For all it does to add value to the existing package, smooth over existing bumps and enhance presentation, FANTASIAN’s PC and console release is held back slightly by some of the fundamentals of the Apple Arcade original. But at the end of it all, Neo Dimension absolutely feels like the definitive version of an already-excellent little RPG that looks fondly back on Hironobu Sakaguchi’s gameography without using nostalgia as a crutch to skimp on innovation.

Ultima grande impresa di Hironobu Sakaguchi, Fantasian: Neo Dimension ci ha rammentato le ragioni per cui abbiamo amato il papà di Final Fantasy e la sua concezione di JRPG, senza però eguagliare la grandezza dei suoi titoli più riusciti. Tanto le storiche sbavature registrate nella versione originale, come la scarsa caratterizzazione degli antagonisti, la verbosità dei dialoghi o l’incostante bilanciamento della difficoltà, quanto i problemi riscontrati nella riedizione, come i cali di frame rate e i lunghi tempi di caricamento che al momento affliggono la versione per Nintendo Switch, pesano non poco sulla valutazione finale del prodotto, che tuttavia rimane solido e godibile. Ne consigliamo il recupero ai veri estimatori del genere.

Fantasian Neo Dimension is Hironobu Sakaguchi and Mistwalker at their boldest and bravest, culminating in a JRPG love letter that both delights and frustrates. The stunning world and exploration are a true highlight, and the challenging and rewarding combat will enchant some, but it lacks some of the magic that the game is aiming for and the pacing is uneven. Normal difficulty makes things more accessible for the curious, but make no mistake, this is an RPG for those who want to lose themselves in the mechanics.

Delta Force isn’t the best extraction shooter, nor does it do big PvP battles the best. However, doing both of those modes reasonably well in one free-to-play package is pretty unique. The massive, vehicle-filled battles are respectable fun – especially in Attack and Defend – as long as you can get comfortable with the more realistic shooting mechanics and how they mix with fantastical powers. The Operations, meanwhile, make for one of the most formulaic and accessible extraction shooters I’ve played, though the great levels are wasted on too much direction toward the only worthwhile loot, and upgrading the Black Site is more of a chore than an aspiration. Still, it’s a good option for either, and deserves credit for doing a solid, if unspectacular and not especially imaginative job, of two very different first-person shooter styles.

Nightdive Studios propone un apprezzabile viaggio nostalgico con The Thing: Remastered, che pur mantenendo i limiti del gioco originale di 22 anni fa valorizza le sue peculiarità di gameplay e atmosfera. Nonostante il restyling grafico sia apprezzabile, il gioco soffre di un impatto horror meno incisivo rispetto al passato e di una seconda parte decisamente più debole della prima. The Thing resta comunque un gioco da riscoprire, soprattutto per chi ama il mix di tensione, horror mutante e paranoia che riflette fedelmente lo spirito del film di John Carpenter.

Lots of bonus content, and seeing Raziel was very exciting all over again, but sadly I found the frustrating parts of both games still just as frustrating.

Skydance’s Behemoth s’impose d’ores et déjà comme un incontournable de la VR, même si certains aspects sont toujours discutables. La première rencontre avec ces titans est un moment fort, appuyé par une immersion de haute volée et un rythme soutenu qui nous maintient casque sur la tête des heures durant. Il faut avoir le cœur bien accroché pour survivre à ce condensé d’action, mais pour les joueurs les plus habitués à la VR, Behemoth mérite clairement le coup d’œil avec ses deux versions réussies, que ce soit sur Quest ou PS VR 2.

Although I expected to play only as Lupin himself, the playful way in which Arsene Lupin: Once a Thief's narrative chronology is broken up between Lupin carrying out his heists and Ganimard trying to figure out how he does them is very fun. Some of the puzzles are fairly straightforward and overly forgiving, with unlimited tries and no repercussions when you do something wrong, but the more traditional investigative puzzling is rewarding to solve, and whenever I succeeded in linking evidence correctly, I felt as if I was donning a black cloak and top hat of my own in plotting my latest heist. The music is great, the isometric scenes fun to rotate and explore, and the supporting cast just begs to be fooled by Lupin. Since I’ve read some of the Leblanc books, I recognized some plot elements here and there, like how Lupin escapes his unavoidable arrest, but it’s certainly not necessary to know anything about the character going in. Just like his more famous British and Belgian contemporaries, Lupin is a character straight out of literary fiction who was long overdue a lead role, and I’m sure he will charm his way into the hearts of those who aren’t already familiar with his antics as well.
