In addition to the usual incremental graphics upgrade and respectable new story campaign, Madden NFL 20 meaningfully improves on a lot of the issues that plagued the previous iteration(s). The running game is noticeably smoother and X-Factor traits make superstar players actually feel like a force to be reckoned with on the field, and while there are still problems that linger with animations, it’s safe to say that EA Tiburon is making large strides in the right direction. That said, I’m running out of patience for the Franchise mode to receive some revitalizing updates – it’s still fun after all these years but Madden 20’s Franchise doesn’t feel substantially different from Madden 19’s.

Madden 20 does very little in this year’s game to impress, but it doesn’t do anything that truly disappoints. What it offers is a competent and refined football experience with a stellar presentation and plenty of modes to play.

Estamos quizá ante la entrega de los últimos años que menos novedades de peso aporta, especialmente en un modo franquicia que parece estar abandonado de la mano de EA. El cambio más importante a nuestro juicio es el añadido de las habilidades específicas para las superestrellas con X Factor. El miedo inicial a jugadores con superpoderes se disipa pronto al comprobar que si bien estas estrellas tienen ventaja sobre los demás jugadores, es algo que podemos ver también en un partido real. Se nota también el empeño de los desarrolladores por contentar a todo tipo de jugadores, algo que no es nada fácil. Es evidente que Madden 20 es un juego dirigido a los amantes del fútbol americano, aunque si estás pensando en iniciarte en este deporte, aunque sea de manera virtual, puedes perder el miedo a coger el mando y aprender a base de golpes qué es un touchdown, cuanto miden diez yardas y lo importante que es la línea de scrimmage. Madden 20 hace todo lo posible para que todos nos sintamos agusto.

Paradoxalement, Madden NFL 20 se montre assez sobre malgré l'aspect showtime de la NFL parfaitement retranscrit. Car même si les X Factors et capacités spéciales de certains joueurs donnent un petit souffle à la licence, peu de nouveautés majeures sont à noter. Au final, Madden se repose sur la densité de ses modes de jeu MUT et Franchise pour proposer une expérience immersive et toujours aussi solide techniquement. On regrettera le mode histoire de cette saison, en deçà du Longshot proposé auparavant, pour se concentrer sur les possibilités infinies du Playbook et la centième saison du Foot US.

Ultimately, I feel that the yearly model for releases is perhaps starting to become outdated. Of course, the moment to moment gameplay is still as solid as ever, and fans will no doubt find enjoyment here. But, in the age of live service games, something like Madden seems a natural fit. I’m not saying what’s here is bad, as such, it just feels like the value proposition is getting lower each time.
