gameplay, dans un monde bien plus petit, dont la durée de vie sera moins longue et dont la découverte de l’évolution de Basim sera le principal motif d’adhésion. Si certains prendront cet épisode comme un simple spin-off en attendant le prochain épisode « Red » et son Japon féodal, d’autre selon ravie de ce retour réussi - dans son genre.
