NHL 17 offers such variety that it’s easy to recommend to many players. The continued focus on accessibility and on-ice training fits the series well, and added depth to the EASHL keeps long-time fans like me coming back. The franchise mode finally gives the GM/owner mode a reason to be played, and even Draft Champions, while a bit simplistic, provides a motivation to interact with the Ultimate Team ecosystem. Most importantly, the hockey presented on the ice is dynamic and fluid, and it serves up an excellent version of the fastest game around.

Natürlich ist NHL 17 das beste NHL, das es je gab! Immerhin baut es auf den Stärken eines verdammt guten Vorgängers auf. Der entschleunigte Spielverlauf erlaubt besonders in der Offensive ein besseres Taktieren, das umfangreiche Feedback der Profi-Karriere spornt maßgeblich zum Verbessern der eigenen Fähigkeiten an, die präzisen Rückmeldungen der dynamischen Hilfe erleichtern sowohl den Erst- als auch den Wiedereinstieg und endlich funktioniert auch das Onlinespiel weitgehend störungsfrei. Und trotzdem steht die Serie seltsam auf der Stelle. Die starren Einspieler des Kommentaren-Trios wirken etwa geradezu ermüdend, während die Karrieren als Profi und Club-Manager fast ausschließlich von Menüs und Textfenstern umrahmt werden. Selbst den World Cup of Hockey inszeniert EA nicht wie eine große Meisterschaft, sondern wie ein schnelles Turnier unter Kumpels. Natürlich handelt es sich dabei lediglich um das Drumherum; die Simulation im Kern ist wichtiger. Ein frischer Anstrich würde der Serie allerdings verdammt gut tun. Und immerhin wird das Spielen durch den kurzweiligen Sammelkarten-Modus Draft Champions ja aufgelockert, während sich Manager im Franchise-Modus diesmal um die Belange des gesamten Clubs kümmern. Unterm Strich ist NHL 17 deshalb erneut ein richtig gutes Spiel – das mit mehr Elan allerdings ein sehr gutes hätte sein müssen.

Si des nouveautés sont présentes, l'évolution de ce NHL 17 est tout de même assez timide par rapport à l'édition de l'an passé. On regrette vraiment que la partie visuelle n'ait pas profité du moteur Frostbite comme c'est le cas pour FIFA. À l'écran, les différences paraissent imperceptibles et le gameplay reprend, dans les grandes lignes, les bases de son aîné. Malgré cela, le mode Franchise sait se montrer addictif et les matchs, dans leur globalité, restent très agréables. Par conséquent, si NHL 17 se montre comme l'un des meilleurs épisodes de la série, il aurait mérité un boost plus marqué. EA devrait peut-être réfléchir à faire une pause afin de laisser aux développeurs le temps de frapper un grand coup.

EA Sports has three different sports titles under their belt. Each one is built on the same engine and feel quite similar. Underneath that veil of uniformity, however, there is something that makes all of their games distinct and unique. In NHL 17 it’s everything that surrounds the actual gameplay of it. From the presentation to the deep franchise mode, NHL 17 has everything away from the on-ice action nailed down to a T. If the experience of playing the game fell into the same pristine category instead of being too overbearing for its own good, this would be a near-perfect game of hockey.

NHL 17 est un bon jeu de sport, qui fonctionne grâce à son gameplay aux petits oignons. Si le contenu est au rendez-vous on regrette malheureusement le décalage entre la licence et celle de la fameuse simulation de football américain également édité par EA Sports. Il est vraiment dommage que EA Canada ait également délaissé sa mise en scène, car au final on ne revient pas tant que ça faire une partie de temps en temps.
